Podz uses Steph analogy to address Giannis-Bucks trade rumors
Podz uses Steph analogy to address Giannis-Bucks trade rumors originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area Wisconsin native Brandin Podziemski is on the Warriors, but he grew up watching Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks. Advertisement So as trade rumors swirl around the two-time NBA MVP, Podziemski understands the gravity of Antetokounmpo potentially leaving Milwaukee — especially since he plays alongside another one-team generational talent in Steph Curry. 'I mean, [it's] the same thing with any player like that, it's like Steph not playing for the Warriors,' Podziemski told Kay Adams on the 'Up & Adams' show Tuesday. 'All guys who cemented their legacy and what they're about in this league with one team, you never expected it to change. The same with Luka Dončić and Dallas [Mavericks], like the whole world is shocked because of the player he is, and you can see how they were building around him. But like I said, it's like any star in the league that stays with one team, you just expect them to be in one jersey and anywhere else just doesn't seem right at all.' The Bay Area likely would riot if Curry left the Warriors, but Dub Nation certainly would welcome Antetokounmpo to Golden State with open arms. However, while Antetokounmpo reportedly met with the Bucks to discuss his and the team's future, it remains unclear if he will request a trade out of Milwaukee even if the Warriors are an intriguing destination. Advertisement Golden State would have to give up plenty for that to happen, and it also views recent addition Jimmy Butler as a subtle superstar who will continue to push the team to new heights next season. For Podziemski, who has played against Antetokounmpo and the Bucks four times in his young NBA career, it's always a full-circle moment to go up against someone whose career arc he has observed from Day 1. In Podziemski's first game back in Milwaukee against the Bucks on Jan. 13, 2024, he shone with 23 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals. 'I saw Giannis get drafted,' Podziemski told Adams. 'I was at a lot of games his rookie year and throughout his development. And so to be on the same court as him, playing against him, competing, it's pretty cool, but it's also kind of a full-circle moment for me, just because I played at Illinois and we played in Marquette, which is in Milwaukee, and I didn't play any minutes that game, and I had a bunch of people that are watching me. 'So to go back there my rookie year and play well and play a lot in front of those same people, it was kind of refreshing for me.' Advertisement Whether or not Antetokounmpo's arc brings him to the Warriors alongside Podziemski — or elsewhere in the league — remains to be seen. Download and follow the Dubs Talk Podcast

Report: Nets not expected to prepare Kuminga offer sheet
Report: Nets not expected to prepare Kuminga offer sheet originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area The Brooklyn Nets aren't expected to prepare Jonathan Kuminga an offer sheet this summer. With the Warriors forward set to become a restricted free agent this offseason, there were several rumors that the Nets would make an offer given their salary-cap situation. However, that doesn't appear to be the case. Advertisement 'There is not a current expectation that the Brooklyn Nets are preparing an offer sheet for Kuminga, but there are signs Brooklyn could be willing to use its open cap space as a vehicle to execute multi-team trade scenarios this summer,' The Athletic's Anthony Slater reported. 'That could open up several avenues and possible suitors for Kuminga, one of the market's most intriguing names. The Warriors' front office, with the help of new cap specialist Jon Phelps, showed some creativity last summer, routing Thompson's departure into a six-team sign-and-trade that delivered Buddy Hield and Kyle Anderson (after generating the space for De'Anthony Melton).' The 22-year-old has all of the physical talents to become an elite NBA player, but he has struggled with consistency during his tenure with the Warriors. With Golden State committed to building around Steph Curry, Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler next season, it doesn't seem likely that Kuminga will fit into those plans. After trading for Butler, Kuminga fell out of the rotation almost entirely, seeing significant game action only after Curry went down with a Grade 1 hamstring strain in the Western Conference Semifinals. Advertisement Given the 22-year-old's contract situation, it's more feasible for a sign-and-trade deal to materialize, and it's possible that Golden State could get some solid players in the exchange. The Warriors selected Kuminga with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft with the expectation that it would take time for him to develop into an elite-level player. While he has flashed brilliance at times, it's clear that the 'two-timeline' approach owner Joe Lacob envisioned isn't working out. With Curry continuing to play at a high level, it's clear that general manager Mike Dunleavy and the rest of the Golden State front office are looking to acquire more complementary pieces to fill out the roster. Only time will tell if Kuminga fits into those plans or not. Download and follow the Dubs Talk Podcast

