The 2010 NFL Draft could have completely rewritten the history books for both the
Baltimore Ravens
and the
New England Patriots
. In a twist of fate and a series of last-minute trades, Rob Gronkowski—arguably the greatest tight end the game has ever seen—ended up in Foxborough instead of Baltimore, and the ripple effects from that night are still felt to this day.
Ravens were ready to draft Gronk in 2010, but Broncos' Tebow gamble changed everything
Baltimore has never lacked talent at the tight end position.

From Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe to Todd Heap, Dennis Pitta, and Mark Andrews, the Ravens have consistently produced elite talent at the position. But in 2010, they were in prime position to draft someone who could have elevated that legacy to historic heights—Rob Gronkowski.
Speaking on the Dudes On Dudes podcast, Gronkowski shed light on what could've been a franchise-altering move for the Ravens. 'The Baltimore Ravens were going to pick me, I think it was the 25th pick that they had in the draft,' Gronkowski revealed. 'But then Denver and Josh McDaniels came scooping in and traded with the Baltimore Ravens. The Denver Broncos took Tim Tebow. I just got booted out of the first round.'
That trade-out of the 25th spot not only cost the Ravens a shot at Gronkowski in the first round, it set off a chain reaction that ultimately allowed the Patriots to swoop in. 'The Ravens had the 43rd pick now,' Gronkowski continued. 'Well then the New England Patriots got a sniff of it, and they traded one spot before the Baltimore Ravens at No. 42, where I got drafted.'
Had Baltimore stayed put, Gronkowski might've been catching passes from Joe Flacco rather than
Tom Brady
. Instead, the Ravens walked away with defensive end Sergio Kindle at No. 43—who played just three games before injuries derailed his career. While they did eventually draft Dennis Pitta and Ed Dickson later that year, and Pitta became a vital part of their 2012 Super Bowl run, the thought of Gronkowski in purple and black is enough to make Ravens fans wonder 'what if?'
Adding to the drama, Gronkowski also claimed, 'I also heard through a grapevine that if I didn't get drafted to the New England Patriots, Greg Olsen was going to get traded that day for a draft pick to the New England Patriots, because the Patriots were looking for a tight end.'
The tight end-needy Patriots made their move at just the right time. What followed was a decade of dominance. Paired with Brady, Gronkowski became a four-time Super Bowl champion and one-half of one of the NFL's most iconic duos. It's hard to say if the same would've happened in Baltimore. Would Gronk have reached legendary status with the Ravens? Or would his career have taken a different path without Brady's precision and Belichick's schemes?
Fate, as it turned out, had other plans. And the Patriots capitalized. But somewhere in Baltimore's front office, someone still wonders what might have been if
Rob Gronkowski
had been allowed to fall just one pick further.

Gautam Gambhir Returns To India From England Due To Medical Emergency: Report
Last Updated: Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir has reportedly returned home from England days before the Tendulkar-Anderson trophy due to a family emergency. Indian men's head coach Gautam Gambhir has reportedly been forced to return to India from England due to a medical emergency just days before the start of the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy on June 20. According to Sportstar, his mother, Seema, has suffered a cardiac arrest and is currently in Intensive Care. Gambhir reached England with the team on June 7. This is his fourth Test series as the head coach. He reportedly missed India's net session on June 12, too, and is no longer with the squad. The date of his possible return is currently uncertain, though some reports say he might come back by next week. Gambhir's return comes on the day of India's intra-squad game. The match, likely to be played between teams drawn from the senior and India 'A' squads, will be played behind closed doors in Leeds, i.e., it won't be broadcast or streamed, and a scorecard is unlikely to be available either. According to news agency PTI, assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate will assume the charge for the match. Bowling coach Morne Morkel and batting coach Sitanshu Kotak will assist him. It's the last bit of red-ball preparation for several first-time members, who are coming straight from the IPL. The first Test will be played in Headingley from next Friday. Earlier, Gambhir gave a stirring motivational speech to his young team about moving on from the retirements of greats like Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin, and previous captain Rohit Sharma. 'All I want to say is there are two ways of looking at this group. One is that we are without our three most experienced players, or we've got this phenomenal opportunity to do something special," Gambhir said in a video shared by the BCCI, which was shot before his departure. 'And when I look around this group, the hunger, the passion and the commitment to do something special… If we make sacrifices, if we come out of our comfort zones, if we start fighting, not every day, but every session, every hour and every ball, I think we can have a memorable tour. So make sure we start that today. Start enjoying playing for the country because there's no bigger honour," he added. First Published:

