Content creator fined RM1,800 for dressing and behaving like a woman in Melaka
MELAKA: A male social media content creator was fined RM1,800 by the Lower Syariah Court in Ayer Keroh here after pleading guilty to two charges of dressing and behaving like a woman.
Judge Amirrudin Abdul Latip meted out the sentence after the accused, Muhammad Hakim Noraji, 25, pleaded guilty to both charges in a case prosecuted by Syariah Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Faizul Ashar on Monday (July 7).
The accused, who was unrepresented, was charged with wearing attire and behaving like a woman in a public place without reasonable justification.
The offences took place at two different locations, between midnight and 3am on June 10 at the A'Famosa building and at about 1.30am on Monday in front of the Dunia Melayu Dunia Islam building at Jalan Kota, here.
Both locations are in Banda Hilir, within the Melaka Tengah district.
The charge was framed under Section 72 of the Syariah Criminal Offences (State of Melaka) Enactment 1991, which prohibits men from behaving in a manner deemed feminine.
The offence carries a fine up to RM1,000 or a maximum of six months' imprisonment.
The court imposed a fine RM850 for the first offence, with an alternative of one month's imprisonment if he fails to pay and RM950 for the second offence.
The accused, who was unmarried, subsequently paid the fines.