Steph named to All-NBA Second Team for 2024-25 season originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area Warriors star Steph Curry just added another prestigious accolade to his already decorated resume. Curry earned All-NBA Second Team honors for the 2024-25 season after averaging 24.5 points, 6.0 assists and 4.4 rebounds per game in his 16th professional season. Curry is joined on the Second Team by longtime rival and Los Angeles Lakers icon LeBron James, Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards, New York Knicks offensive spark plug Jalen Brunson and Cleveland Cavaliers big man Evan Mobley, who took home 2024-25 NBA DPOY honors. Advertisement The honor is Curry's 11th career All-NBA selection, highlighting his incredible longevity as he remains one of the league's preeminent talents even at 37 years of age. Curry's focus remains on pursuing a fifth NBA championship, but the individual accolade is cause for celebration as the Warriors superstar continues to reinforce an already ironclad legacy that will see him go down among the greatest players to ever pick up a basketball. What Spoelstra told Kerr about Butler immediately after Warriors trade
What Spoelstra told Kerr about Butler immediately after Warriors trade originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area Despite some concern about how Jimmy Butler would fit into the Warriors' culture, coach Steve Kerr's mind was at ease. Advertisement That's because his good friend and longtime Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra reassured him before Golden State acquired the six-time NBA All-Star at the February trade deadline. 'Erik Spoelstra told me immediately, 'He's going to be great for you.' And I know Spo really well from the last couple of summers and I trust him,' Kerr told Tim Kawakami on 'The TK Show.' 'I believed him and he was right. Within a couple of days of his arrival, Jimmy was so easy to speak with. 'He reminded me of Andre [Iguodala] with the basketball intellect, but also the interest in the world perspective and the maturity. It was really fun to get to know Jimmy right away and to see the impact he had on our team and our locker room.' There was plenty of chatter about Butler's locker room fit in Golden State since the veteran forward's relationship with his previous team, the Heat, and particularly team president Pat Riley, soured. Advertisement Things got so bad that Butler was suspended multiple times by Miami after missing a team flight, walking out of a shootaround, and other actions deemed as 'detrimental' to the team. And given that it wasn't the first time Butler left a team on bad terms, there were reasonable worries for the Warriors. But those concerns immediately were put to rest upon Butler's arrival, as his impact quite literally did the opposite as he provided a rejuvenated energy to Golden State both on and off the floor. His relationship with Buddy Hield in particular warmed the hearts of Dub Nation. 'He was an absolute dream,' Kerr said. 'I know everything that happened in Miami would not have suggested that, but I can only base Jimmy's impact and his personality and all that stuff on my experience. And he was the model citizen. Just an amazing guy to coach these last few months.' Download and follow the Dubs Talk Podcast

Warriors will be ‘incredibly aggressive' retooling roster, per Shams Charania
Warriors will be 'incredibly aggressive' retooling roster, per Shams Charania originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area Steph Curry's Grade 1 hamstring strain proved to be helpful for the Warriors. Advertisement Curry's injury showed coach Steve Kerr and general manager Mike Dunleavy that they need to upgrade the role players on the roster. Without Curry, the Warriors lost four consecutive games and saw their promising 2024-25 NBA season end at the hands of the Minnesota Timberwolves. So, what is the Warriors' offseason plan? ESPN's Shams Charania provided insight into Golden State's mindset. 'The Golden State Warriors have up to four first-round picks they can trade,' Charania said on 'SportsCenter' on Thursday. 'They have tradeable contracts, pick swaps as well. Sources told me in the last few hours, the Warriors will be incredibly aggressive in the marketplace to go find help, to continue to retool around their big three of Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler. Advertisement 'I'm told their priority is finding a play-making wing defender or a center to add to this group. A lot of it will come down to someone that Steve Kerr and the big feel like will help this team and fits their culture and their identity.' In addition to the assets Charania mentioned, the Warriors have 22-year-old forward Jonathan Kuminga, a restricted free agent who they potentially could move in a sign-and-trade to acquire pieces that fit around Curry, Green and Butler. Kuminga was in and out of Kerr's rotation and has had an uneven four years with the Warriors, but the young forward averaged 24.3 points in the four games Curry missed against the Timberwolves Advertisement So, while Kuminga might not fit the Warriors' roster, another team might value him and provide Golden State with the pieces it desires. 'One key player to keep an eye on on this roster right now is forward Jonathan Kuminga,' Charania said. 'I'm told he's going to have a strong sign-and-trade market coming up. He's an exciting young wing player. Both sides are expected to have conversations commencing over the next several weeks ahead of free agency to see, is there a potential sign-and-trade landing spot that gives him a lucrative deal while also potentially bringing the Warriors some additional help for their roster so that both sides end up as winners.' The Warriors' window to win a title with Curry, Green and Butler is closing and the front office understands the team wasn't good enough to win games without their two-time NBA MVP. So, changes around the three superstars are coming this summer. Advertisement Buckle up. Download and follow the Dubs Talk Podcast