Manipur's Suman eager to cement her place in the Indian women's hockey team
As the Indian women's hockey team begins their European leg of FIH Pro League against Australia at Lee Valley Hockey & Tennis Centre in London on Saturday, one player who will be more than eager to showcase her skills is Manipur's Suman Devi Thoudam. After breaking into the senior team as a teenager way back in 2017 during a Test series against Belarus in Bhopal under the then coach Sjoerd Marijne, she went onto play 12 matches including the 2018 Asian Champions Trophy where India finished second behind South Korea. She played few more games after that but couldn't ever cement her place in the squad and last played during the 2022 Pro League against the Netherlands in Bhubaneswar. However, she has made a comeback into the squad after three years and made her presence felt during India's tour of Australia last month where the Harendra Singh-coached side played five matches and won one. Speaking about her return, Suman said, "During the first game, I felt a bit nervous. But I had played under Harendra sir earlier and he gave me a lot of confidence. Sushila Chanu has also supported me a lot at the camp." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Buy Brass Idols - Handmade Brass Statues for Home & Gifting Luxeartisanship Buy Now Undo And the person who was the happiest seeing her return to the team was her father. A hockey player himself during his youth at the local club level, Thoudam Anand Singh used to wear his daughter's jersey and proudly stroll around the neighbourhood. "He stopped doing it though after I was dropped from the team. He had told me then that he would wear them after I made it to the team again," added Suman. A carpenter by profession till a few years back, Anand, hopefully, has started wearing them now and will be watching the Pro League games from Imphal home, where he resides along with his wife. However, this remarkable return wouldn't have been possible but for the coaches at National Centre of Excellence (NCOE) in Delhi, who gave Suman all the support she needed. "After I was dropped from the squad, I trained hard and worked a lot on my fitness but never did I feel that hockey was over for me. I obviously felt sad but I kept telling myself that I have enough time in my hands to make a comeback," added Suman, who also landed a job in Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) in 2022, much to the relief of her family. This struggle though wasn't anything compared to when she first came to Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy in 2014 and struggled to get accustomed. "I couldn't understand Hindi even a bit, I used to feel nervous and scared, felt like crying and wanted to go back home," recollected the defender, who also led the U-21 side in two invitational meets in 2019. Luckily she persevered and today she has another chance to prove to everybody what she is capable of. And what better opponents to do it against than Australia. ‘Will miss…': Barry Sanders predicts the Detroit Lions' NFL future amid recent success
NFL legend Barry Sanders believes that the Detroit Lions are still capable of making it to the Super Bowl despite losing both the offensive and defensive play-callers who have been instrumental in their recent success. Talking to Newsweek about his upcoming documentary 'The Making of a Heart Attack', Sanders opened up about his feelings for the Lions, a team with which he made his Hall of Fame career. Barry Sanders said that while the team would certainly miss both Aaron Glenn and Ben Johnson, but added that the nucleus of the team is capable of taking them over the line. 'They were a big part of our success. We know what both those guys are made of, you know. I feel the nucleus and the important ingredients were what we were able to do here. It's mostly still here. We certainly will miss Aaron Glenn and Ben Johnson, but we feel like the pieces we have on offense and defense, you know, with Hutchinson coming back, you look at kids like Brian Branch. And you know, Alim McNeill, the list goes on and on. Jared Goff, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jahmyr Gibbs, David Montgomery, Laporta,' Barry Sanders said. The legendary running back called the current batch of Detroit Lions players a 'solid group' and hopes they can repeat the team's success in recent years. I mean, it's a solid group. And so if we can stay healthy, we should see similar results that we've seen the last couple of years," he said. NFL legend Barry Sanders is back at work to inspire people once again by sharing his health struggle in an upcoming interview. The 56-year-old Sanders had gone public with a heart-related "health scare" during Father's Day weekend last June.
