Russia attacks Odesa again with attack drones, explosion reported in city
The Russian army once again attacked Odesa with attack drones on the night of 13-14 April, and explosions were heard in the city. Casualties reported following explosion at police station in Odesa Oblast
Editor's note: This is a developing story and is being updated. An explosion occurred at a police station in Odesa Oblast on March 23, reported regional police officials. A woman has died as a result of the explosion and there are additional casualties, police officials added. According to a source that spoke to local Odesa publication Dumska, an unknown individual allegedly brought a package with an improvised explosive device to the police department in the city of Bilyaivka. The Kyiv Independent cannot verify the reported claims. Additional details are still being confirmed and will be released as they become available. Police and security forces are working at the scene. While the cause of the explosion is yet to be formally established, Odesa Oblast has been subject to repeated Russian attacks in recent days. On March 21, a massive Russian drone attack on Odesa Oblast injured three people, including children, and damaged civilian infrastructure. The day prior, Russia hit Odesa with drones while Czech President Petr Pavel was visiting the city. Odesa Oblast is situated in southwestern Ukraine, along the Black Sea, and has been a frequent target of Russian drone and missile attacks throughout the full-scale war. Russian missile attack on Odesa damages civilian foreign vessel, casualties reported
A Russian ballistic missile struck the Odesa port on the evening of March 1, damaging port infrastructure as well as a foreign civilian ship flying the flag of Panama, Odesa Oblast Governor Oleh Kiper reported. Two port employees were as a results of the attack. No information was available as to the extent of their injuries. The Swiss-owned container ship MSC LEVANTE F sailed into the port earlier in the day, local Odesa publication Dumska reported. No information was immediately available as to what the vessel was carrying, or the extent of the damage. Foreign vessels have previously been damaged in Russian attacks on the port. In October 2024, multiple ships had been on the Odesa port. President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Nov. 23 at the International Conference on Food Security in Kyiv that Russia has damaged 321 port infrastructure facilities, as well as 20 foreign merchant vessels since July 2023. Traveling along the Black Sea route, ships are regularly at risk of being attacked by Russia. Since the beginning of the all-out war, mines have also been drifting along the trade route, which also poses a risk to maritime transport. As a major grain producer, Ukraine exports about 6 million tons of grain per month through ports along the Black Sea. Following an initial blockade at the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, Russia unilaterally the Black Sea grain deal last year forcing Kyiv to set up a new export route in the Black Sea. Russians strike at Odesa port, injuring staff and damaging foreign vessel

At 19:23, Oleh Kiper reported that an explosion was heard in the city. The Dumska news agency later reported that the explosion damaged the Bristol Hotel.
