OnePlus Nord 5 vs Poco F7 5G: Spec-by-spec comparison of mid-range flagships?

India's mid-range smartphone market is heating up with the launch of two powerful devices: the OnePlus Nord 5, launched today (July 8), and the Poco F7 5G, which made its debut in June 2025. Both smartphones offer premium designs and AI-driven features and are priced aggressively to attract users looking for flagship-level performance without the flagship price tag. Here is a detailed, on-paper comparison of the two handsets. In terms of pricing, both brands are targeting the same price segment but with slightly different configurations. The OnePlus Nord 5 starts at ₹ 31,999 for the base 8GB RAM + 128GB storage model. It is also available in 12GB + 256GB and 12GB + 512GB variants, priced at ₹ 34,999 and ₹ 37,999, respectively. Colour options include Dry Ice, Marble Sands, and Phantom Grey. The smartphone goes on sale starting 12 PM on July 9. The Poco F7 5G, meanwhile, is priced at ₹ 31,999 for the 12GB + 256GB variant and ₹ 33,999 for the 12GB + 512GB model, undercutting OnePlus' higher storage models. Poco offers its device in Cyber Silver Edition, Frost White, and Phantom Black. Both smartphones feature a large 6.83-inch AMOLED display, though there are notable differences in screen quality. The OnePlus Nord 5 offers a refresh rate of up to 144Hz, a peak brightness of 1,800 nits, and a smooth user interface enhanced by the company's OxygenOS 15. On the other hand, the Poco F7 5G delivers a 1.5K resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and a class-leading 3,200 nits peak brightness, along with HDR10+ certification and Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection. In terms of design, the Nord 5 is slightly lighter at 211 grams with an IP65 rating for dust and splash resistance. Poco's device, however, is more rugged, featuring a metal frame, glass back, and triple IP ratings (IP66, IP68, IP69), offering greater durability. Under the hood, both smartphones run on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8s platform, but the generations differ. The Nord 5 is powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, while the Poco F7 5G boasts the newer Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. Both are paired with LPDDR5X RAM and up to 512GB storage, promising fast multitasking and storage speeds. The Nord 5 runs on OxygenOS 15 based on Android 15, whereas the Poco F7 5G is powered by HyperOS 2.0, Xiaomi's custom Android 15-based interface. Poco also gets a notable advantage with its long-term software support, offering four years of Android updates and six years of security patches, compared to OnePlus. On the camera front, both devices feature 50MP primary sensors, but the sensor types and front camera specs differ. The OnePlus Nord 5 uses a Sony LYT-700 sensor with OIS for its main rear camera, along with an 8MP ultrawide lens. The front camera is a standout, offering a high-resolution 50MP Samsung ISOCELL JN5 sensor for selfies. In comparison, the Poco F7 5G also features a 50MP Sony IMX882 sensor and an 8MP ultrawide, but the front camera is limited to 20MP. While both setups are capable, OnePlus may appeal more to selfie enthusiasts. Battery life and charging are areas where Poco takes the lead. The Indian variant of the Poco F7 5G houses a 7,550mAh battery, supporting 90W fast charging and 22.5W reverse charging, making it ideal for power users. The Nord 5, while still impressive, includes a 6,800mAh battery with 80W SuperVOOC charging. Additionally, Poco integrates a 3D IceLoop cooling system and AI-based thermal regulation to optimise performance during gaming or heavy multitasking — features not highlighted in the Nord 5's specs. In terms of connectivity, both phones support modern standards like 5G, NFC, GPS, and USB Type-C. However, Poco edges ahead once again with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0, while the Nord 5 features Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4. OnePlus does include an IR blaster and a programmable Plus Key, which adds a degree of customisability and convenience. To sum up, both the OnePlus Nord 5 and the Poco F7 5G offer excellent value and performance in the sub- ₹ 40,000 category. The Nord 5 delivers a high refresh rate screen, large front camera, and unique hardware features like the Plus Key and IR blaster. However, the Poco F7 5G appears more aggressive on paper, with a newer chipset, brighter and more durable display, longer software support, advanced AI integration, and a bigger battery with faster charging.

