Elden Ring: Nightreign's Duo Mode Is Coming to Save You From Matchmaking Hell

Elden Ring: Nightreign, from developer FromSoftware, at first seemed like a gimmicky spinoff of its 2022 hit Elden Ring. Since then, it's proven to be a popular game that was the best-selling title in June, and in a few days, it's going to get one of its most requested features. In Nightreign, you can play solo or in a team of three. On July 30, the option for Duo Expeditions will be available, letting players take on runs with a friend. Players have been requesting a two-player mode since Nightreign came out. Modders even went so far as to release a mod to add the feature to the PC version of the game just days after it launched. Adding the Duo option means no longer needing to find a third player via matchmaking. As is the case with any online matchmaking, you never know if you'll get a competent player. There's also no voice chat in the game, so communication is limited to pinging locations on the map. Nightreign is set in the Elden Ring universe and has a shrinking storm circle mechanic, similar to Fortnite. This takes 15 minutes, so players have to act quickly in order to gain levels and obtain the weapons and items they need to defeat the first night's boss. If the boss is defeated, the storm circle resets and players have another 15 minutes to get even more powerful. If they survive the second night, they'll be transported to an area to take on the Nightlord, a powerful boss needed to complete the run successfully. Nightreign is a roguelike, so every run is different, with locations and night bosses changing. Because of that, it's easy to continue to play matches over and over again. Last month, FromSoftware released an option for harder Nightlords called Everdark Sovereigns. These are powered-up Nightlords that have more health and an additional phase in their fight, where the difficulty ramps up tremendously and makes for a battle meant for the most expert of players. Duo Expeditions for Nightreign will arrive via an update on July 30. Elden Ring: Nightreign is available on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series consoles for $40.

Elden Ring Nightreign is adding two-player co-op next week

Elden Ring Nightreign is finally adding a two-player co-op mode on July 30. Prior to this, FromSoftware's spinoff could only be played solo or with three players. The so-called Duo Expeditions come as part of patch 1.02. This is something fans have been asking for, as not everybody has two friends available at once to tackle a tough-as-nails 3D adventure. FromSoftware has released a trailer to accompany this news, so you can see the two-player co-op in action. Beyond Duo Expeditions, the forthcoming patch will include "quality-of-life UI improvements" and options for filtering Relics. We don't know what the UI upgrades will look like, but July 30 is right around the corner. This news comes just two months after the company tweaked the game to make the single-player experience a bit easier. It had been notoriously difficult, even for fans of FromSoftware. That update introduced an automatic revival mechanic and increased rune rewards for solo expeditions. There's no doubt about it. Elden Ring Nightreign is a bona-fide hit. The company also recently shared that the game has reached five million players. The wider Elden Ring universe is slowly but surely becoming a cultural juggernaut. There's a movie in the works, to be directed by Alex Garland. That's the guy who made Annihilation , Ex Machina , Civil War and the underrated TV show Devs .

Elden Ring Nightreign is adding two-player co-op

Elden Ring Nightreign is finally getting a two-player mode. FromSoftware announced on Friday that it's adding 'Duo Expeditions' in a patch coming on July 30th, allowing you to take on enemies across Limveld with one other friend. Since Elden Ring Nightreign's launch in May, the title has only let you play by yourself or in a group of three. Elden Ring Nightreign director Junya Ishizaki told IGN last year that 'this was largely a game balancing decision.' The move disappointed some players (myself included) who weren't able to find one more friend to form a trio, and didn't want to play with a random teammate online. In a May interview with IGN, Ishizaki apologized for not including a two-player mode, saying the option was 'overlooked and neglected.' He also said the team would look into adding support for two players in the future, and now that has finally arrived. Along with two-player support, next week's 1.02 patch will also add updates to the game's user interface, such as more Relic filtering options. Elden Ring Nightreign costs $39.99 and is available on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. Posts from this author will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed. 'Elden Ring Nightreign' To Launch Two-Player Mode Amid 3.5 Million Sales Milestone

The launch of Elden Ring Nightreign was rougher than one would expect from a FromSoftware title, but it's slowly making strides in its recovery. Despite selling two million units in its first 24 hours, the spin-off received a mixed reception on Steam, although it has since climbed to 'Mostly Positive'. After rolling out the first wave of improvements that added an auto-resurrect and increased runes gained for solo players, the developer has confirmed the launch of a two-player mode, known as Duo Expeditions, 'at a later date'. The announcement came by way of a post on X/Twitter celebrating the 3.5 million sales milestone: 'On the dawn of the fifth day, 3.5 million Nightfarers took up arms against the Night. We are ever grateful for your passion.' 'But the Night is far from over,' it continued. 'In addition to the DLC releasing later this year, new additions will be gradually implemented, including enhanced fights against existing Nightlords starting this month, as well as Duo Expeditions at a later date. Thank you for your support.' Set in Limgrave, now named Limveld, the first open-world area of the base title, Elden Ring Nightreign can be enjoyed alone or in teams of three players, who collaborate over three in-game days to prepare for the final boss. It features elements from the battle royale genre, such as a shrinking gameplay area, and introduced eight playable characters at launch: Wylder, Ironeye, Recluse, Duchess, Guardian, Executor, Raider, and Revenant. For those who need it, a fan-made mode is already available, allowing players to enjoy the game with two players. Enthusiasts can also expect more Elden Ring goodness moving forward, including a film adaptation from A24 and bonus content in the Tarnished Edition for the Nintendo Switch 2. The studio's next project, The Duskbloods, will debut in 2026 as a console exclusive.
