Shimla: A pilgrim from North 24-Parganas has been found dead near Gauri Kund in Himachal Pradesh's Kinnaur district. Police identified the deceased as Dukhi Ram Sarkar (38), a resident of south Dum Dum. He was last seen near the peak of Kinnaur Kailash, at an altitude of 4,800 metres. Sarkar went missing on August 7. His disappearance triggered an intensive search along the treacherous trekking route. A quick reaction team eventually recovered the body at Gauri Kund on Friday. The Kinnaur Kailash Yatra began on July 15 and will conclude on August 30. So far this year, three pilgrims have died during the pilgrimage, while more than 1,100 stranded participants have been rescued by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and district police. Each day, 350 pilgrims are allowed to undertake the Yatra. 1 2 Shimla: The body of a pilgrim form West Bengal, who had gone missing on the Kinner Kailash Yatra on Aug 7, was found near Gauri Kund on Sunday, said police in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh. While Gauri Kund is know as the base camp of the Kedarnath trek in Uttarakhand, a site with a similar name is located on the Kinner Kailash route. Police said they had informed the family of the deceased man, Dukhi Ram Sarkar (38), who hailed from South Dumdum, North 24 Parganas district in West Bengal. The police's declaration of finding the body came on a day the Kiratpur-Manali highway was opened to traffic at landslide-prone zones in Mandi district, even as 359 roads remained blocked. According to the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC), 214 roads are blocked in Mandi district, 91 in Kullu, 22 in Kangra, 13 in Shimla, seven in Una, six in Sirmaur, and four in Solan district. A total of 520 water supply schemes also remained affected in the state, with the highest 367 in Kullu district, followed by 78 in Mandi, and 72 in Kangra district.
