Rob Gronkowski almost joined Ravens in 2010 until Tebow trade changed everything

A draft-day twist cost the Ravens Rob Gronkowski, altering NFL history as the Patriots landed a legendary tight end instead. (Credit: Imagn Images0 The 2010 NFL Draft could have completely rewritten the history books for both the Baltimore Ravens and the New England Patriots . In a twist of fate and a series of last-minute trades, Rob Gronkowski—arguably the greatest tight end the game has ever seen—ended up in Foxborough instead of Baltimore, and the ripple effects from that night are still felt to this day. Ravens were ready to draft Gronk in 2010, but Broncos' Tebow gamble changed everything Baltimore has never lacked talent at the tight end position. Operation Sindoor Operation Sindoor: Several airports in India closed - check full list Did Pak shoot down Indian jets? What MEA said India foils Pakistan's attack on Jammu airport: What we know so far From Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe to Todd Heap, Dennis Pitta, and Mark Andrews, the Ravens have consistently produced elite talent at the position. But in 2010, they were in prime position to draft someone who could have elevated that legacy to historic heights—Rob Gronkowski. Speaking on the Dudes On Dudes podcast, Gronkowski shed light on what could've been a franchise-altering move for the Ravens. 'The Baltimore Ravens were going to pick me, I think it was the 25th pick that they had in the draft,' Gronkowski revealed. 'But then Denver and Josh McDaniels came scooping in and traded with the Baltimore Ravens. The Denver Broncos took Tim Tebow. I just got booted out of the first round.' That trade-out of the 25th spot not only cost the Ravens a shot at Gronkowski in the first round, it set off a chain reaction that ultimately allowed the Patriots to swoop in. 'The Ravens had the 43rd pick now,' Gronkowski continued. 'Well then the New England Patriots got a sniff of it, and they traded one spot before the Baltimore Ravens at No. 42, where I got drafted.' Had Baltimore stayed put, Gronkowski might've been catching passes from Joe Flacco rather than Tom Brady . Instead, the Ravens walked away with defensive end Sergio Kindle at No. 43—who played just three games before injuries derailed his career. While they did eventually draft Dennis Pitta and Ed Dickson later that year, and Pitta became a vital part of their 2012 Super Bowl run, the thought of Gronkowski in purple and black is enough to make Ravens fans wonder 'what if?' Adding to the drama, Gronkowski also claimed, 'I also heard through a grapevine that if I didn't get drafted to the New England Patriots, Greg Olsen was going to get traded that day for a draft pick to the New England Patriots, because the Patriots were looking for a tight end.' The tight end-needy Patriots made their move at just the right time. What followed was a decade of dominance. Paired with Brady, Gronkowski became a four-time Super Bowl champion and one-half of one of the NFL's most iconic duos. It's hard to say if the same would've happened in Baltimore. Would Gronk have reached legendary status with the Ravens? Or would his career have taken a different path without Brady's precision and Belichick's schemes? Fate, as it turned out, had other plans. And the Patriots capitalized. But somewhere in Baltimore's front office, someone still wonders what might have been if Rob Gronkowski had been allowed to fall just one pick further. Julian Edelman reveals what Jordon Hudson really does while defending Bill Belichick CBS interview

Former Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman said the public has treated Jordon Hudson unfairly over her viral interjection during Bill Belichick's recent 'CBS Sunday Morning' interview. Edelman, who was coached by Belichick for his entire 12-year NFL career with the Patriots, explained that he heard Belichick's 24-year-old girlfriend is juggling multiple roles in his professional life and acting as his 'representative' — which explains her interrupting CBS' Tony Dokoupil for asking about their relationship. 'People are giving an unfair reality of what's going on,' Edelman said while discussing Hudson's viral moment on his 'Dudes on Dudes' podcast with former Patriots teammate, Rob Gronkowski. 'Because she was jumping into that conversation during the interview just like any PR person would jump in when there is an unnecessary question that probably didn't go over in the pre-production meeting. Advertisement 'From what I've heard, Jordon is playing the Berj role — handling all the football ops, handling a lot of his social, a lot of his PR,' Edelman said, referring to Berj Najarian, the Patriots' director of football/head coach administration, who was Belichick's right hand man in New England. 'When you look at this situation and you say, 'Oh this is his girlfriend jumping', I think that's unfair. I think she's actually working with Coach Belichick in the professional world and she was probably went and said, 'hey, no were not doing that.' 'She's becoming a representative on top of being his girlfriend. 4 Former Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman weighed in on the fallout from Jordan Hudson's viral moment during Bill Belichick's CBS Sunday Morning interview. They also denied that Hudson was trying to control the conversation and explained that she interjected because Belichick said he agreed to do the interview if it was solely focused on the contents of the book. 4 Jordon Hudson watching Bill Belichick's interview with 'CBS Sunday Morning,' which aired on April 27, 2025. 'We're not talking about this,' Hudson said. In his statement, Belichick said he and Hudson met while on a flight to Palm Beach in 2021. 'When we agreed to speak with Mr. Belichick, it was for a wide-ranging interview,' A CBS News spokesperson said in a statement on Wednesday. 'There were no preconditions or limitations to this conversation. This was confirmed repeatedly with his publisher before the interview took place and after it was completed.'

Rob Gronkowski denies rumors of NFL comeback: 'I wish I still had those powers'

Four-time Super Bowl champion Rob Gronkowski quickly shut down a report that he was considering coming out of retirement a second time. 'Crazy bro," Gronkowski told Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz on Wednesday. "They must know something about me that I don't. I wish I still had those powers, because that would be cool if I did. But I was just in Australia for a few days. Now it's time to relax a little. No football.' The rumors kicked up on Tuesday after a recent episode of the "Dudes On Dudes" podcast, which Gronkowski hosts with Julian Edelman. Gronkowski was talking about how busy he is in retirement and joked that returning to the NFL would be easier. "I was talking with my brother yesterday," Gronkowski said on the podcast, "and I told him, hey, I might as well go back to football because I'm grinding harder than I ever grinded before, and I'm not even playing football. So I might as well go back because playing ball would be easier than what I'm doing over the last six months." A report from claimed on Tuesday that Gronkowski was training for an NFL return, but NFL Network's Ian Rapoport called the rumor "nonsense" shortly after. Gronkowski has been busy, appearing on Fox's "NFL Sunday" show during the season, among other appearances in movies, television and commercials. The five-time Pro Bowler retired after the 2018 season, but came out of retirement to play with quarterback Tom Brady for two seasons, winning a Super Bowl in 2020. He retired again in 2022 after 11 seasons and 92 career touchdowns.
