'I tried 5 Skims-style shaping bodysuits and this £20 one was surprisingly the best'

With it being peak occasionwear season, Mirror's shopping writer Grace has ranked the best tried-and-tested Skims-like shaping bodysuits around, with one affordable buy coming out on top Kim Kardashian's brand Skims has quickly become a cult favourite for so many thanks to its comfy, high-quality, body-positive, and even sometimes controversial (we're looking at you, Skims face wrap) shapewear and lingerie. However, with price tags of around £74 for a shaping bodysuit and sometimes into the £100s for a limited-edition collab, its shapewear is definitely an investment that not everyone has. And with it being prime occasionwear season, when you may be looking for that extra support, I'm here to help you out with tried-and-tested Skims-like shaping bodysuits to see what ranks best for compression, fit, price, and overall comfort. From Boux Avenue to H&M and even Amazon, I've rounded up my list of five of the best, depending on what qualities you are looking for, with one coming out on top. Best overall Dorina brushed micro bodysuit in brown, £20 Pros: Thong back so no visible panty line, doesn't look like shapewear so can be worn on its own; flattering square neckline; thick, quality material Cons: Thick material adds a slightly bulky layer Out of the five I tried, this brushed jersey one from Dorina was my winner. I was so surprised to feel the thick, high-quality material when I got it out of the packet, considering the affordable £20 price tag. I love that this had a thong back so there's no risk of the dreaded VPL, and the button-fastening in the crotch makes this super easy to remove. I also love the on-trend chocolate brown colour and flattering square neckline, which make this suitable for wearing out on its own. I'm usually not a fan of the trend of wearing shapewear as actual clothing, but you could 100% get away with it with this Dorina one. Not to mention, the most important aspect is that it's super supportive, smooth, and sculpting, so it will make you feel your best. My only criticism is that due to the thick brushed jersey material, if you're wearing something skin-tight, this may add a bulky-feeling layer underneath. Best for shaping and tummy control H&M Firm shape Sculpting Thong body, currently £17 Pros: Sculpts and compresses; flattering on the bust; different skin tones available Compared to the Dorina one, this sculpting thong body from H&M is more of an underwear bodysuit. It is available in five different skin tones and definitely has the most compressive effect on the stomach. If you're trying to sculpt your body for a summer wedding or event, this is one of the best choices. The sculpting material has fantastic tummy control, and if you've got smaller boobs, this helps give them a subtle lift and gorgeous shape. However, if you've got a larger chest, you may struggle getting the support you need as there is no padding or lining around the cups. Again, bonus points are given for the thong back and adjustable shoulder straps. Best chest support Dorina Mix & Match Sublime Sculpt medium control light padded thong bodysuit in black, £28 Pros: Adjustable straps; padded cups with good support for small to medium boobs; removable straps for under strapless/one-shoulder pieces Cons: Sizing only goes up to an E cup If you're looking for more support or padding around the chest area, the Sulbime Sculpt bodysuit from Dorina is your best bet. Similar to SKIMS' popular Core Sculpt Underwire Bodysuit, £149, the moulded cups and sculpted fit is so flattering. Additionally, the removable and adjustable straps make this suitable for underneath strapless and one-shoulder dresses or tops. Unfortunately, this bodysuit only goes up to a cup size D on ASOS and an E on the Dorina website, which can be quite restrictive if you've got a chest any larger. Best for affordability ZENYA Women Shapewear Bodysuit, currently £10.19 Pros: Adjustable straps; compresses the stomach well; affordable Cons: Not seamless so can show through clothing; crotch is long At under £12, this is by far the most affordable option and a great option if you want some extra shaping without breaking the bank. Made from a stretchy, lightweight nylon and spandex blend, this bodysuit is completely breathable, making it a great underlayer for summertime. It also features a tummy control body shaper without uncomfortable wires, so it's great for sculpting and staying comfy. The main issue I found with this one, however, is that it's not seamless and provides a lot of coverage on your bum, which results in a visible panty line when worn under certain tight pieces of clothing. It also doesn't have a high leg cut like the others, so it doesn't create as much of a flattering silhouette. Best for comfort Boux Avenue Smoothing Built In Support Bodysuit, £35 Pros: Thong back so no visible panty line; different skin tones available; supportive on the bust Cons: Needs smaller sizes as it doesn't sculpt/compress the stomach as well as it could The Smoothing Built In Support Bodysuit from Boux Avenue ranked highest for me in terms of comfort. With all the others, I think you would reach the end of the day feeling a sigh of relief to finally be out of your shaping bodysuit. However, this is one you could easily wear for the entire day without even having a thought that you're wearing shapewear. As with H&M's one, there is a variety of skin tones to choose from, and the adjustable straps, combined with the seamless stretch-knit material, make this great for supporting your chest. If there were smaller sizes available and/or slightly better compression on the stomach area, this would rank as my number one. The smallest size is a small cup size A-D. I'm a pretty standard size 10 and find this ever-so-slightly baggy at the waist, meaning if you were any smaller, it may border on being too big. However, this is dependent on your body shape.

