Food trucks, vendors take advantage of NFL Draft excitement in Green Bay
GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Local food trucks and vendors are already tapping into the draft week excitement through Green Bay's Draft Food Truck Rally. Multiple businesses are set up along South Broadway, serving a mix of soul food, tacos, homemade crafts, and hats. Most owners expect to remain at that location through Saturday. Draft City Music Fest will kick off NFL Draft week celebrations in Green Bay 'We produced the event so that people of color and diverse entrepreneurs can have a space where they can have a slightly cheaper rate to get into, so it can be more feasible to obtain,' said Kimyatta Ratliff, president and CEO of the Colorbold Business Association. Some of the vendors will continue serving into the evening, with many open until 9 p.m. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Austin Straubel Airport prepares for surge of visitors during NFL Draft
ASHWAUBENON, Wis. (WFRV) – Austin Straubel International Airport is set to see thousands of passengers come through the week of the 2025 NFL Draft. Local 5's Blake Borths caught up with Austin Straubel International Airport Director Marty Piette, who said for many fans, the airport will be the first of many stops along the way during the week of the NFL Draft, and he wants to make a great first impression. Leicht Park set to begins setup for Draft City Music Fest 'We want to be the first thing they see and the last thing they see,' said Piette. 'We want to put forward a great first impression, but also a first-class experience. We may be a small regional airport, but we still offer the same amenities as the larger airports in the country.' GRB is expecting over 40,000 passengers during draft week, more than double what Green Bay would see during a Packers home game. 'We've shipped the Packers out to São Paulo, Brazil, off to the United Kingdom, so we're really no strangers to large events, so we are really excited,' added Piette. 'It's something different than what we have done before.' With high-volume travel days beginning on Wednesday, passengers might want to take the extra time to be prepared for longer lines. Evers visits Valders, addresses NFL Draft security funding concerns 'When you are standing in line, I kind of think to myself, am I prepared?' said Jessica Mayle, Regional Spokesperson for the TSA. 'All those tiny items that I think people were used to putting in the bowls — loose coins, keys, your AirPods — those are the things that will most likely get left behind. Passengers are kinda in a rush. So pack all of those little things into your carry-on.' With the spotlight shining on Green Bay, airport officials say they're ready to help kick off an unforgettable draft week experience. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Over 100 employees to be laid off as college in northern Wisconsin closes in May, citing lack of attendance and high costs
ASHLAND, Wis. (WFRV) – A small liberal arts school in northern Wisconsin announced that it will officially close, likely for good, after the end of the school year, citing attendance drops and high costs. According to the Department of Workforce Development, Northland College's closure is expected to be permanent as of May 31. With a few exceptions, all employees will be impacted. Draft City Music Fest reveals schedule for Wednesday & Saturday at Leicht Park, De La Soul & Less Than Jake to headline 112 employees will be laid off as a result of the closure. Northland College, founded in 1892, originally announced the news in February, citing financial jeopardy that has been problematic since March 2024. 'Despite collaborative efforts, we no longer have the resources needed to navigate economic and demographic storms endangering small, liberal arts institutions today,' Board of Trustees Chair Ted Bristol said via a release. Bristol also cited declining enrollment in the February release. Four finalists named for UW-Oshkosh chancellor position 'With declining enrollment and soaring costs, it takes more to operate the College than we raise in tuition,' Bristol said via the release. 'Even after enacting aggressive measures to cut costs and raise revenues, Northland College has no sustainable path forward.' Bumping rights will not be available for any impacted employees. Interim President Barb Lundberg said that the official closure will be May 31. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
