What can VJ Edgecombe bring to the 76ers as a rookie?
What can VJ Edgecombe bring to the 76ers as a rookie? | NBA Draft Live Yahoo Sports' Draft Live crew reacts to the Philadelphia 76ers' selection of Baylor wing VJ Edgecombe with the 3rd overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. View more Video Transcript You guys predicted it. DJ Edgecombe goes #3 overall. Advertisement He's headed to Philly. We like this pick. We like the athleticism, what he adds to the team. Let's start with VJ's game though. What is an improvement that needs to happen immediately at the next level? Well, number one, he probably might be the best athlete in the whole class, but what I was most impressed with, because you know I'm a Baylor alumni through and through, I'm gonna watch every single game, so I've studied this man from day one when he had the dunk on Mark for you, son, to the end when they got beat, right? So for me, BJ Edgecombe, when I called his games, the one thing that I continuously talked about was his shooting. Advertisement He had to be more of a consistent shooter. He struggled early on, struggled through the first half of the conference play, but he got better. There were stretches where Baylor was not healthy. It was DJ Edge Cole and Rob right out there going up against veterans in the Big 12 night in, night out. BJ Ed's Cob shooting got better, and the way I knew it got better was Coach Drew Scott Je was running plays down screens, pin downs for him, stagger screens on the baseline for him to be able to. Turn his toe, run across and be able to catch it, get it square to the show, get it square to the basket, and knock it down. Advertisement When he started doing that, his game went to a different level. King, I mean, that's spot on. He shot over the full season 34% from 3, but if you look at his two years as an upperclassman in high school playing at Long Island Lutheran, pretty close to here where the draft is happening, over 40% from 3. I think you're banking on BJ Edge on becoming a knockdown shooter in the NBA. Some of the flashes you talked about advanced shot making, not just a standstill guy. So if you have that. On top of elite athleticism, 5.6 boards per game, 2.1 steals, and some of the rebounds he grabbed, you know, you know this, it's just like flying over people, one-handed boards at the least with VJ Edgecombe, the Sixers are getting a 3&D style role player and then you look at what he did for the Bahamas national team last year running pick and roll, facilitating, playing point guard for that team. Advertisement Edgecomb checks the short term box, helping this team out as a role player in the long term box he could end up becoming. The 2nd or 3rd best player in the draft indeed and that's why I think the Sixers take him at the 3rd pick here. How do you grade this pick? A to F? I'll give it an A minus. I, I, I think with Edgecombe, I think ideally I would have loved the the Sixers to be able to trade down but if a deal is not there it's not there. And so for Edgecombe, I'm going here I think it is the best choice for them over Ace Bailey over Trey Johnson, who I love, but I think it's a little bit too redundant next to McCain and Maxi, but Edgecombe fits the best and has arguably the highest upside.

NFL Draft 2025 surprise picks: Browns spend a third-round selection on Dillon Gabriel because reasons
There are always surprises in the NFL Draft, and the 2025 edition didn't wait long to deliver its first. The Jacksonville Jaguars stunned the league by trading up from No. 5 to get the second pick from the Cleveland Browns and take Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter. Hunter was considered by most talent evaluators to be the top overall player in this year's draft. The price to land him wasn't cheap for the Jags. They gave up the fifth overall pick, their second-round pick (No. 36 overall), a fourth-round pick (No. 126 overall) and their 2026 first-round pick. In addition to the No. 2 pick, Cleveland sent Jacksonville their fourth-round pick (No. 104 overall) and a sixth-rounder (No. 200). (Little did we know that Hunter wasn't the only Colorado star to be part of a surprising draft storyline.) Here's a look at the rest of the surprise picks of the draft: McMillan was considered by many to be the top wide receiver in the 2025 class — it just isn't considered a strong class for wide receivers at the top. That made the Panthers taking him eighth to be somewhat of a surprise. It was certainly a surprise to Dallas Cowboys star Micah Parsons, who was disappointed McMillan didn't fall to Dallas at No. 12. #Cowboys Micah Parsons was really upset the Carolina Panthers took WR Tetairoa McMillan.'That was supposed to be our pick. He was supposed to be opposite CeeDee Lamb.'Gut punch for Dallas.(🎥: @BleacherReport on YT) — Brandon Loree (@Brandoniswrite) April 25, 2025 Tampa Bay spending a first-round pick on a receiver when the Bucs already have Chris Godwin and Mike Evans came as a surprise. Texas' Matthew Golden was also still on the board when the Buccaneers picked. The need is clear. Why the Falcons chose this particular prospect at this particular spot was not, especially when factoring in the draft capital. Pearce Jr. is ranked No. 37 overall on Yahoo Sports' consensus big board, and the Falcons traded a future first-round pick as part of the deal to move back into Thursday's first round at No. 26 to get him. The move was panned by Yahoo Sports' Draft Live show crew, mainly for the Falcons' process. Sanders' draft projection — fifth-round range, per the sources that spoke with our own Charles McDonald and Charles Robinson for the 2025 All-Juice Team — was generally much lower than top half of the second round. Sanders wasn't in the top 75 for either McDonald or Nate Tice's big boards. Maybe the South Carolina defensive tackle will be a hit, especially under Sean McDermott's tutelage, but the Bills traded up for a serious a mismatch between forecast and actual selection. Hmm. Gilotte is defensible in the context of defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo maximizing his talent, but that's about it. He wins with power and lacks top-end speed, and will need plenty of development. Gilotte was nowhere to be found on any of Yahoo Sports' final big boards. Size is a major question mark for the 5-foot-11, 220-pound Martin, whom league sources told Yahoo Sports would likely go in the seventh-round range when he was selected to the All-Juice Team. The 49ers felt he was worth a much higher pick than that. This is ... not a QB anyone expected to go before Shedeur Sanders. Gabriel was prolific in college, especially his last season at Oregon, but his lack of size, processing speed, arm strength and accuracy is worrisome. Yet he was still a third-round pick. What?

