Dhanbad MP Dulu Mahto Urges PM Modi to Establish Airport in Dhanbad
Dhanbad: Dhanbad MP Dulu Mahto has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to set up an airport in Dhanbad during a courtesy meeting in New Delhi earlier this week, he said on Saturday. Mahto handed over a memorandum seeking an airport and claimed Dhanbad's air-connectivity was the need of the hour. Mahto, who returned to Dhanbad on Saturday from the ongoing monsoon session of Lok Sabha, claimed Modi patiently heard him and assured to take necessary steps. "Though it was a courtesy meeting, I seized the opportunity to fulfill the long-awaited demand of the people of Dhanbad," Mahto said. He was accompanied by his wife, Savitri Devi, during the meeting. Underlining the importance of including Dhanbad in the UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) scheme, Mahto suggested Satnagri village in Tundi block as a suitable site for the airport. In his memorandum, Mahto highlighted that Dhanbad had commercial flight services connecting Kolkata, Ranchi, and Patna during the early 1980s. However, these services were discontinued in 1988, leaving the district without any direct air link for decades. Notably, Deoghar airport was set up under the Centre's UDAN scheme while the work for Bokaro airport is currently underway. Mahto said Dhanbad had various PSUs and reputed institutions such as the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research. Four-lane road in Bokaro gets Union govt approval
Bokaro: In a move set to strengthen Bokaro's industrial and regional connectivity, the Union govt has approved the four-lane road from Sector-6 Shastri Chowk to Telmocho. The 5.965-km stretch, sanctioned under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) for the 2024–25 financial year, will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 62.2 crore. The project received approval from Union Road Transport and Highways minister Nitin Gadkari following a proposal submitted by Dhanbad MP Dulu Mahto. The road is expected to ease vehicular movement, reduce congestion, and boost logistics efficiency between Bokaro and surrounding rural areas, including better access to Dhanbad. MP Dulu Mahto said, "This isn't just a road, it's a corridor of progress. The long-standing demand of the people has finally been addressed, and it will pave the way for faster economic growth in the region."
