Madonna's 40-Year-Old Single Finally Becomes A Bestseller

Most artists who break through in top 40 pop only enjoy a few years of mainstream success, at least in the eyes of the general public. Madonna defied that pattern decades ago, and while she works on new material and develops a biopic, she continues to reissue older tracks, turning them into collectibles and chart wins — in some cases, for the very first time. The pop icon recently dropped a special edition of "Dress You Up," one of her earliest smashes, and the fortieth anniversary release has become a bestseller in the United Kingdom, sending a decades-old single onto several tallies. 'Dress You Up' Debuts "Dress You Up" launches on a pair of U.K. charts this week. The tune narrowly secures spots on both the Official Singles Downloads and Official Singles Sales rankings, arriving at Nos. 93 and 97, respectively. Three New Hits in 2025 Alone Throughout her career, Madonna has sent dozens of tracks to both purchase-only rankings, and 2025 has been busy for the Queen of Pop — even though she hasn't pushed anything entirely brand new. In just the past few months, she has sent both "Live to Tell" and "Gone Gone Gone" onto the Official Singles Sales and Official Singles Downloads charts. 'Dress You Up' Dropped 40 Years Ago Originally released in the summer of 1985 as the final single from Like a Virgin, Madonna's second album, "Dress You Up" was one of several global smashes from that era, alongside the title track, "Material Girl," and "Angel," among others. The song peaked at No. 5 in both the U.S. and the U.K., adding to her growing list of top 10 smashes. The new three-track digital release includes a remix, a 12-inch formal mix, and what's billed as a "casual instrumental mix." Hardcore Madonna fans purchased enough copies to make it a chart hit on tallies that didn't even exist when the song was first promoted. Veronica Electronica Holds at No. 1 The arrival of "Dress You Up" follows Veronica Electronica, her latest full-length, which remains on two U.K. charts for a second week. The set collects remixes from her Ray of Light era, and it holds at No. 1 on the Official Dance Albums roster while falling from No. 3 to No. 41 on the Official Album Downloads tally. Two other compilations — Finally Enough Love and The Immaculate Collection — also appear on one list each in the U.K.

Madonna Drops Dress You Up Remix, Dedicates It To Barbie Designers Killed In Italy Crash

Last Updated: Madonna dedicated the Dress You Up remix to Mario Paglino and Gianni Grossi, two designers who created custom Barbie dolls. Madonna is celebrating the 40th anniversary of Dress You Up, originally released on July 31, 1985. The hit track was the last single from her popular album Like a Virgin. To honour this special day, the song has been re-released as a digital single with three versions, a remix edit, a 12 inch formal mix and a casual instrumental mix. Madonna dedicated the latest release to Mario Paglino and Gianni Grossi, two designers who created custom Barbie dolls, including some inspired by Madonna herself. Sadly, they passed away in a car accident in Italy just days before the anniversary. Honouring Two Creative Souls As per People, 'With the tragic news this week of the passing of the doll designers and Madonna superfans Mario Paglino and Gianni Grossi, we dedicate this release to them. Thank you for dressing up so many of your creations in Madonna's iconic looks over the years." Mario Paglino and Gianni Grossi, who were both partners in work and life, lost their lives in a road accident in Italy. According to Sky TG24, the crash happened when an 82-year-old man, Egidio Ceriano, drove in the wrong direction on the A4 Turin-Milan highway. Reports suggest that he was driving on the wrong side for a long time before the accident happened. The crash occurred between Novara Est and Marcallo Mesero, near the border of Piedmont and Lombardy. Ceriano also died in the accident. Following the accident, Barbie paid tribute to the late couple on Instagram and wrote, 'The Barbie team is heartbroken by the loss of Mario Paglino and Gianni Grossi, two treasured creators and Mattel collaborators who brought joy and artistry to the world of Barbie as Magia2000. As passionate and talented designers and lifelong collectors, their spirit and love for the brand turned every creation they touched into a masterpiece. Beyond their remarkable talent, they shared an energy that lit up every space they entered." 'Whether leading the Italian Doll Convention in Milan or showcasing their talents and love for Barbie at doll shows all over the world, their presence brought warmth, laughter, and a sense of belonging. Their generosity was boundless, creating countless dolls to be auctioned to benefit charities close to fellow collectors' hearts. Barbie is better because they loved the brand, and our beloved collector community is richer for having known them and shared in their passion. Barbie honors their memory with deep gratitude," the team added. 'With the tragic news this week of the passing of the doll designers and Madonna superfans Mario Paglino and Gianni Grossi, we dedicate this release to them,' the press released noted. 'Thank you for dressing up so many of your creations in Madonna iconic looks over the years.' Last week, Madonna released her long-shelved Ray of Light remix album, Veronica Electronica, nearly 27 years after the companion LP was first sidelined. Veronica Electronica features seven Ray of Light-era remixes from late Nineties powerhouse producers like Peter Rauhofer, William Orbit, Sasha, BT, and Victor Calderone, plus the original demo of 'Gone, Gone, Gone,' an unreleased track co-produced by Rick Nowels from the Ray of Light sessions. Madonna's most recent studio album, Madame X, arrived in 2019; the now-six-year gap between albums is the longest of Madonna's career. The singer is currently working with filmmaker Shawn Levy to develop a limited series at Netflix. It's unclear what period of Madonna's career the television series will focus on, although she has previously hinted at her long-awaited biopic being turned into a TV series. Recently, actress Julia Garner confirmed she is still on track to portray Madonna the biopic. 'Dress You Up' Tracklisting: 1. Dress You Up Remix/Edit 2. Dress You Up The 12″ Formal Mix 3.
