‘I've made a decision': Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity teases run for governor
FORT INDIANTOWN GAP, Pa. (WHTM) – At an emotional Purple Heart ceremony Thursday, Pennsylvania Treasury Secretary Stacy Garrity (R) was asked about her potential plans to turn Pennsylvania red next November. 'I've made a decision and there will be an announcement very soon,' Garrity said at Fort Indiantown Gap on whether she will run for governor in 2026. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. Subscribe Now Garrity would not say what that decision was, but many Pennsylvania Republicans see her as a promising candidate. The exception is Republican State Senator Doug Mastriano, who is weighing another run for governor after losing to Gov. Josh Shapiro in 2022. 'Unless her campaign comes at me, I'm not going to say anything ill of her,' Mastriano said last week. 'I'm proud to say my wife and I helped her win in 2020. She had no traction early on.' Garrity was asked about Mastriano's comment Thursday. 'They were incredibly helpful and I will be forever grateful to Sen Mastriano and Rebbie,' Garrity said. Doug Mastriano teases run for Pennsylvania Governor in new social media posts At least one independent poll has shown Mastriano edging out Garrity, who has been elected twice statewide for Treasurer, in a potential 2026 primary. 'Well, I have to tell you [that] I go to all 67 counties every single year,' Garrity said. 'I meet with people in all four corners of the state, and I think there's a lot of enthusiasm for a potential Garrity run.' However, many Republicans know Mastriano has a passionate base that will be tough to beat in a GOP primary. Still, the party is expected to back Garrity, who said any decision Mastriano makes will not impact her decision. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Doug Mastriano relaunches ‘Doug4Gov' website, teasing second run
(WHTM) — Pennsylvania State Senator Doug Mastriano has done everything but launch a formal campaign for governor. Mastriano, the Republican Party's 2022 gubernatorial nominee, unveiled a refreshed version of his website on Tuesday. The site does not explicitly state is running for governor, but it does include his previous campaign slogan, 'Walk as Free People.' Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. Subscribe Now It also features a five-minute video narrated by the state senator and his wife, Rebecca Mastriano. In the video, the two discuss American history, Mastriano's military service, and their political ideals. It stops short of declaring his candidacy, as he has for weeks now. Earlier this month, Mastriano posted four campaign graphics on his X and Facebook accounts. The designs each read 'Doug Mastriano for Governor.' abc27 News previously reached out to Mastriano for comment about the social media posts, but did not receive a response. On a recent live stream, Mastriano said, 'There's no announcement yet' on whether he's running. Who is running for Governor of Pennsylvania? Still, he continues to express interest. Shortly after relaunching his website, Mastriano shared a post on his X account from Polling USA that showed him leading a GOP gubernatorial poll from Public Policy Polling. A retired Army colonel, Mastriano told abc27 in February that he believes he could win another primary after clinching the party's gubernatorial nomination in 2022 with nearly 44% support in a nine person primary. He went on to lose the general election to Josh Shapiro by nearly 800,000 votes, with Shapiro receiving more than 56% of the vote. Who is running for Governor of Pennsylvania? If Mastriano does run again, it could make for a contentious Republican primary. State Treasurer Stacy Garrity said on July 9 that she will make a decision on whether to run for governor 'very soon.' Elected twice to the position, Garrity holds Pennsylvania's record for the most votes received by a statewide candidate. Perennial candidate John Ventre, who ran in 2022 but did not receive enough signatures to make it on the GOP primary ballot, has also declared his candidacy. Congressman Dan Meuser announced in July 2025 that he would not run for governor. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Shake Shack's Iconic Burger Buns Have A Controversial Backstory
Shake Shack is an iconic institution, one with an empire that has expanded far beyond the humble hot dog cart at Madison Square Park in New York City, where it started. Boasting one of the best-ranked fast food burgers in the business, its rise through the world of hot-and-ready chains has gone off with very few hitches. There is one place the company ran into trouble, though: its buns. Now, you might be wondering, "How controversial can burger buns really be?" It turns out that the owners of Martin's Potato Rolls, which the company relies on to complement its never-frozen burgers, are big-time donors to Pennsylvania's 2022 gubernatorial candidate Doug Mastriano — in fact, former company president Jim Martin was Mastriano's top donor. Between him and his wife Donna, the people behind the delicious bread have given over $120,000 to Mastriano's various campaigns since 2021. If you're unfamiliar with Pennsylvania politics, Mastriano is a state senator who has drawn significant attention for his denial of the 2020 presidential election results. This includes allegedly conspiring with Donald Trump and Rudy Giuliani to spread false claims of voter fraud and using campaign funds to attend and help organize the January 6, 2021, rally that turned into an attack on the Capitol — activities for which he was subpoenaed by Congress. He also came under fire for paying $5,000 to the alt-right social media platform Gab, which is known as a hotbed for extreme antisemitic and Christian nationalist content, as well as for his hardline anti-abortion stance. He lost his governor's race to Josh Shapiro but remains a state senator, a position he has held since 2019. Read more: Ranking Fast Food Burgers From