Shocking Incident In Jabalpur
A disturbing incident has come to light from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, where a government school teacher demanded dowry from his fiancée's family shortly after their engagement. The incident, which occurred in Jabalpur's Sanskardhani area, has sparked public outrage.
After exchanging engagement rings, the teacher demanded Rs 11 lakh in cash and a car from his father-in-law. When these demands were not met, he ended the engagement just five days before the wedding. The girl's family, who attempted to reconcile, were reportedly thrown out of his home. In response, the girl's family has filed a complaint with the police.
Details Of The Engagement
The engagement, held in Trimurti Nagar, Gohalpur, on April 27, was initially a joyous occasion. The girl's family had gifted jewellery and offered Rs 2 lakh in cash. The wedding was set for May 6.
However, following the engagement, the boy's family unexpectedly demanded an additional Rs 11 lakh in cash and a car. Unable to meet these extravagant demands, the girl's family found themselves facing the abrupt cancellation of the wedding just days before the planned ceremony.
Following the cancellation, the girl's family approached the police, explaining that significant financial resources had already been invested in wedding preparations. They accused the boy's family of extortion under the guise of dowry, resulting in the marriage being called off when their demands were unmet. It was also revealed that the boy intended to marry another woman on the scheduled wedding date of May 6.
The girl's family has now filed a formal complaint against nine individuals, including the groom, under the Dowry Prohibition Act 1961 and the Indian Justice Code 2023.
