Shooting at local school parking lot, more than a dozen injured
AKRON, Ohio (WJW) – More than a dozen people were injured in a shooting incident that unfolded in the parking lot of an Akron Public School.
According to school officials, at about 3 a.m. on Monday, July 7, a shooting took place during a 'large gathering' in the Mason Community Learning Center parking lot.

'It appears the school property was randomly chosen for this altercation,' said a school spokesperson in a press release. 'Four young people, ranging in age from 14 to 20, sustained gunshot wounds and were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. In addition to the gunfire, more than a dozen other individuals were injured by vehicles fleeing the scene.'
School is currently on break for the summer. Officials said no damage was caused to the school building or the nearby recreation center.

'We are deeply saddened by this incident and our thoughts are with all those affected,' said Dr. Stacey Hodoh, Director of Strategic Communications for Akron Public Schools in the release. 'We are grateful for the swift response of the Akron Police Department and emergency action agencies, and are fully cooperating with their investigation. Our priority remains the safety and well-being of our students and the entire Akron community.'
Investigators reportedly recovered shell casings as part of their ongoing investigation.
