1980s TV power couple spotted on Aran Islands ferry as iconic stars pose with staff
Today at 04:53 Eighties television royalty have been spotted in Galway this week as they hopped aboard a ferry headed for the Aran Islands. Famous US actors Patrick Duffy and Linda Purl were in the west of Ireland on Tuesday as the pair headed out to Inis Mór via Aran Island Ferries. Patrick, who is best known for his role as Bobby Ewing on iconic TV drama Dallas, and Linda, who gained fame for her part as Fonzie's girlfriend in Happy Days, posed alongside ferry staff who welcomed them onboard. The famous couple, who have been together since 2020, looked delighted to be there despite the grey skies as they beamed alongside staff. Sharing a snap of the moment on social media, starstruck staff captioned the photo, 'Welcome to Inis Mór Patrick Duffy and Linda Purl!' Patrick and Linda's love story began under lockdown over four years ago. Duffy was married to ballet dancer Carlyn Rosser from 1974 until her death in 2017. After Rosser's death, the actor wasn't sure he would find love again — until he reconnected with Purl. Purl and Duffy were casual friends years ago but subsequently lost touch. However, it was the COVID-19 pandemic that brought them back together after being in the same group text chain. Their love blossomed over subsequent video calls. Duffy would read poems to Purl over Zoom and one night he professed his love to the actress as they said their goodbyes. He explained, 'One night, as we were signing off, I said, 'Sleep tight, I love you.' I pushed the off button and went, 'Oh my god. I said the L-word!'' The couple have since collaborated to create their very own sourdough starter company, Duffy's Dough, born out of the same wild Alaskan sourdough starter that's been part of Patrick's family for generations. Patrick, whose grandfather emigrated from Ireland to America in the 1920s, visited Ireland in the summer of 2022 with Linda, to trace his own Irish roots in Kilmovee, Co Mayo. Fittingly, Patrick was born on the global day of Irish celebration on March 17, and throughout his life he has always maintained a deep pride and interest in his Irish heritage. Born in Townsend, Montana, in 1949, the son of tavern owners Marie and Terence Duffy, Patrick got his big break in 'Man From Atlantis' before achieving global success playing Bobby Ewing in the much-loved CBS prime time American soap opera Dallas. In 2023 he had the honour of being the grand marshal at Dublin's St Patrick's Day parade. Speaking at the time, Patrick Duffy said: 'Nothing gives me more pride than being asked to be guest of honour at this year's St Patrick's Day Parade in Dublin. 'I can feel my grandfather's joy in my returning to his homeland to represent the Duffys and express our gratitude for all this great country has given us. I feel like I am returning home and want to meet my extended family.'
