The Dubai Autism Centre has successfully wrapped up its 19th annual Autism Awareness Campaign, which kicked off in early April under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai. This year's campaign marked a significant milestone with the launch of the region's first Arabic-language podcast studio aimed at fostering deeper understanding and discussions about autism within the Arab world. Mohammed Al Emadi, Director General of the Dubai Autism Centre, highlighted the studio's importance in amplifying the voices of individuals with autism and their families. He expressed gratitude to OP3 Design for their role in creating and sponsoring the studio, which aligns with the UAE's "Year of the Community" initiative. The campaign also featured a series of workshops, reaching over 1,100 schools and institutions across the UAE. Additionally, the Centre announced several autism-friendly destinations in Dubai, including the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library and Union Coop, supporting the city's vision to be a model for inclusion. Key to the campaign was the Centre's continued focus on family support, offering free early screenings for children with autism, along with the release of a guidebook for families and educators. Students from the Centre also participated in the 9th Abu Dhabi University Autism Art Competition, with several winning awards. This year's campaign leveraged extensive digital media engagement, with the campaign's message displayed on over 3,150 screens across the UAE, further spreading awareness about autism and promoting inclusivity. DEWA takes on role of strategic sponsor of the 19th Annual Autism Pre-screening Campaign

Dubai, UAE: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is supporting the 19th Annual Autism Pre-screening Campaign as strategic sponsor. Organised by the Dubai Autism Centre (DAC), the campaign is held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE, and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai. It includes awareness workshops for teachers in Dubai schools and offers free and early diagnosis, and comprehensive assessment sessions for people with autism. 'We support national efforts to make Dubai a city friendly to People of Determination, fostering their inclusion and empowerment, as well as transferring and localising knowledge, and raising awareness of the proper procedures when dealing with this important group of society. This facilitates their integration in society, enabling them to contribute productively and creatively. As a socially responsible and inclusive organisation for People of Determination, we have successfully achieved all strategic indicators in their inclusion and empowerment over five years. Additionally, we won the 'Best People-of-Determination-Friendly Government Entity award' at the 2024 Dubai Government Excellence Awards. We are keen to launch and support inspiring and useful initiatives to further enhance the inclusion of People of Determination in the workplace and society,' said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA. DEWA's sponsorship of the Annual Autism Pre-screening Campaign is part of its efforts to make Dubai a global leader in providing special education programmes and rehabilitation services for people with autism. The campaign aims to empower teachers by equipping them with early diagnosis tools, enabling them to refer children to specialised consultants for thorough assessment. This ensures that children receive timely and appropriate support, significantly improving their developmental skills and abilities.

Campaign launched to raise awareness about autism

Under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, the Dubai Autism Centre launched its 19th month-long Autism Awareness Campaign on April 2 - World Autism Awareness Day. Hisham Abdullah Al Qassim, Chairman of Dubai Autism Centre, stated, 'The message of our campaign this year aligns with the objectives of the 'Year of the Community,' announced by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to reinforce the foundations of an inclusive society that embraces all its diverse segments.' Al Qassim emphasised that supporting and empowering people of determination with autism is a societal responsibility that requires comprehensive collaboration across all sectors to ensure their integration in a way that enables them to realise their full potential and contribute to the path of sustainable development. He expressed his gratitude and appreciation to Sheikh Hamdan for his unstinting support for the campaign, adding that his patronage of the campaign reflects the leadership's commitment to providing an inclusive and sustainable environment for people of determination, ensuring their active participation in society. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) said, 'We are keen to support national efforts to integrate people of determination (POD) into society, in line with the National Policy for Empowering People of Determination launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, with the aim of creating an inclusive society that ensures empowerment and a decent life for people of determination and their families, as well as the 'My Community... A City for Everyone' initiative, launched by Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum to transform Dubai into an accessible city for people of determination. 'Our support for the annual Autism Awareness Campaign 2025, launched by the Dubai Autism Centre, is based on our keenness to contribute to building a community that integrates and consolidates social ties among all segments of society, raising community awareness of autism, integrating autistic POD and supporting their families. This comes in conjunction with the 'Year of Community' in the UAE, under the theme 'Hand in Hand,' which aims to strengthen family and social ties, develop intergenerational relations and creating an inclusive environment that promotes the values of cooperation and belonging.' For his part, Mohammed Al Emadi, Director-General of the Dubai Autism Centre, said, 'Supporting and empowering people of determination with autism is a societal responsibility that requires comprehensive collaboration across all sectors to ensure equal opportunities for them and enable their active participation in society. 'This campaign, therefore, highlights the importance of raising community awareness about the characteristics of individuals with autism and the challenges they face, contributing to the creation of an inclusive environment that meets their needs and helps them achieve their full potential.' In this context, Al Emadi emphasised the importance of educating society about the developmental characteristics of Autism Spectrum Disorder, which primarily affect individuals with autism in three key areas: difficulties in speech and communication, challenges in social interaction, and behavioural issues. He noted that many individuals with autism struggle with expressing themselves and understanding language; they also face difficulties in forming social relationships and interacting with others. Additionally, they may exhibit behavioural challenges, such as repetitive behaviours or resistance to change. This year's campaign features a diverse range of events and activities, including the commemorative illumination of several iconic landmarks in Dubai in blue in celebration of World Autism Awareness Day. Additionally, the campaign will include weekly workshops in schools across the UAE to educate teachers and staff on early detection methods for autism, along with weekly segments on the 'Balsam' show on Noor Dubai TV to raise autism awareness. The Dubai Autism Centre will also offer free early detection and comprehensive assessment sessions for children with autism and developmental disorders. WAM

The initiative will provide autism-friendly kits to help children navigate social settings and public events. Mar 17, 2025 Families of children with autism in Dubai will soon have access to a new tool designed to help manage sensory challenges in public spaces. The Dubai Autism Centre (DAC) has launched an initiative aimed at supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) by providing them with autism-friendly kits, enabling greater participation in social and public events. In line with the 'Year of the Community' and the #RamadanInDubai campaign, the initiative seeks to enhance the inclusion and empowerment of individuals with autism, particularly during significant occasions such as Ramadan and Eid Al-Fitr. It also aligns with the National Policy for Empowering People of Determination and the 'My Community … A City for Everyone' initiative, which aims to make Dubai more accessible and disability-friendly. Parents interested in obtaining the autism-friendly kits can apply through the Dubai Autism Centre's official communication channels. Since its establishment in 2001, the Dubai Autism Centre has been a leading non-profit organisation dedicated to providing specialised educational, psychological, and rehabilitative support for children with autism and their families. In September 2022, the centre introduced the Autism-Friendly Certification Programme (AFCP), the first of its kind in the region, designed to recognise organisations that implement higher accessibility standards for individuals with autism.
