Australia complete Caribbean sweep

Ben Dwarshuis removed both openers and took the crucial wicket of top-scorer Shimron Hetmyer as Australia beat the West Indies on Monday in Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis, to sweep the T20 series 5-0. Chasing a modest 171 to win the fifth T20 international, Australia recovered from 25-3 and 60-4 to score 173-7 with three overs to spare. Cameron Green anchored the middle-order recovery with 32, big-hitting Tim David raced to 30 off 12 balls with four sixes and a four, and Mitchell Owen scored 37. When Green departed, Australia were 141-6, still needing 30, and the West Indies sniffed a consolation win. But Aaron Hardie kept his composure to see Australia home by three wickets with an unbeaten 28. 'I didn't expect 5-0 at the start of the series. But we played some great cricket,' said Australia captain Mitchell Marsh. West Indies captain Shai Hope pinpointed the reason for his team's failure to win a match. 'We never put together a proper batting display. We either started well or finished poorly or the other way round,' said Hope. 'Against a quality team you can't get away with that.' The West Indies were in trouble early, having been asked to bat when Marsh won the toss. Dwarshuis removed Brandon King for 11 and Hope for nine to reduce the hosts to 22-2 in the fourth over. That became 64-4 until Hetmyer led a fightback, hitting three fours and three sixes on his way to a half-century. It looked like the left-hander might take the West Indies to a challenging total, but Dwarshuis returned to induce a miscue to Sean Abbott at long-off from a slower bouncer. Hetmyer departed for 52 from 31 balls to leave West Indies 155- 7 in the 17th over. 'It was a little bit of a slower wicket so we tried to hit the wicket hard and use the slower balls as well,' said Dwarshuis, who was named player of the match. Australia also won the three Tests which preceded the T20 series to sweep all eight matches on the tour.

We have plenty more cricket coverage to fill your boots on our website so stick around and have a look, and see you next time. yesterday 12.46pm Hope laments a poor Windies batting display 'We came up against a quality opposition in Australia, but as a batting group we didn't give ourselves the best chance,' says the West Indies skipper. 'We were always one step behind the eight-ball, but have to commend the bowling effort. It just didn't happen for us today. In the Caribbean, chasing is always better due to the dew and wind factor, but that's not something I can control.' yesterday 12.45pm Green awarded player of the series 'The wickets were better,' he says. 'It was a great series for many of our guys … Inglis and Tim David, for instance. There are about five guys who can bat four … half the team are made of all-rounders and that's the kind of squad we want to build. 'I've had great partnerships around me, we all lean on each other. A massive series win; the T20 World Cup isn't too far away so a bit of consistency will be good.' yesterday 12.42pm Dwarshius is player of the match 'It was a slower wicket, so I tried to hit the wicket hard and bowl some slower ones,' says Dwarshius, who took the key wickets of King, Hope and Hetmyer. 'A lot of thinking and planning goes into the games, to not let batters access certain areas. It was a challenge on these batter-friendly wickets ... felt like a nice, tidy challenge. It's amazing to be part of this historic squad. I'll look back at this series for the rest of my life.' yesterday 12.24pm Dwarshuis falls late, Abbott in Hardie breaks the streak of singles with a reverse sweep that hits the ropes and gets Australia four runs closer, and they continue to pepper singles until … Dwarshuis tries to get it done in one hit but doesn't go the distances and is caught. Australia sweep T20 series against West Indies

LONDON: Australia completed a 5-0 sweep of the West Indies in their Twenty20 international series with Ben Dwarshuis's bowling paving the way for a three-wicket victory in Basseterre, Saint Kitts on Monday. Mitchell Owen top-scored for Australia with 37 off 17 balls, while Cameron Green (32), Tim David (30) and Aaron Hardie (28 nout out) all made valuable contributions as the visitors reached their target of 171 with 18 balls to spare. The win sealed the first T20 series sweep by an Australian men's team in the West Indies. "I didn't expect 5-0 at the start of the series," Australia captain Mitchell Marsh said. "But we played some great cricket. It was something we spoke about after the fourth game. "We knew no Australian team had completed a clean sweep. We've had guys come in and played different roles for us. "We spoke pre-tour about having flexibility and fluidity as a group. The way T20 is going teams just keep going now and it's exciting and hopefully we can continue our power hitting." West Indies fans must have feared the worst when Australia won a fifth straight toss and bowled the hosts out for 170, a total they reached thanks in large part to Shimron Hetmyer's knock of 52 off 31 balls. Dwarshuis picked up Hetmyer's wicket as well as those of openers Brandon King (11) and Shai Hope (9). "It was a little bit of a slower wicket so we tried to hit the wicket hard and use the slower balls as well," said Dwarshuis, who was named player of the match. "It was a definitely a challenge here with two batting line-ups that were ultra aggressive and some high scores. It was amazing to be part of this squad and this series victory." Australia return home for a limited-overs series against South Africa, while the West Indies play Pakistan in three T20Is and three one-day internationals.
