SIBU (May 30): The land reclamation works at the Durin riverbank have been completed, paving the way for upcoming beautification efforts aimed at transforming the area into a vibrant recreational and event space for local residents.
Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Dudong Division chairman Datuk Teo Boon Siew confirmed the completion of the reclamation works, which were funded through an allocation by Dudong assemblyman, Dato Seri Tiong King Sing.
He said the next phase would focus on landscaping and installing recreational facilities to enhance the riverbank's appeal.
'Once the reclamation is complete, this area will be more attractive and can serve as a suitable venue for various annual water-based events in Durin, including speedboat races.
'At the same time, it also provides a good recreational space for residents. This will, in turn, enhance the overall status of Durin Town,' he told reporters today.
Teo added that the reclaimed land offers residents a better space for gatherings and leisure, significantly elevating the status of Durin Town.
To further develop the site, he has submitted a request for a RM5 million allocation from the Sarawak government through the Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC).
The Durin riverbank project has already been approved and partial funding has been disbursed to kickstart the initiative.
Teo thanked Tiong for supporting the project and reiterated his hope that the remaining phases would be implemented swiftly, bringing Durin in line with other towns along the Rajang River that already enjoy well-developed riverfront facilities. Durin riverbank PDP Sibu Teo Boon Siew

e-Invoice Implementation For Revenue Below RM5 Mln Deferred To Jan 1, 2026

KUALA LUMPUR, June 5 (Bernama) -- The Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) today announced that the implementation phase for e-invoices for taxpayers with annual income or sales exceeding RM1 million but not exceeding RM5 million has been postponed to Jan 1, 2026. In a statement here, LHDN also announced that taxpayers with an annual income or sales below RM500,000 are exempted from the implementation of the e-Invoice system. "The implementation phase for taxpayers with annual income or sales up to RM1 million has been postponed to July 1, 2026," LHDN said. The board added that the decision was made after the government recognised the commitments of taxpayers, particularly Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), in meeting e-invoice legal requirements, which necessitate adequate preparation time and face numerous implementation challenges. The statement said that, in line with this decision, a new timeline for the e-invoice implementation phases has been established with Phase 3 targeting taxpayers with annual income or sales exceeding RM5 million but not exceeding RM25 million coming into effect on July 1, 2025. LHDN noted that Phase 4 will involve taxpayers with annual incomes or sales exceeding RM1 million up to RM5 million and will begin on Jan 1, 2026 while Phase 5 will cover the income group of up to RM1 million and will commence on July 1, 2026. The previously announced six-month grace period will also apply to these new phases, the agency said. It stressed that during this period, taxpayers will be permitted to issue consolidated e-invoices for all transactions, including self-billed e-invoices. Necessary details, it said, can be included in the 'Product or Service Description' field.

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA: Eight students from Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) pleaded not guilty at the Kuala Terengganu magistrates' court today to severely injuring a fellow student last year. Berita Harian reported that the students, aged 21 to 23, made their pleas after the charges against them were read before magistrate Iffah Nabihah Ishak. They were charged with voluntarily causing grievous hurt to the 21-year-old victim in a dormitory on the UMT campus between 1.30am and 5am on Dec 15, 2024. The charges were made under Section 325 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same code, which provide for up to seven years' imprisonment and a fine upon conviction. The court set July 6 for re-mention of the case and allowed bail of RM5,000 for all eight accused. The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutors Azizan Abdullah, Nur Nabihah Hanin Ayim, and Nur Aisyah Mohamad, while the accused were represented by a lawyer from the National Legal Aid Foundation. In December, police arrested 12 UMT students in connection with an assault on a fellow student. Acting Kuala Terengganu police chief Wan Zaki Wan Ismail said the arrests followed a report from a man claiming that his 20-year-old son had been assaulted in the university's dormitory. 'The victim informed his father of the assault by phone at 10.50pm on Dec 15 while the complainant was at home in Melaka. 'The victim also sent several photos showing injuries to various parts of his body,' he said. The victim's father took his son to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital for treatment, where the attending medical officer confirmed bruises and internal injuries from blunt force trauma to the victim's arms, waist, chest, abdomen, and leg. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Court to hear Muhyiddin's reference bid on August 28

Published on: Wednesday, June 04, 2025 Published on: Wed, Jun 04, 2025 By: Ho Kit Yen, FMT Text Size: Former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin is accused of making seditious statements during the Nenggiri by-election in Gua Musang, Kelantan, last year. (Bernama pic) Kuala Lumpur: The High Court here will hear Muhyiddin Yassin's bid to refer legal questions to the apex court on the validity of certain provisions under the Sedition Act on Aug 28. The former prime minister is accused of making seditious statements during the Nenggiri by-election in Gua Musang, Kelantan, last year. Justice Jamil Hussin fixed the date after lawyer Joshua Tay, appearing for Muhyiddin, told the court that the defence and prosecution had agreed on the date. The court then instructed the prosecution and defence to file their submissions by Aug 14. Deputy public prosecutor Razali Che Ani appeared for the prosecution. Muhyiddin allegedly said he was not invited by the then Yang di-Pertuan Agong to be sworn in as prime minister following the 2022 general election, despite having obtained the majority support of 115 MPs. If found guilty, the Perikatan Nasional chairman and Bersatu president will face a jail term that could extend to three years or a maximum fine of RM5,000. Muhyiddin was initially charged at the Gua Musang sessions court in August last year. On Nov 27, Justice Azmi Abdullah allowed his application to have the case transferred to the Kuala Lumpur High Court. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