The OnePlus Nord 5 features a powerful Snapdragon 8 chip

OnePlus just announced the Nord 5 smartphone, a refresh of its popular mid-range handset line. This one includes a flagship Snapdragon 8S Gen 3 chipset by Qualcomm, which should provide plenty of raw power for gaming, multitasking and general use. There's an upgraded cooling system here, along with support for LPDDR5X RAM. It features a dual rear camera system and will be available in a pale blue finish that's officially called "Dry Ice." The company says the upgraded specs allow the Nord 5 to really shine when gaming, touting "unparalleled performance in its class" with "robust support for leading mobile games." It mentioned that the device can run Call of Duty: Mobile natively at 144FPS, with real-time ray tracing. OnePlus is also releasing a companion phone called the Nord CE5. We don't know much about this one, other than it's likely to be a slightly cheaper version of the standard headset. Both of these phones will feature the company's newly-announced Plus Key , which replaced the Alert Slider . Users can customize this button to perform a number of tasks, but it's better known as an instantaneous way to pull up AI tools. The cute lil AI button first appeared with the OnePlus 13s, which launched in Asia earlier this month. In addition to the Nord 5, the company also announced the OnePlus Buds 4. These high-end earbuds offer ultra-low latency audio for gamers, with dual drivers, support for Hi-Res audio and other bells and whistles. They will be available in both green and dark gray. It also revealed a new smartwatch and a tablet. We don't have pricing or availability information for any of this stuff just yet. The company has a launch event planned for July 8, which should provide us with all of those relevant details.

Many of Those Much-Hyped DOGE ‘Receipts' Aren't Adding Up

Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency finally released a 'wall of receipts' as part of its 'maximum transparency' promise Monday, but some of their figures are not quite adding up. The group boasted that its 'estimated savings' for American taxpayers is $55 billion so far, but the total it gave Monday adds up to just a third of that figure—and appears to claim credit for the closure of two government offices that were shuttered under Joe Biden. Those closures are the National Archives centers in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, and in Fairfield, Ohio. DOGE's site claims the latter location was a 'True Termination - Agency Closed Office.' No other details are offered. Those centers' approximate closing dates were announced way back on Aug. 1, however, when Biden was still president. 'The records and artifacts of the Barack Obama Presidential Library, which have been held temporarily at Hoffman Estates, will be permanently moved to College Park, MD, in late FY 2025,' a news release from National Archives announced at the time. That release added of the Ohio location: 'The records in the Fairfield facility are being relocated to other FRCs, including the Dayton FRC and Great Lakes storage facility during FY25.' That announcement came 10 days after Harris took over the Democrats' presidential ticket, which was well before the idea of DOGE had gained traction in MAGA World. Now that Biden-era closing is being touted as a win by Musk's Gen Z minions. The 'total savings' for both centers is a combined $780,308, which is a drop in the bucket compared to the country's $6.8 trillion budget. It does, however, appear to call into question the legitimacy of other DOGE line items. DOGE's site has confused many users who have noted a handful of its nixed contracts showed a figure of $0 under 'saved.' That includes a terminated contract for Dry Ice at the Department of Health and Human Services, which DOGE's site lists as costing $104,190 but shows $0 in savings when clicked on for additional details. Others claimed on X that Musk's team were adding the full value of a contract into its total DOGE savings—even if the majority of the contract had already been paid out and will not be recuperated. DOGE's site does not say if its savings total accounts for the severance expected to be paid to tens of thousands of federal workers who accepted a buyout offer. Those workers, should the offer be honored, will continue being paid through the end of September and would likely nullify any so-called 'savings' from their firings until October. The sharing of DOGE's receipts were initially promised by Friday, but that deadline was pushed back to 'the weekend' and eventually to Monday. DOGE's homepage claims it discovered 'fraud' and included it in its receipts, but no contracts were singled out as fraudulent by the group. It says the figures listed account for approximately 20 percent of 'overall DOGE savings.' A disclaimer on the DOGE site says it plans to eventually publish data 'in a digestible and fully transparent manner with clear assumptions, consistent with applicable rules and regulations.' DOGE has committed to updating the site twice a week and, eventually, to allow for it to display data in real time. For now, users can click on most line items and view the contract that was terminated. Among the cuts identified Monday were $10 million for 'Mozambique voluntary medical male circumcision' and $29,000 for 'Central America Gender Assessment Consultant Services For Forest Service IP.' Musk has been quiet on X about his group's newly-released receipts, but has continued to praise their efforts. That included an incorrect boast that the group had saved near $110 billion—far more than any figure DOGE has claimed itself.
