Waterford gardaí investigate assault on man in Dungarvan
Gardaí in Waterford had a busy August bank holiday weekend across the city and county, with Spraoi in the city and the All Together Now Festival in Currgahmore Estate. Generally both events were without significant reported incidents, said crime prevention officer, Sgt Deirdre O'Neill. 'There were arrests for public order, drunkenness offences and an increased number of detected offences for possession of controlled drugs throughout the city and county.' In one incident, an alleged assault was reported in Dungarvan town, on O'Connell Street. The male victim was assaulted on Saturday night or Sunday morning, August 2-3, when he was collecting food at a takeaway at about 1.20am. Any member of the public who was in the area or who has dashcam footage can contact Dungarvan Garda Station on 058 48600.

Tributes paid to ‘lovely quiet man' (26) who died in Waterford motorcycle accident
James Powers' funeral wll take place on Monday, August 4 at 11am. Tributes have been paid to a young motorcyclist who lost his life in a single vehicle accident in County Waterford on Wednesday. James (Jimmy) Power (26) from Sleveen, Kill died in the single vehicle incident which occurred on the R675 at Ballinahilla near Bonmahon on July 30. It happened at approximately 11.45pm on Wednesday night. Locals said Jimmy was 'a lovely quiet man who loved motorbikes'. James Power. News in 90 Seconds, Friday August 1 One local said: ''Deepest condolences to you John Breda and family we were deeply saddened to hear of the sad passing of your beloved son Jimmy we are thinking and praying for you all in this very sad time may god give you strength in these very dark days he was such a lovely quiet young man. James is survived by his parents John and Breda, brothers Nicholas, John and Paddy, sisters Rebecca, Shauna, Ann-Marie, Louise, Olivia and Helen, daughter Aria, extended family and friends. His remains will be reposing at Thompson's Funeral Home, Barrack Street, Waterford on Saturday from 2pm to 5pm with vigil prayers and rosary at 4pm. Funeral will arrive at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Kill on Monday August 4 for Mass at 11am followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery. Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed Wednesday night's collision to contact them. Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 11pm and midnight are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí. Motorcyclist (20s) dies in Waterford collision
A man (20s) has died in a single-vehicle motorcycle collision in Co Waterford on Wednesday night. The collision occurred near Bunmahon, on the R675 at Ballinahilla, Co Waterford, at around 11.45pm Advertisement The motorcyclist, a man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was removed to the morgue at University Hospital Waterford, where a post-mortem examination is due to take place. The road remained closed on Thursday morning to facilitate a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Gardaí have appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them. Anyone who may have camera footage, including dash cam, and was travelling in the area between 11pm and 12am midnight has been asked to make their footage available to investigating gardaí.
