Sharjah Self-Defence takes lead in fifth round opener of Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship
The fifth round of the second edition of the Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship (no-gi) kicked off today (Saturday) at Al Nasr Club in Dubai, attracting wide participation from athletes representing clubs and academies across the UAE. At the end of the opening day, Sharjah Self-Defence Sports Club topped the standings, followed by Al Ain Jiu-Jitsu Club in second place and ADMA in third. The first day featured strong competition in the under-12, under-14, and under-16 categories. Athletes demonstrated high technical levels, quick reactions, and precise execution to amass points under the championship's classification system, designed to ensure fairness and reinforce competitiveness among players and clubs. The day's competitions were attended by H.E. Yousef Abdullah Al Batran, Board Member of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation; H.E. Mishal Abdulkarim Julfar, CEO of the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services; Fawzia Faridoon, Acting Director of Sports Events Department at Dubai Sports Council; Amina Ahmed, Branch Manager of Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank in Muhaisnah; Fahad Al Marzouqi, Branch Manager of Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank in Deira; Dr. Younis Kazim, CEO of Dubai Healthcare Corporation, Dubai Health Authority; Mansoor Al Malik, Executive Director for Policies and Legislation Division at Dubai Custom; Dr. Shamsa bin Hammad, Director of Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services; and Waleed Al Sheibani, Director of Dubai Municipality Club. 'The Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship provides athletes with an ideal opportunity to develop their skills in a professional and competitive environment, while instilling values of discipline, confidence, and commitment. We are confident that the athletes will give their best in a championship that carries such a prestigious name, raising the level of competition and fulfilling the goals of the tournament,' he said. H.E. Mishaal Jalfar, CEO of Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, added, 'We are delighted to be present at such a major event. The importance of jiu-jitsu is clear, not only in promoting self-confidence, determination, and perseverance, but also in its diverse physical benefits. Javid Mohammadzadeh, father of Javad Mohammadzadeh, a Sharjah Self-Defence Sports Club athlete competing in the under-16 60 kg category, said, 'Javad has been practising jiu-jitsu for many years. He chose the sport himself and has a deep passion for it, dedicating long hours to training. Competing in such an important championship gives him a chance to learn, grow, and test himself against athletes of different levels.' The event concludes tomorrow with competitions in the under-18, adult, and master categories.

Dubai Ambulance mobilises for Eid Al Fitr celebrations with citywide emergency coverage
With a comprehensive operational plan, the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services (DCAS) has announced its full preparedness to provide extensive emergency coverage for Eid Al Fitr festivities across the city. The deployment aims to ensure rapid access to medical services and uninterrupted emergency response throughout the holiday period. Ambulance teams will be stationed across Dubai, with coverage extending to Eid prayer grounds, key celebration venues, and all major public events organised in the emirate. The citywide deployment will facilitate continuous, 24-hour service to both residents and visitors during the busy holiday period. 'Our ambulance teams and operations centre are fully equipped to handle emergency calls by land, sea, and air at any hour,' said His Excellency Mishaal Abdulkarim Julfar, Executive Director of DCAS. 'We are working in close coordination with our partners to guarantee the fastest possible response times across the city.' Julfar highlighted that to meet increased demand during the holiday, DCAS has deployed 723 trained personnel across 138 ambulance points. These include a variety of response units, such as standard ambulances, fast response vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles, marine ambulances, and air ambulances, the latter operating in cooperation with the Dubai Police Air Wing Center. Field commanders and supervisors will remain on site around the clock to oversee operations throughout the emirate. In addition to the full readiness of its fleet, Julfar said, ambulance crews will remain on standby to address any emergency situation. Field supply vehicles, support units, and backup resources have been fully mobilised. Medical teams will be strategically placed near residential neighbourhoods, shopping centres, public parks, and labour accommodations. Dubai International Airport terminals, including associated buildings, will also see enhanced coverage in anticipation of increased passenger volume over the holiday. Medical personnel will be stationed around the clock in both arrival and departure lounges to provide immediate care and coordinate transfers in partnership with airport authorities. Julfar reaffirmed DCAS's commitment to delivering flexible, and sustainable ambulance services' that contribute to public well-being and safety. 'This vision,' he noted, 'is supported by expanding the operational capacity of the DCAS fleet, integrating advanced technologies to reduce response times, and leveraging artificial intelligence to improve efficiency in emergency medical services. These enhancements have resulted in consistently high service levels, with DCAS recording a 95.7% customer satisfaction rate in 2024.' He extended his Eid greetings to the community and urged the public to adhere to safety protocols, particularly in mosques, prayer grounds, shopping centres, beaches, pools, parks, and mountainous areas. Dubai teams save four lives in specialised organ transfer operation
The lives of four patients were saved in a specialised organ transfer mission carried out by teams from the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, with medical support from the Dubai Health Authority (DHA). The operation, part of the 'Hayat' programme promoting organ donation, involved coordination with several healthcare and government entities across the country. Organs were transported by helicopter to three hospitals in a safe and timely transfer. The National Centre for Regulating Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation at the Ministry of Health & Prevention oversaw logistical operations, while the DHA provided the necessary medical support, and the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services ensured rapid transportation using a helicopter. Meanwhile, Dubai Police played a pivotal role in securing the transfer process to guarantee the timely arrival of the organs in accordance with the highest medical standards. Mishal Abdul Karim Julfar, Executive Director of the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, praised the collaboration and stressed the importance of raising awareness about organ donation to save lives. Dr Younis Kazim, Acting CEO of the Health Regulation Sector at the DHA, highlighted the country's ongoing efforts to enhance patients' quality of life through pioneering initiatives that promote organ donation, the adoption of cutting-edge medical technologies and protocols, and the establishment of a comprehensive regulatory framework.
