And coming in top place for coveted B&B category was the Auld Kirk in Ballater, Aberdeenshire. Built in the 1860s, the guest house - run by husband and wife team Kevin and Helen Smith - is an example of an early Victorian Scottish Free Church in the heart of Royal Deeside, within the Cairngorms National Park. It has seven en-suite bedrooms, some with the old church's sloping roofs and round windows. And it's the ideal base to visit the attractions of Royal Deeside, Balmoral Castle and the many gorgeous walks and climbs in the area. Kevin and his team were overjoyed to take the title. He said: "We are absolutely delighted to win this prestigious award in the face of such strong competition, not just from our fellow finalists, but from all of the wonderful B&Bs in Scotland who provide an outstanding guest experience every single day. "To receive such a renowned industry award, voted for by guests and validated by a a judging panel is an acknowledgement of the hard work that the team puts in every single that we must be doing something right." Kevin reckons it's the personal touch that keeps guests coming back. He added: "We take the time to get to know all of our guests, where they're from, what brings them to the area and how we can help them get the very best out of their time not only at The Auld Kirk, but the wider Royal Deeside area. Hidden gem Scots caravan park with luxury hot tubs that's just five steps from the beach "We treat each guest as a friend or family member, which we hope will want them to return time and time again." The B&B website shows there's a comfy guest lounge in the former side chapel and they offer packed lunches for residents planning a day in the depths of GlenTannar or a hike up Lochnagar. But the best thing, in Kevin's opinion, are the 'little touches'. He added: "We have lots of lovely little touches - Royal Lochnagar Whisky in the rooms, fresh baked scones every morning. "But ostensibly, we are a small business with a team of for, me and Helen, who are the owners, and Lisa and Linda, our wonderful housekeepers. This ensures the service that we provide to everyone of our guests is a personal one." Warren Paul, who runs the awards, says the calibre of the finalists was incredible. Harvey Weinstein Accuser Recounts Horror of Alleged Rape — and Her Alarming Discovery in Trash Can
Harvey Weinstein's retrial began on Wednesday, April 23, after his 2020 conviction in New York State was overturned last year Jessica Mann testified this week that Weinstein raped her in a New York City hotel in 2013 Weinstein has pleaded not guilty to all the charges, but he has been convicted for sex crimes in CaliforniaOne of Harvey Weinstein's accusers recounted being forced to have sex with the disgraced movie mogul in a New York City hotel more than a decade ago. Jessica Mann, 39, described to a New York City jury this week that the alleged incident occurred at the Doubletree Hotel in Midtown on March 18, 2013, after she reluctantly went to a hotel room with Weinstein. 'I didn't want to go into a room with him,' Mann testified Monday, May 19, per The Hollywood Reporter. The former actress claimed she tried to leave the room but he grabbed her arms and demanded she take her clothes off. 'This is about the moment where I gave up,' she said according to THR. After the alleged assault, she testified she discovered an erection-inducing syringe in the bathroom trash, the Associated Press reported. Mann is one of three women who have testified against Weinstein in his sex crimes retrial in which the former executive is accused of raping her and performing unwanted sexual acts on former TV production assistant Miriam Haley and Kaja told the jury she met Weinstein at a party around 2013 in Los Angeles when she was 27, per the AP. She said she later started a consensual relationship with Weinstein after he performed oral sex on her in a hotel room. 'I just decided to have a relationship with him. I'm sorry if that's a bad decision. I just did. I also just wanted to buy time because I really didn't know how to handle it,' she said, per THR. 'I just thought it would take the pain away.' She referred to Weinstein as a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde character. 'The word 'No' specifically was like a trigger to him,' she testified, per THR. Weinstein has denied all allegations of sexual misconduct. In February 2020, Weinstein was convicted of first-degree criminal sexual act and third-degree rape during a landmark #MeToo case. He was sentenced to 23 years in prison. However, on April 25, 2024, the New York Court of Appeals overturned his conviction finding that the trial judge erroneously allowed three women whose allegations were not a part of the criminal case against Weinstein to testify about Weinstein's 'prior bad acts.' In 2022, Weinstein was convicted of rape and sexual assault in California, a conviction that still stands. NPR reported that Weinstein has recently received treatment for bone marrow cancer. PEOPLE reported that he had emergency heart surgery at Bellevue Hospital in New York City. ‘Dead penis': Horror new Harvey Weinstein claims heard during retrial