Worst To Best, According To Reddit Calls For Boycotts And Shake Shack's Response When the Martin family's support of Doug Mastriano became public knowledge, several prominent restaurants with ties to Martin's decided to end their partnerships, and many members of the culinary world called for boycotts of the brand — including prominent cookbook author J. Kenji López-Alt, who wrote in an Instagram post, "This is no joke. This is not small town local politics. This affects [Pennsylvania] gubernatorial elections, which plays a pivotal role in [U.S.] presidential elections." López-Alt had previously been a major fan of the brand's products, which he considered the best store-bought burger buns. This makes sense, as potato buns have come to be known as the best bread for burgers and greasy sandwiches — despite the fact that, with their high sugar content, they are among the most unhealthy store-bought breads. Despite the many places that severed ties with Martin's Potato Rolls, Shake Shack was not one of them. "In regards to the actions of individuals associated with the Martin's company and their personal political donations ... those are the choices of those individuals and do not express the values of Shake Shack," the company told CNN. "We continue to be in active conversations with Martin's to express our concern." However, that seems to have been the end of the discussion, at least as far as the public is concerned. Mastriano proposes banning non-military-related gatherings at Harrisburg's Soldiers' Grove
(WHTM)– Pennsylvania State Sen. Doug Mastriano is proposing legislation that would ban non-military-related events from happening at Soldiers Grove in Harrisburg. According to Mastriano's memo, the legislation aims to preserve the historical significance of Soldiers' Grove, which is situated on the grounds of the Pennsylvania State Capitol Complex in Harrisburg. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. Subscribe Now Soldiers Grove is a living memorial dedicated to Pennsylvania's war veterans. The space is often used for events, including a weekly food truck festival when the weather permits. The Pride Festival of Central Pennsylvania is set to take place at Soldiers' Grove next weekend, on July 26. The memo says the legislation seeks to 'protect the dignity of this sacred space by restricting its use to only those events held exclusively to honor or support veterans or first responders and their families. If passed, the Department of General Services would be prohibited from issuing permits to authorize non-military-related gatherings in the area. Individuals or groups that break the rule may be fined up to $2,500 or face up to one year in prison, per the memo. The legislation has not yet been submitted for introduction. Soldiers' Grove, a grove of Red Oak trees dedicated to all Pennsylvania military veterans, is situated behind the Capitol on Commonwealth Avenue. It was officially established under the Act of October 30, 1987, and lists the names of soldiers from Pennsylvania. It also hosts a historical marker commemorating the United States Colored Troops Grand Review, according to PAGetaway. The Grove surrounds Pennsylvania's Congressional Medal of Honor Monument and can be reserved for ceremonies, press conferences, and other events, according to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Doug Mastriano teases run for Pennsylvania Governor in new social media posts
(WHTM) – Pennsylvania State Senator Doug Mastriano is teasing a second run for Governor on Friday, polling his social media followers on which 'Doug Mastriano For Governor' campaign logo to use. Mastriano, the Republican Party's 2022 gubernatorial nominee, posted four potential campaign graphics on his X and Facebook accounts after teasing a run for governor over the past few months. Links to Mastriano's campaign websites featured on his social media pages ( and appear to have been rerouted to websites promoting questionable offshore gambling. Internet archive history shows the domains were rerouted in the spring. abc27 has reached out to Mastriano for comment on his social media posts and the website domains. No Republican candidates have formally entered the 2026 primary to date. Congressman Dan Meuser announced he would not seek the nomination, and Treasurer Stacy Garrity says an announcement on her decision is coming 'very soon.' Greg Rothman, chairman of the Pennsylvania Republican Party, told abc27 earlier this month that the party will roll out 'a really perfect nominee' in a few weeks, a sign the party may want to avoid another crowded primary. The retired Army colonel and State Senator clinched the Republican Party's gubernatorial nomination in 2022 with nearly 44% support and an endorsement from Donald Trump in a nine-person primary . He went on to lose the general election to Josh Shapiro by nearly 800,000 votes, with Shapiro receiving more than 56% of the vote. Mastriano drew criticism throughout his gubernatorial campaign for efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election and his presence in Washington, D.C., on January 6, though Mastriano says he did not participate in the Capitol riot. Questions were also raised after a photo of Mastriano wearing a Confederate uniform in 2014 at an Army War College faculty event surfaced. The recipient of a Ph.D. in History and the author of multiple books, Mastriano also faced academic pushback on the legitimacy of his research. Mastriano proposes banning non-military-related gatherings at Harrisburg's Soldiers' Grove Mastriano declined to run for the U.S. Senate in 2024, leading to Republican Dave McCormick's nomination and general election victory over incumbent Democrat Bob Casey. In the 2025 State Senate Session, Mastriano has introduced or co-sponsored legislation, including the 'Save Women's Sports Act,' a vaccine exemption for members of the Pennsylvania National Guard, and the establishment of a 'Green Alert System' to notify the public of a missing veteran.
