Oman launches road safety campaign for khareef visitors
By OUR CORRESPONDENT
Salalah – Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) has launched a road safety awareness campaign called 'Dumtum Salimeen' to promote safe travel to Dhofar during khareef. The campaign is aimed at motorists, including families and visitors from Gulf Cooperation Council countries, who travel by road to Salalah.
The initiative focuses on raising awareness about using recommended road routes and avoiding unsafe alternatives, particularly those passing through remote oil concession areas. MTCIT emphasised that while such routes may appear shorter, these lack essential services and pose safety risks, especially for families.
The campaign advises drivers to take the Sultan Said bin Taimur Road (Adam-Haima-Thumrait), the main dual carriageway to Dhofar, which is equipped with the necessary infrastructure and is used by the majority of travellers.
The Dumtum Salimeen campaign also aims to build public confidence in the preparedness of Oman's road infrastructure and highlight the government's ongoing efforts to maintain and enhance road safety. Special attention is being paid to travellers entering through border crossings such as Hafeet and Rub al Khali, with targeted messaging for those arriving from neighbouring GCC countries.
MTCIT affirmed that the campaign is part of its broader strategy to promote road safety and ensure a secure travel environment during khareef, which witnesses a significant surge in road traffic towards Dhofar.