Hate underwires? Feel intense relief when you take your bra off? You could be making the same mistake as 85% of women, according to a lingerie expert

Wearing the wrong size bra is incredibly common; in fact, some estimates say up to 85% of women in the UK aren't wearing the right size. This is partly because many women think bra fitting is a one-and-done experience. You get your bra professionally fitted in your late teens, for example, and then stick with it for years. However, women's bodies change and fluctuate - not just over years but even within the same month, thanks to the menstruation cycle. That's why it's best to get measured more regularly, if possible. If you're hesitant to commit to regular fittings, it's at least worth arming yourself with the knowledge of what an ill-fitting bra looks and feels like. Below, Alexandra Cracknell, Senior Designer at lingerie brand Dorina, shares her expertise on the signs you are wearing the wrong size bra. You avoid underwire at all costs Underwire isn't supposed to hurt you and if it does, that is a sign you are wearing the wrong size or style for your body type. A well-fitting underwire bra should feel effortless and like nothing at all on the body. If an underwire bra is hurting, it is likely the wire is sitting on the breast tissue rather than the body. Not many women know where breast tissue starts, so when you press your finger on the wire of the bra, if you are not feeling your ribs, you are feeling your breast tissue. This breast tissue needs to be fully in the cup for the correct fit. You feel intense relief when you take it off Feeling really intense relief at the end of the day when you take your bra off should not be a normal feeling; a well-fitting bra shouldn't feel like a cage you're escaping from. The underband of the bra should sit firmly on the body if it is fitting correctly. It should not be too tight or too loose. The band should be parallel to the floor all the way around the body. If you sigh with relief at the end of the day when you take your bra off this is a clear sign to go and get measured! You have neck pain or headaches An ill-fitting bra, particularly one with a loose band around the torso, can cause neck and upper back strain, which can lead to tension headaches. To negate this, find a bra with a better-fitting band, as it distributes weight more evenly and relieves pressure on your neck and shoulder muscles. Wide, adjustable straps can help this as it reduces straining on the shoulder. A clear way to spot your bra is too loose on your underband is to check in a mirror how it is sitting. If it is riding up your back with the back clasp sitting higher compared to the front of your bra then you're in the wrong size. You constantly feel tired Yes, that is right - your bra can be making you feel tired. If you are physically exhausted by the middle of the day and it feels like your upper body is dragging, your bra might be the reason. A supportive, well-fitting bra should make you feel lifted, not weighed down. You have red marks or dents on the skin Dents in the skin from bra straps are common, but red marks under your breasts or on your ribcage can mean the underwire or band is too tight or not sitting right on your body. Breasts should be fully encased in the cup and the wire resting on the ribs rather than breast tissue. The correct bra fit should not be irritating and causing skin indentations. Your clothes aren't fitting right If your top isn't fitting right, sitting oddly with buttons gapping or you have to keep adjusting your neckline, it might be your bra underneath. A correctly sized bra should give a smooth fit and flattering shape under your clothes. You are always pushing your bra down If you feel like you constantly have to readjust your bra, because it is riding up or shifting, it is because your bra doesn't fit right. Your bra should stay put and should feel secure even without adjusting throughout the day. When a woman comes in for a fitting, typically she is wearing a band that is too big and a cup size that is too small. If the underband is lifting and riding up her back, the bra is the wrong size and the breasts are not supported as they should be. Bras also have a shelf life - if your bra used to fit perfectly and you haven't changed shape, however you find yourself having to tighten the straps or it no longer supports you as it used to, this is a clear sign to invest in a new bra. The fibres in the elastics break down with washing and over time it doesn't feel as supportive.

Lingerie brand Dorina relaunches online to boost D2C's share of sales

Now-London-based legacy lingerie brand Dorina has revamped its direct-to-consumer (D2C) website with the aim of growing digital sales to 30% by 2027. A relaunch that 'signals a dynamic new chapter for Dorina', the key focus will be on its assortment strategy, with the historically wholesale brand releasing dedicated capsule collections on the new site. The relaunch also coincides with the debut of the brand's bridal range, a nine-piece collection available on the site and via selected partners. Additional exclusive collections are planned for release throughout the year, it added. Since the autumn Dorina said it has been strategically expanding its footprint across Europe, including that full redesign of its e-commerce platform and the relocation of its headquarters from Hong Kong to London. 'This move from Asia to London positions the brand closer to its core markets, enabling enhanced customer service and a more responsive, market-driven approach', it explained. Under CEO Alexis Le Moine, the brand is now being driven by a 'strong new leadership team' whose previous experience includes managerial positions at LVMH, Amazon and industry pureplayers such as Bluebella and Agent Provocateur. Le Moine said: 'Re-launching our new direct-to-consumer website marks a major step in the growth [our] strategy. It is an exciting move for the brand which allows us to connect more directly with the Dorina community, learn faster on purchasing habits and evolve with our customers every step of the way.'
