Ashish Vidyarthi says he won't return to films without a central role: ‘Yeh actor abhi zinda hai'

Bollywood, or any film industry for that matter, often rewards great performances rather weirdly. They see an actor play a believable antagonist, and suddenly he is the bad guy in every film. Actor Ashish Vidyarthi, who is known for his roles in films like Droh Kaal (1994), Vaastav: The Reality (1999), and Haider (2014), has always portrayed the role of the henchman, the villain, and everything in the middle to perfection. But the actor has never headlined a film and has never been the face that is in front of the posters. In his latest vlog, Ashish talked about this reality and declared that he won't be returning as an actor unless he gets a central role. In a video released on his own YouTube channel, Ashish addressed fans who had been enquiring about the reason behind his absence from recent films. He said, 'Let's make a few things clear. All of you (audience) are completely right. These days I am not seen in as many films as I was a part of back in the day. I don't know if the nation wants to know, but some of you definitely want to know. I am admitting this myself: I am a great actor who has done incredible roles throughout his career. But now I am looking for the kind of roles that haven't been offered to me yet: amazing central roles.' PHOTOS: Inside Ashish Vidyarthi's home filled with furniture he bought while shooting with Rajinikanth, plates from Assam and mats from Jodhpur Ashish Vidyarthi reassured the audience that he is already taking steps towards making a return to acting. 'I am constantly in talks with directors, producers and casting directors, and I say to them, 'Ab tak nahi mila hai iska matlab yeh nahi ki ab nahi de sakte aap mujhe yeh role (Just because I haven't got them yet doesn't mean that you can't give me those roles now).' I am grateful for the fact that throughout my 30-year career, I have done 300 films in 11 different languages. But now I have decided that I want to do some good central roles. Sometimes we isolate ourselves from the world. We sit alone in our homes, but I am not going to sit around feeling depressed.' Ashish then shared with fans what he has been up to since taking a break from acting, explaining that relying too heavily on a single career path can sometimes backfire. He said, 'I started motivational speaking to motivate others and myself. One profession might not last you your entire life, and I understood that. Now people see a new side of me on social media, and I have always been a fan of learning new things. While waiting for the roles, I explored a lot of other sides of myself. I was advised to do comedy, and in my foolishness, I prepared an entire comedy set, and I named it 'Sit Down Ashish'. The entire show has no sexual innuendos, no crass language of any sort, and it's something that families can enjoy together.' Ashish Vidyarthi told his fans that 'yeh actor abhi zinda hai (this actor is still alive)' and assured them that he will be returning to the screen the moment he gets the right role.