NFL is not blackballing Shedeur Sanders but his draft slide is surprising
NFL is not blackballing Shedeur Sanders but his draft slide is surprising Yahoo Sports' 'Draft Live' crew reacts to the Cleveland Browns selecting Oregon QB Dillion Gabriel in the third round of the draft. View more Video Transcript Is Dylan quarterback. OK, let, let me just we got now we can start the discourse. Advertisement I mean there is a there is a question that's crazy. That's that's insane. That's insane to me. Uh, yeah, no, I mean, OK, arms, it's, it's like 2018, bro. Yeah, I mean, I, I like some of his play this year. He got the ball well on out, he got the ball out well on outbreaking routes and stuff like that, but. Certainly didn't expect him to be a 3rd rounder. I, I mean, but this is the moment where the, the discourse that you mentioned that I'm sure is happening on Twitter right now, I'm not gonna open it because I don't want to look at it, is largely gonna be the the league is blackballing in some way or teaching should do. Advertisement I saw former players last night tweeting out the league is sending Shido a message to humble them. I don't think anybody in this panel believes that. No, he ain't good enough for that, I don't like his name, but do we believe that Shadour is a less than quarterback than Dylan Gab? No, no, definitely not. This is the first quarterback to go that I'm like, well, this is, this is a guy truly I think is below his separate tier. The other guys I have thought are all in the same tier. That that's kind of been my thing. There's 4 or 5 guys I thought were day 2 guys. I have thought Dylan Gabriel was a day 3 guy. Advertisement Um, what tools are you working with here? I wanna talk about tools like short arms not great. It's, it's OK. He's throws a tight spiral, but it's not great. Um, I mean, some comparisons have been with you shrunk Tua, OK. What, what am I working with there? You know, that, that to me is a day 3, day 3, day 3, day 3, day 3 type of guy. I know people love his competitiveness, but again, it's just he's old. I, I don't know. What are you working with here in the 3rd round, a team that I could, they could do so. Different things you complimenting you. I was complimenting you so much. You just had to do something, you know. Advertisement He's got a shot at meaningful snaps, like, yeah, he's, he, there is a path for Dilly Gabriel to take for the Cleveland Browns. He'll take at least 100 snaps this year. Put it in the book, yeah, no, but again, like, what's the path to upside for this pick here? Like you're, you just look again, shout out to Dylan Gabriel. Like you just got around. That's awesome. I don't wanna just throw him under the bus, but like. How are they not just, you know, they're just gonna take a quarterback next year and like at best he's a pocket and a pocket and Gabriel and then back down for the offensive line to figure out how to work. Advertisement Yeah. That's another thing you dropping a lefty, you want to be the starter. Yeah, Gabriel's left handed. You don't want the left hand to be the backup because then all of a sudden you know you're, you're totally screwed. You're switching everything up. Generally coaches don't want lefties and, and if I'm being honest, that is you have to usually be a special talent to finally end up being a lefty, uh, or to stick as a lefty quarterback. I don't know, uh, it's just there's not much to tap into, and that's I always chase that with quarterbacks. That's why I'm high on Riley Leonard because I just thought that he has more to tap into. Advertisement He's 23 years younger, um, yeah, so that's just, just doesn't, it's just peculiar. That was a weird one. OK, so does anyone believe that there's a wild conspiracy theory against Shadoor? No, OK, so then we've got too much NFL coaches and scouts have too much on their hands to worry about some guy's feelings and the conspiracy about it. They want to vote on their team. They don't care about that stuff.
