Hear the magic: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban in concert

There's something unreasonably moving about hearing the opening notes of 'Hedwig's Theme' played by a full orchestra. The air changes. It's not just nostalgia – though there's plenty of that – but a kind of communal spell. On November 8 and 9 at Prince Mahidol Hall, the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra will conjure that very magic with Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban in Concert, the third instalment of the live film concert series that pairs Hollywood fantasy with old-school musical precision. This is not the first time Alcopop and Five Four Live have dabbled in sorcery. Their past ventures into the wizarding world saw robes, round glasses and the occasional stuffed owl sprinkled across concert halls. But Azkaban feels different. Tonally darker, more mature, less fixated on chocolate frogs. Sirius Black escapes. Dementors float ominously over the Hogwarts Express. A time-turner whirls. It's the moment the Potterverse grows up. Conductor Timothy Henty returns to lead the orchestra through John Williams' shape-shifting score – arguably one of the franchise's most playful and eerie. Expect fluttering woodwinds during Buckbeak's flight and those jagged, breathless strings that accompany Harry's late-night wanderings through the castle. All of it unfolds beneath a towering 40-foot screen, where Alfonso Cuarón's fog-drenched cinematography plays out in high definition. But what makes these events special – over the sheer technical coordination required to sync bow to broomstick – is the audience itself. People dress up. They mouth the lines. Some bring children; others bring their inner child. There's a collective hush when the choir hums that ghostly 'Double Trouble'. So yes, you've seen the film. Probably more than once. But you haven't 'felt' it like this. Not with a hundred musicians casting the spell live, not in a space where the magic isn't just on screen – it's in the air. Here's the seating plan

Full story POLOKWANE – Gr 9 learners from Stanford Lake College recently spent seven days travelling 105km hiking and paddling in an expedition called, In the Footsteps of Legends. The expedition started in the village Sekororo with a distance of 10km and an 840m climb. That evening, they camped at Christmas Plateau. The rest of the week followed with different distances, uphills and downhills. The group had the opportunity to experience a refreshing mountain stream bath. On the third day, the group set up camp in Mankele Village next to the Olifants River. Some other memorable moments include a sightseeing of a section of the road that Louis Trichardt built in 1838. On the last day, the learners had to paddle to Thsabaleshoba village facing rapids such as Rent-o-kill, Double Trouble, and Rollercoaster. Deegan Davis, one of the participants, says the expedition was phenomenal in every way. 'From the amazing views to the nights when we could see the city lights, everything was spectacular. My favourite moment was one morning when I woke up and the sun was peeking through the mountains to create the ultimate best view.' Juliet Leher also participated. 'Kayaking was not easy, but it was worth it, and while you would fall in the water every once in a while, you would always come out stronger than you were before. Plus, hot chocolate always tastes best after a long hike.' At Caxton, we employ humans to generate daily fresh news, not AI intervention. Happy reading!

Hole-y Delight! Mad Over Donuts Lands in Hyderabad

There's something about doughnuts that feels like childhood — sugary, soft and unapologetically indulgent. Now, that comforting bite of nostalgia has officially landed in Hyderabad with Mad Over Donuts (MOD) finally setting up their flagship store in the city. For years, people with a sweet tooth have waited, and now, the wait has a sprinkle-filled sweet reward. The doughnuts at MOD are soft, delicious, and a must-try, with flavours like Double Trouble, Kit Kat, and Brownie. With the new experiential donut setup, you can now customise your doughnut just the way you like it. The beverages served complement the doughnuts perfectly, making it an ideal combination. 'I think it was always on the cards for us to come in, and eventually we realised that Hyderabad is a market we just had to enter. As a brand, we've only expanded to six cities so far, but Hyderabad is such a receptive bakery and biryani go hand in hand. It felt like the right time to open our own store here,' says Tarak Bhattacharya, executive director and CEO of MOD. This isn't just another dessert outlet. MOD's Hyderabad store is one of its biggest flagships. The CEO expresses, 'What makes it special is the experiential doughnut activity. Kids, adults, and anyone can come and try their hands at doughnut-making. It's all about experiencing your own doughnut journey.' With the rising tide of health-conscious consumers, MOD is also preparing to evolve its menu. 'We're already in the process of R&D for our vegan and sugar-free doughnuts. I always say that when you indulge, you don't count calories. However, there is a segment that asks for healthier options, and we're working on that too,' reveals Tarak.
