Organisational success rooted in unity, says Sri Aman MP
Doris (fourth left) officiates the event as (from left) Susan, Angelyn, Anyi, Alice (second right) and others look on. SIBU (May 25): The spirit of unity within an organisation is the key to success and progress, said Sri Aman MP Dato Sri Doris Sophia Brodie. According to her, an organisation's strength is not solely in its membership size, but in its ability to unite toward achieving common goals. 'If we are busy fighting among ourselves, we will lose focus on the original purpose of establishing the organisation, and the development we want to achieve will be stunted,' she said when officiating at the pre-Gawai Dayak celebration here last night. Doris commended the collaborative efforts of four organisations, namely the Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) Sibu, Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS) Sibu, Orang Ulu National Union (OUNA) Sibu and Dayak Bidayuh National Union (DBNA) Sibu for working together to make the event a success. She noted the collaboration among various Dayak entities reflects the spirit of togetherness that other organisations should emulate. 'I am very interested in the theme of tonight's event, 'berserakup kitai mansang, begempung kitai senang, segulai sejalai'. However, I would like to add another one, which is 'nuju pemansang' because unity drives development,' she said. Meanwhile, Doris reminded attendees that Gawai Dayak is not just a celebration but a symbol of gratitude for the hard work carried out throughout the year, especially by paddy farmers. 'Gawai Dayak teaches us to appreciate the hard work and the blessings of harvest. This is also in line with the value of unity. When we work together, we reap success together,' she said. She added the pre-Gawai Dayak celebration serves as an important platform for strengthening community relationships and demonstrating the true strength that unity brings. At the event, she announced an allocation of RM15,000 for SIDS Sibu. Additionally, Ngemah assemblyman Anyi Jana and Bawang Assan assemblyman Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh also allocated RM5,000 and RM10,000, respectively. Among those present were political secretaries to Sarawak Premier Susan Clement and William Anut, SIDS president Dato Alice Jawan, SIDS Sibu chairperson Angelyn Uchi Maseng, Temenggong Stanley Geramong and Cr Sean Wong. MP: Layer poultry farming to be introduced to rural folks
KUCHING (April 30): An upcoming knowledge-sharing programme on the potential of rural cooperatives' involvement in layer poultry farming may provide valuable insights to the rural communities, particularly in relation to food security and economic opportunities. In pointing this out, Sri Aman MP Datuk Seri Doris Sophia Brodie described the 'Program Bicara Ilmu Potensi Penglibatan Koperasi Luar Bandar Dalam Projek Ternakan Ayam Penelur' this May 9 as being crucial in introducing business opportunities through cooperatives to the rural communities, particularly those in this parliamentary constituency. 'Food security is a key priority at this time. Therefore, the knowledge to be shared by the trainers will be incredibly beneficial to those living in rural areas. 'Furthermore, by engaging in egg-laying poultry farming, we not only gain a source of meat, but can also generate income through sales of eggs in the market,' she said when met after receiving a courtesy call from Koperasi Kampung Tuba Simunjan Berhad (KKTSB) at her office in Tabuan Jaya here on Monday. Doris said this initiative should be able to contribute to the economic growth of the local communities, specifically the cooperative members. The programme is organised by the Cooperative Institute of Malaysia (IKMA) Sarawak branch in collaboration with KKTSB, and will take place at Rumah Ngumbang Santok in Kampung Tuba. It is learnt that this is the third time KKTSB is organising a skills-training session for members and villagers as part of a community project involving cooperation with Universiti Teknologi Mara (UTM) and various non-governmental organisations (NGOs). According to Doris, Kampung Tuba is one of the rural areas under her constituency, with KKTSB being the only active cooperative in Sri Aman, and one of the most successful ones in Sarawak's rural areas. 'As a show of support, I will attend the programme's launch and encourage local residents not to miss out on this opportunity to gain knowledge that can lead to an improved standard of living.' Among those present were KKTSB chairman Dr Tamoi Janggu and Rumah Ngumbang Santok tuai rumah (longhouse chieftain) Gura Empulu.

First female PRS president? Doris says decision lies with party divisions
Doris speaks to reporters after the PRS Supreme Council meeting today. KUCHING (April 25): The possibility of Sri Aman MP Dato Sri Doris Sophia Brodie becoming the first female president of Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) has gained momentum, with online polls indicating strong grassroots support for her. When asked about the growing speculation, Doris, who also heads the PRS Women's wing, said she was humbled but insisted that nominations must come from the grassroots. 'It's not about whether I'm given a chance or not. In a political party, nominations must come from the grassroots. Of course, for the sake of my pride and ego, it's nice that people acknowledge me. 'But ultimately, it is the divisions who decide,' she told reporters when met after the PRS Supreme Council meeting at the party headquarters here today. A veteran of 39 years in politics, Doris reaffirmed her commitment to serving rural communities. 'Whether I'm up there or down here, I've been here since the party's formation. Politics, to me, is not a career—it's a responsibility. 'Positions come and go, but what matters is your commitment to your cause,' she said. PRS president Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum, meanwhile, said the party has yet to formally discuss any potential successor. 'Yes, why not? However, when it comes to the popularity of individuals within the party, or who is seen as the most suitable to become president—that question was never discussed,' he told reporters after chairing the Supreme Council meeting. 'If you were to ask me personally, I would choose Datuk Seri Doris as well. But others may not share the same view, and Datuk Seri Doris herself might not even be interested,' he added. Salang stressed that PRS's nomination process is driven by its divisions, and any leadership contest—including for the presidency—will depend on who they choose to nominate ahead of the party's Triennial Delegates Conference (TDC) in the third week of October. With all positions up for grabs at the upcoming TDC, it remains to be seen whether Doris will officially enter the race, or continue to be a trending name on social media.
