‘Dudiyona Ba' campaign launched in Mysuru to prevent labour migration in summer

Mysuru: The 'Dudiyona Ba' campaign was launched in Mysuru district to prevent migration of labourers during summer. The initiative aims to provide continuous employment to rural people under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme, offering work locally to those who would otherwise migrate to cities during the harsh summer. Following govt directives, the campaign will be conducted in all gram panchayats for a month, allowing eligible labourers to gain employment through the MGNREGA scheme . The campaign will inform eligible workers about the scheme and provide 100 days of unskilled work under MGNREGA in all GPs, officials said. Eligible families must possess a job card under the MGNREGA scheme. Individuals over 18 yrs in rural areas can apply at their local panchayat office to obtain a job card. Subsequently, labourers must submit a work application to the GP to receive group work. The campaign aims to identify eligible families and vulnerable groups not covered by the MGNREGA scheme, providing them with continuous unskilled work to reduce migration tendencies. The campaign seeks to increase participation from vulnerable families, the differently-abled, women, and gender minorities. The daily wage for workers under the MGNREGA scheme was increased to Rs 370 from April 1. The scheme provides equal pay for men and women, and families with a job card can undertake personal projects worth up to Rs 5 lakh. Under the MGNREGA scheme, work opportunities are available in desilting ponds, developing canals, roadside tree planting, agricultural forestry, school development, Anganwadi, rural roads, and drainage projects. Awareness about these opportunities will be raised during the campaign. "The primary goal of MGNREGA is to prevent migration in rural areas by providing work to labourers. The success of the 'Dudiyona Ba' campaign depends on rural people making good use of it, just like the successful Stree Chetana campaign. By creating individual or group work opportunities, the campaign supports job creation in one's locality. Rural residents should take advantage of this initiative," called ZP chief executive officer S Ukesh Kumar. "Both male and female labourers can benefit from it. The campaign is ready to accept work demands and provide jobs through the panchayats," said M Krishnaraju, ZP deputy secretary (development).

‘Dudiyona Ba' campaign launched in Mysuru to prevent rural migration during summer

'Dudiyona Ba' campaign aimed at preventing migration of labourers from rural parts of the State during summer has been launched in Mysuru by the Zilla Panchayat. Under the campaign 'Dudiyona Ba', which is translated as 'Let's Work', the daily wage labourers, who are unable to find work in the rural areas in the absence of rains, will be provided with work locally under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). The Zilla Panchayat had launched the campaign in the summer months that often witnesses migration of labour from rural areas to urban areas. If sowing activity is not taken up in the agricultural fields due to absence of rains, the families dependent on daily wages, are unable to find work for their livelihood. 'To help those who migrate to cities for work in the scorching summer, the Zilla Panchayat has launched the 'Let's Work' campaign to ensure continuous employment for rural people under the MGNREGA in their villages. As per the government instructions, this campaign will be conducted across all gram panchayats for a month. All eligible labourers can secure employment under the MGNREGA,' said a statement issued by the Mysuru Zilla Panchayat here on Tuesday. The campaign will also serve to raise awareness about the MGNREGA scheme that aims to provide 100 days of unskilled work to labourers, the statement said. How to Get Work Persons above the age of 18 years in rural areas, who are eligible for work under the MGNREGA, must compulsorily possess a job card, which can be obtained by applying to their respective gram panchayat office. After receiving the job card, the labourers can apply for work and join the group tasks in their areas. 'Under the 'Dudiyona Ba' campaign, eligible families, which had not yet been included in the scheme, will be identified and registered as labourers. They will be given continuous work so that migration is reduced. The campaign also aims to increase the participation of vulnerable communities, including persons with disabilities, women and gender minorities,' the statement said. The statement pointed out that daily wages under MGNREGA had been increased to ₹370 with effect from April 1 of financial year 2025-26. 'Both men and women receive equal pay under the scheme,' the statement said. Under MGNREGA, labourers can work on projects like desilting lakes, developing canals, planting trees along roadsides, agro-forestry, rural roads, drainage, besides works at schools and anganwadis. Chief Executive Officer of Mysuru Zilla Panchayat S. Yukesh Kumar said the main goal of MGNREGA is to provide employment to labourers in rural areas and prevent migration. 'This campaign helps generate personal or collective employment in a place where people live, and the rural people should make full use of this opportunity,' he said. Deputy Secretary (Development), Mysuru Zilla Panchayat, M. Krishnaraju said requests for employment will be collected and work will be facilitated through gram panchayats during the campaign.