An actress who accused Harvey Weinstein of raping her in a New York City hotel took to the witness stand on Monday where she revealed a shocking discovery she made in the aftermath of the alleged attack. Jessica Mann cried on the witness stand as she recalled the horror details of the night in question. She claimed that Weinstein forced her to have sex with him at the Doubletree Hotel in New York on March 18, 2013. After the alleged rape had taken place, Mann recalled finding a drug needle supposedly used by Weinstein in the trash can of the hotel room with a label that said 'Necro-something' on it. When she later Google searched in a bid to discover what the drug was, she was shocked to find its true meaning. 'I found on Google that it basically meant 'dead penis,' and you inject it and it can only be used a certain amount of times back-to-back over a certain time,' she told the jury. 'I was freaked out. Did I get exposed to something?' Mann recalled asking herself. 'It was scary.' She went on to share that she had scared into silence about the encounter because of Weinstein's connections to powerful global figures. 'I remember imagining if I ever said anything he would call his friend and the Secret Service would come get me,' she said. 'I don't know, I had all these ideas.' 'There were times … I wouldn't want to do something and I felt like I was just being used for sex,' she testified. 'The word 'no' was a trigger for him. This other personality – I called it 'The Monster side' – would come out.' It's not the first time Mann has testified against Weinstein, who was sat in the courtroom wearing a dark grey suit. In 2020, the former actress took to the stand where she alleged that the disgraced movie producer's penis was 'so deformed' that she felt sorry for him. Weinstein was eventually found guilty of third-degree rape, but was acquitted of rape in the first-degree. But in April last year, New York's highest court overturned Weinstein's conviction on sex crime charges in a shock reversal in one of the defining cases of the #MeToo movement. The Court of Appeals found the trial judge erred in admitting the testimony of additional women who were allegedly abused by Weinstein but who were not named in the charges brought against him, and ordered a new trial. Last July, prosecutors in New York also announced that authorities were investigating 'additional violent sexual assaults' allegedly carried out by Weinstein that were not subject to a statute of limitations. The retrial continues.

Weinstein accuser tearfully recalls NYC hotel room rape — and the disgusting discovery she made after alleged attack: ‘It basically meant ‘dead penis''
A former actress who accused Harvey Weinstein of raping her in a New York City hotel cried on the witness stand Monday as she recalled the alleged decade-old attack — and the disgusting discovery she found in the trash afterward. Jessica Mann, 38, returned to Manhattan Supreme Court, five years after she delivered graphic testimony at the disgraced Hollywood producer's first sex crimes trial. The ex-actress' answers at the ongoing retrial were broken by sobs as she detailed Weinstein forcing her to have sex at the Doubletree Hotel in Midtown on March 18, 2013. After the alleged rape, Mann said she she found an erection-inducing drug needle apparently used by Weinstein in the garbage can with a puzzling label — 'necro-something' — that she later Googled, yielding a horrific answer. 'I found on Google that it basically meant 'dead penis,' and you inject it and it can only be used a certain amount of times back-to-back over a certain time,' she told the jury. 'I was freaked out. Did I get exposed to something?' Mann remembered asking herself. 'It was scary.' Mann testified she later continued a consensual relationship with Weinstein — whom she referred to as 'Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde because sometimes he validated me so much.' 'Everyone said going to Hollywood was the devil's playground,' she testified. 'He told me I was beautiful and encouraged me and that meant a lot to me.' But at other times, the powerful producer showed his dark side, Mann said. 'There were times… I wouldn't want to do something and I felt like I was just being used for sex,' she testified. 'The word 'no' was a trigger for him. This other personality – I called it 'The Monster side' – would come out.' Weinstein, 73, wearing a filthy charcoal suit, sat in a wheelchair as Mann haltingly told Assistant District Attorney Matthew Colangelo that she feared no one would believe her. She said she was anxious about Weinstein's relationship with powerful people, such as former President Bill Clinton. 'I remember imagining if I ever said anything he would call his friend and the Secret Service would come get me,' she said. 'I don't know, I had all these ideas.' Mann's testimony largely rehashed her last stint on the witness stand in 2020, when she recounted that Weinstein's genitalia were so 'deformed' she pitied him. Jurors eventually found Weinstein guilty of third-degree rape for an attack on Mann, but found him not guilty of first-degree rape. Weinstein's conviction was overturned last year, leading to the retrial. Former teen model Kaja Sokola and former TV production assistant Miriam 'Mimi' Haley have both also testified in the trial that Weinstein raped them. He has pleaded not guilty and faces up to 25 years behind bars if convicted.
