Durin riverbank reclamation completed, beautification works to follow

SIBU (May 30): The land reclamation works at the Durin riverbank have been completed, paving the way for upcoming beautification efforts aimed at transforming the area into a vibrant recreational and event space for local residents.
Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Dudong Division chairman Datuk Teo Boon Siew confirmed the completion of the reclamation works, which were funded through an allocation by Dudong assemblyman, Dato Seri Tiong King Sing.
He said the next phase would focus on landscaping and installing recreational facilities to enhance the riverbank's appeal.
'Once the reclamation is complete, this area will be more attractive and can serve as a suitable venue for various annual water-based events in Durin, including speedboat races.
'At the same time, it also provides a good recreational space for residents. This will, in turn, enhance the overall status of Durin Town,' he told reporters today.
Teo added that the reclaimed land offers residents a better space for gatherings and leisure, significantly elevating the status of Durin Town.
To further develop the site, he has submitted a request for a RM5 million allocation from the Sarawak government through the Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC).
The Durin riverbank project has already been approved and partial funding has been disbursed to kickstart the initiative.
Teo thanked Tiong for supporting the project and reiterated his hope that the remaining phases would be implemented swiftly, bringing Durin in line with other towns along the Rajang River that already enjoy well-developed riverfront facilities. Durin riverbank PDP Sibu Teo Boon Siew
