Bad news for Property Brothers amid HGTV cancelation bloodbath
Two of the three Property Brothers shows have been postponed at HGTV in the wake of the network's dizzying cancellation spree last month. Without warning, HGTV pulled the plug on Bargain Block, Married to Real Estate and Izzy Does It - with sources telling more changes are coming. The sudden cancellations sent shockwaves through the channel's fandom, and left employees of several shows fearing for their jobs. On the Fourth of July, HGTV's Battle on the Beach joined the scrap heap as co-host Alison Victoria revealed the show had not been renewed for season five. Now, identical twins Jonathan and Drew Scott of Property Brothers fame have seen their own careers affected by the shakeup. Their new show Chasing the West, which was previously slated to premiere this Thursday, July 10, has seen its inaugural episode bumped nearly three weeks to Wednesday, July 30, according to a report by EntertainmentNow. Another show of theirs, Don't Hate Your House With the Property Brothers, was meant to begin airing its second season on July 30 - the date now earmarked for the opening episode of Chasing the West. An updated press release states only that season two of Don't Hate Your House With the Property Brothers will start 'later this year,' with no specific date announced. The Scotts' show Celebrity IOU however has managed to stay on its original schedule, premiering this Wednesday, July 9, with guest star Rachel Brosnahan. Chasing the West will see the Property Brothers help families escape the frenzy of the city and acclimatize themselves to country life across an eight-episode first season. Meanwhile Don't Hate Your House With the Property Brothers is a home renovation series whose first case on season one was the Scott brothers' own parents. Shortly after the initial raft of HGTV cancellations last month, network sources spoke exclusively to about the thinking behind the move. 'We had to stop the bleeding,' said the senior source, who claimed that revenues were underperforming and the network needed to act. 'We were hemorrhaging money. So in order to stop the bleeding, we had to have a bloodbath. It was calculated cuts to make things make sense, financially.' Without warning, HGTV pulled the plug on Farmhouse Fixer, Bargain Block, Married to Real Estate and Izzy Does It. The sudden cancellations sent shockwaves through the HGTV fandom, and left employees of several shows fearing for their jobs. 'Decisions are still being made,' said the insider, who works directly with programming. 'It sucks for everyone involved but that's the TV business. Everyone understands that. Cable networks are struggling now, and we all have to make smart decisions.' Farmhouse Fixer host Jonathan Knight confirmed that his show, co-presented by Kristina Crestin, had been axed on Wednesday after three seasons. 'A lot of you have been asking about the future of Farmhouse Fixer,' he said. 'I am sad to say HGTV has decided not to move forward with another season. 'While I'm still processing the reasons that led to their decision, Kristina and I are so grateful for all your support over the past three seasons. Television has been so incredibly fun for us.' It was a surprise move by the network, given that former New Kids on the Block singer Knight is one of the most recognizable stars on the HGTV roster. 'He's well-known for sure,' said the network insider, 'but there are hosts on our shows who are more the face of the network. We're not getting rid of [Hometown hosts] Ben and Erin Napier anytime soon. They're probably the biggest stars we've got.' The decision to keep or cut a show comes down to revenue, and the Napiers enjoy the network's highest ratings. Each episode of Hometown garners around one million viewers, and is rebroadcast several times throughout the week. Other top performers include Rock the Block, My Lottery Dream Home, 100 Day Dream Home, Castle Impossible and House Hunters International. 'Obviously, things can change but the ratings performers are probably pretty safe,' said the insider. 'House Hunters International is a bit more expensive to produce, but the ratings justify it.' But some of the lesser-known shows, including Luxe for Less and Unsellable Houses, are facing uncertain futures. The show Izzy Does It was an easier cancellation decision, the executive said, because it was just entering Season 2 and had not yet built a devoted fan base. Host Israel 'Izzy' Battres has not issued a statement directly addressing his show's cancellation, but did respond to a fan online. 'Unfortunately, no season two,' Battres said, 'but we're truly thankful for everyone watching and supporting us!!' Married to Real Estate's hosts Mike Jackson and Egypt Sherrod described the decision to axe their show as 'unexpected' in a joint statement. 'Mike and I just landed back in the States after an unforgettable family trip through the Mediterranean, and we're met with unexpected news: HGTV has decided not to move forward with Married to Real Estate,' it read. 'While the chain of events leading up to this is disheartening, we are deeply grateful. Grateful for four incredible seasons. Grateful for our amazing crew and supportive fans.' The network insider acknowledged that the cancellations were 'brutal' but believes that all those impacted would find other projects. 'There are so many opportunities in home renovation media, whether it's on a network like HGTV or something online or something totally different. I am pretty sure everyone will land on their feet.'

