GA man found guilty of trafficking crystal meth
A Georgia man has been found guilty for trafficking methamphetamine. On July 14, 2020, the Douglasville Police Department conducted an undercover investigation after receiving information from a confidential informant. The informant, with cooperation from police, planned to buy three kilograms of crystal methamphetamine from Erik Hernandez at a Lithia Springs hotel. Surveillance units watched Hernandez arrive in a Honda Odyssey and get out wearing a gray backpack, which later was found to contain just under 3 kilograms of crystal meth. Two cellphones and more than $2,000 in cash were seized when he was arrested. Hernandez was found guilty of trafficking methamphetamine on May 22, 2025. He is scheduled to be sentenced on June 9. Police investigate possible murder-suicide at Douglasville shopping plaza
The Douglasville Police Department is investigating two deaths at a shopping plaza from Friday morning. According to the police department, officers were sent to the Chapel Hill Village shopping center around 7 a.m. after reports came in of two people with gunshot wounds. When police arrived, they found two people dead in a vehicle. The police department says that based on their initial investigation, the incident may be a murder-suicide. Investigators are working to identify the next of kin and have not identified either person found in the vehicle. Officers are still working to determine what happened. Metro Atlanta man found guilty of murder in fatal beating of elderly victim
A Douglas County man was found guilty this week in the fatal beating of an elderly victim. The district attorney's office says 32-year-old Jeffrey Pharr is charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, and obstruction of an officer. Officials say on July 8, 2021, the Douglasville Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance at a transitional home where multiple residents lived. The owner of the home told police that Pharr, who was one of the neighbors who lived at the home, attacked another neighbor inside of the home. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] The attack led the owner of the home to the garage where he says he heard scuffling noises. When he went to the garage, he saw the 76-year-old victim on the ground shielding himself from Pharr, who was repeatedly kicking the victim. Pharr told the owner not to call the police and that everything was fine, however as he was leaving, the owner saw Pharr stomp the victim's head multiple times. The owner decided to all the police after witnessing the assault. The victim was taken to Grady Hospital where he died after suffering traumatic injuries, such as bleeding on his brain. He was later arrested after the scuffle. On Wednesday, a Douglas County jury found Pharr guilty, and he was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole based on the facts of this case and his criminal history. 'Today's (Wednesday's) guilty verdict sends a powerful message that acts of brutality, such as the senseless killing of this victim, will not go unpunished,' District Attorney Dalia Racine said. 'We hope that this verdict helps the victim's family find healing as they grapple with the senseless loss of their loved one. We are proud of our team and law enforcement for their efforts in securing this verdict. Douglas County man found guilty of child molestation of family member
The Douglas County District Attorney's Office says a 27-year-old man was found guilty of child molestation of a family member. On March 20, 2022, the Douglasville Police Department responded to Wellstar Douglas Hospital where they spoke with a 13-year-old victim and family member when the victim told law enforcement Andra Thurman was molesting her. Thurman reportedly had a relationship with a family member, which gave him access to the victim. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] After a forensic interview with law enforcement where additional information about the abuse was disclosed, the victim told law enforcement the abuse occurred over a two-year period. The investigation into the assault showed the victim was dealing with self-harm due to the molestation, police learned. The victim testified to these facts when presented at trial. Because of her bravery, he will not be able to harm her again,' District Attorney Dalia Racine said. 'Our office remains committed to protecting the most vulnerable members of our community, and we will continue to relentlessly pursue justice for survivors of such horrific crimes.'
