Dundee Township Park District will offer demonstrations of two of the programs it offers prior to its 7 p.m. Tuesday summer concerts in July. Each will start at 6 p.m. and last 45 minutes. They include: For the full schedule of concerts, go to The School District U-46 summer theater production of 'Man of La Mancha' will run Thursday through Saturday, June 26-28, at the Streamwood High School auditorium, 701 W. Schaumburg Road. More than 75 students and employees from across the district's five high schools make up the cast, musicians and technical crew for the musical, according to a U-46 newsletter. Showtimes are 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday and noon Saturday. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online through Booktix or at the door. The Janus Theatre Company opens its 27th season with 'The Ibsen Project: Hedda,' running Friday through Sunday, June 27-29, at the Elgin Arts Showcase, 164 Division St. Actors will perform Ibsen's 'Hedda Gabler' with scripts in hand, according to the Janus website. For an added twist, each performance will feature a different translation of the Norwegian playwright's work. The production is part of this year's 'Season of Outsiders' and features classic stories from the past brought to life for today's audiences, the website said. It is sponsored in part by the city of Elgin and Elgin Cultural Arts Commission. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 6 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $10. Canterfield Park, featuring a playground, exercise equipment, baggo/cornhole area, walking trail, benches and parking lot, has opened in West Dundee. Located at Route 31 and Boncosky Road, the playground is surrounded by a fence to protect children from traffic, Dundee Township Park District Executive Director Dave Peterson said. A pedestrian crosswalk to reach the park has an activation button for safety that emits flashing lights, similar to the one on Huntley Road by the Raceway Woods Forest Preserve, Peterson said. The park was designed by the Hitchcock Design Group and funded by the village of West Dundee using a $400,000 Illinois Department of Natural Resources Open Space Land Acquisition & Development grant, $350,000 in TIF funding and $150,000 in developer contributions, Village Manager Joe Cavallaro said. The Villages at Canterfield, a 352-unit apartment complex, is located just south of the facility. A Flag Day ceremony will be held at 4:30 p.m. Friday, June 13, at Veterans Memorial Park, 729 S. McLean Blvd., behind the downtown Gail Borden Public Library in downtown Elgin. The event is being organized by Elks Lodge No. 737 with the assistance of American Legion Post 57, the city of Elgin and Elgin Township. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to ensure seating and access, according to an online announcement for the event. Gail Borden public libraries closed Friday for staff training Gail Borden Public Library District buildings in Elgin will be closed Friday, May 2, for staff training, reopening for regular 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday hours the following day, according to a social media post. The federation was formed in 1993 by 75 martial arts masters from around the world to unify the community and work together toward world peace, according to the group's website. Garrison is the owner and operator of Barrington Tiger Academy, a traditional, family-focused mixed martial arts school that opened in 1984. He is an 11-time black Belt Grand Champion, whose career includes induction into the Asian Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 2016, Action Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 2015, USA Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 2008 and World Mudo Federation Hall of Fame in 2006.
