'Is it a mistake?': Mysterious Sengkang door sparks debate
A mysterious door spotted on the ground floor of a Sengkang HDB flat that serves no apparent purpose has sparked heated debate among netizens.
A recent Facebook post noted the "magical door" located on the ground floor of Block 465A Fernvale Road. With no real building structure around it, the door does not appear to serve any practical purpose.
"Does anyone know the purpose of this door?" asked the poster.
"Could it be that the contractor ordered too many doors and was too lazy to bring them back, so he just installed it randomly?"
'Doraemon's Anywhere Door'
Sengkang residents online were equally curious. "Is it a decoration? Or is it a mistake?"
The Facebook post has sparked heated discussion, with some joking that it might be "Doraemon's Anywhere Door" - a reference to the popular anime character who uses a magical door to move instantly between locations - while others speculated that it was a fire door.
More than one door
A Shin Min Daily News reporter who visited Block 465A discovered similar doors on the ground floors of the nearby Block 465B, 466A and 466B.
Most of the "magical doors" are located next to staircases, with "staircase" marked on the top, but with no connections around them, rendering them redundant.
"This door is very strange. I wonder if it will be converted into a storage room later," said a resident named Alex, who moved to the area recently. He noted that the vicinity has many new HDB blocks and wondered if the door has another purpose.
Other residents speculated that the gate might have been built by mistake during construction, or that the building design might have been altered at the last minute, resulting in an erroneus door.
Mr Tay is a 36-year-old resident who works as an accountant. "This door has no practical significance. It may be a design or construction error. But the door has already been built, and it will cost money to redo it," he said.
Mr Zhu, 21, speculated that construction may have been affected by the pandemic: "Perhaps the authorities set the design blueprint very early, and later made changes, leaving these doors.
"Anyway, it does not affect our lives, so it is okay to leave them there."