The 'Property Brothers' reveal which kitchen appliances they always avoid: 'We were brainwashed'
If your kitchen still runs on a gas stove, "Property Brothers" stars Jonathan and Drew Scott have a clear recommendation: make the switch to induction. The HGTV duo, known for its home renovation expertise, is speaking out about the hidden health risks of cooking with gas and why electric alternatives are better for your home and the planet. While gas ranges have long been considered the gold standard in home cooking, studies now show they may be quietly polluting the air inside your home. According to Scientific American, gas stoves release nitrogen dioxide, a pollutant linked to increased respiratory issues. In fact, nearly 13% of childhood asthma cases in the U.S. can be traced back to indoor gas stove use, one study found. "We were brainwashed to think that [gas] was better than electric induction ranges," Drew said in a YouTube video. Since making the switch, he noted, "the air quality in our home is already so much better." His brother Jonathan shared a similar view in an interview with Bloomberg, saying, "Decarbonizing the home is critical because of the human health element. 40% of our energy related greenhouse gases come from buildings. The future of the home, in my mind, it's much cleaner and much safer." Induction cooktops use electromagnetic energy to heat pots and pans directly. This technology offers faster cooking, greater safety, and improved energy efficiency. The Department of Energy estimates that induction cooktops are up to three times more efficient than gas stoves and 10% more efficient than electric ones. That means lower energy bills, fewer emissions, and a safer cooking environment. For consumers concerned about cost, there are increasingly affordable options. Drew Scott pointed out that prices are dropping, with four-burner induction cooktops starting at around $275. Thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act, homeowners can also receive up to $840 in federal rebates to help cover the cost of switching, although these incentives may not last forever. For renters or anyone not ready for a full kitchen remodel, plug-in induction burners start at just $50 and offer an easy, low-commitment way to transition. When you're buying a kitchen appliance, which of these factors is most important to you? Price Safety Effectiveness Style and appearance Click your choice to see results and speak your mind. Induction stoves also outperform traditional options. They can boil water in half the time and stop heating instantly when the cookware is removed. These features offer better control and can lead to long-term savings on utility bills. With new construction bans on gas hookups already rolling out in places like New York City and statewide in New York as early as 2026, the shift away from gas is already underway. And making the switch now doesn't just future-proof your kitchen — it also helps build a cleaner, cooler future for everyone. Induction is a smart place to start if you're looking for a quick, cost-effective way to make your home safer and greener. Drew Scott & Linda Phan's Family Photo Starring Daughter Piper Shows She's Already Half the Size of Her Mom
Drew Scott and Linda Phan's latest family photo has everyone wondering where the time has gone, and how tall their one-year-old daughter Piper is going to get! Earlier this week, Scott shared the most darling set of photos of him, Phan, and their daughter Piper. He shared the photos on his Instagram with the caption reading, 'This is 1🎂 It has FLOWN by! Happy bday Pipes❤️👶.' In the first photo, we see Scott and Phan holding onto Piper's hands as they walk together, all in colorful apparel, and then the shadow of them all walking together. But did you notice it too? Piper is already nearly half the size of her mama! Those Scott genes are kicking in in the height department! And this isn't the only post Scott made for his daughter's birthday. Earlier the same day, he shared a compilation video of his dancing Queen to honor her cutest habit: dancing to everything! He shared the video with the caption reading, 'Happy 1st birthday to our little dancing queen! ❤️' Happy belated birthday, Piper! For those who don't know, Scott and Phan met at a Toronto Fashion Week event in 2010, hitting it off soon after. They later married in 2018. After 12 years together, they welcomed their son Parker James, born in May 2022, specifically on their fourth wedding anniversary. In early 2024, they announced they were expecting another baby, and on June 5, 2024, they welcomed their daughter Piper Rae. Back in 2023, during an interview with Drew and Jonathan, Drew talked about what being a father meant to him. 'I don't want to be the dad who's off filming and works all the time. The traditional stereotypes are not of interest to me. Linda and I both want to be impactful in Parker's growth,' he said. 'There's no perfect parent or perfect dad and families look different for everyone. As long as you're someone who's giving your all, giving a lot of love, showing love, and encouraging your kids to be kind, you're doing the job.'Best of SheKnows There's Something So Beautiful About the Bond Between Brothers Tween & Teen Slang 2025: A Definitive Guide to 'What the Hellyante' Your Kid Is Saying Right Now Celebrity Moms Who Were Honest About Miscarriage & Pregnancy Loss — Because It Matters
