You can rent a cottage on the grounds of Scotland's 'Pink Palace'

Drumlanrig Castle & Country Estate has announced the completion of renovations of a self-catering property set within the surroundings of the Estate. Montagu Cottage is now available for guests seeking "an idyllic retreat" in the heart of Dumfries and Galloway. Nestled beside Laundry Cottage, another of the estate's self catering properties, Montagu Cottage is just a short walk from the iconic Drumlanrig Castle. The Dumfriesshire home of the Duke and Duchess of Buccleuch, the 17th century castle is one of the most important Renaissance buildings in the country. Due to its finely hewn red sandstone, the castle has earned the nickname of the 'Pink Palace'. Laird of Glasgow. Retaining their Category B-listed status, the properties are an integral part of the Estate's history. Montagu Cottage accommodates six guests across three bedrooms, including a king-size or twin room and two en-suite double bedrooms. Guests can unwind in the open-plan living and kitchen area, warmed by a double-fronted wood burner, while the large family bathroom features a walk-in shower and a luxurious roll-top bath. The estate introduced Queensberry Cottage to the collection in 2024, while on the wider estate, just 10 minutes' drive from Drumlanrig Castle, Dabton House, which sleeps 24, opened in 2023, following a full renovation. From March to October, guests staying at any of the holiday houses on the estate can enjoy exclusive guest benefits including free entry to the Estate's Gardens and Adventure Playground. A variety of additional experiences are available to enhance their stay, including Castle Tours, e-bike hire, loch and river fishing, simulated game shooting, and Scottish Assault Courses.
