CM must resign over RCB tragedy: BJP
Mangaluru: The BJP Dakshina Kannada district unit staged a protest in Mangaluru on Friday, highlighting the tragic stampede in Bengaluru. The demonstration, led by party district president Sathish Kumpala, Mangaluru City South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath, former mayor Premanand Shetty, and others, held the state govt accountable for the unfortunate event. Sathish Kumpala said that chief minister Siddaramaiah, deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar, and home minister G Parameshwara should resign, by owning the moral responsibility for the tragic stampede at Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, that resulted in the deaths of 11 innocent people. Meanwhile, Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna expressed anger, stating that the govt led by chief minister Siddaramaiah suspended senior police officers to cover up its failures. Despite DyCM DK Shivakumar stating that police were not responsible for the incident, chief minister Siddaramaiah, bowing to pressure from the party high command, took this step to control the damage to the govt's reputation, the MLA stated in a release. "The state govt is fully responsible for the heartbreaking deaths of 11 innocent young people due to the lack of preparation for celebrating the historic victory of the RCB team for political gain. Suspending police officers for the tragedy caused by ignoring the warnings given by police and conducting the event at Chinnaswamy Stadium is condemnable. The state govt is set on undermining the morale of the police department," he said. This decision by the govt, which treats the police department as its puppet, serves as a wake-up call, proving that the govt will not hesitate to scapegoat the police when issues arise from its own misdeeds, he added. Celebrations cut short after Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede: Deputy CM DK Shivakumar
BENGALURU: Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Wednesday said that after the stampede during the RCB's IPL victory celebrations, he rushed to the stadium and directed to end the celebrations within 10 minutes. 'I went to the stadium and gave them a direction and requested that the programme should be closed within 10 minutes. The RCB team also agreed. We requested Virat Kohli also to just go. For courtesy sake, to show that they handed over the gift to Karnataka, they gave the cup to me and we closed the event,' the DyCM told media persons. The DyCM said the RCB team had requested an open-vehicle parade from HAL airport itself. 'But our police officials had advised us against it citing law and order. After deliberating it with the CM, we had decided not to grant permission for any victory parade,' he said. The DyCM said the police did their best to manage the situation and no one had expected a sudden surge in crowd. He said the police officers had advised the government not to allow players to be taken in an open bus and that was the reason he rushed to the airport to ensure that nothing untoward happened. The DyCM said they were very cautious during the programme at Vidhana Soudha. Asked about the RCB releasing the programme schedule on Wednesday morning without consulting the state government, the DyCM said the programme schedule was released, but he doesn't want to find others' faults now. Thursday's programmes postponed: The DyCM said all the government programmes, including the Environment Day celebrations scheduled to be held on Thursday, are postponed. They will only hold a cabinet meeting on Thursday, he said. He slammed the BJP for doing politics over the tragic event. 'Several people have lost their lives due to the tragic stampede during RCB victory celebrations and their families are mourning. But the insensitive BJP is busy doing politics over dead bodies. The tragedy should not have happened but it has happened. This is a time to treat the injured and condole the deaths and not do politics over dead bodies,' he said.

Revisit Lohia, JP for socialist values, Pathak hits back at SP over comments on him
Lucknow: Hitting back at the Samajwadi Party social media team for using objectionable comments against him, deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak on Sunday urged party chief Akhilesh Yadav to teach them the values laid down by socialist leaders like George Fernandes and Janeshwar Mishra to improve their conduct. Taking a jibe at the uncouth language used against him, Pathak said he could provide books and literature to the party cadre to align them with the socialist ideology. On Friday, a heated political drama unfolded in the state when the SP media cell made controversial remarks about Pathak's DNA. The comment sparked a fierce war of words, with Pathak launching a scathing counterattack. Pathak, visibly disturbed by the comments, seized the opportunity to highlight what he saw as deterioration of SP's socialist values. Drawing from the rich political heritage, the DyCM invoked the values fostered by Ram Manohar Lohia and Jayaprakash Narayan (JP). Pathak asked Akhilesh to make the SP members read Ram Manohar Lohia and Jayaprakash Narayan and make them listen to Pt Janeshwarji's speeches so that socialism is reflected in their behaviour and speech. He painted a stark contrast between their noble ideologies and what he perceived as "SP's current degraded state". "George Fernandes once emphasised the importance of learning and understanding. But the self-proclaimed socialists have lost their way," Pathak remarked. "They do not know what socialism is. They have turned socialism into a laboratory of abuse, arrogance and low-grade comments. If this is their form while in Opposition, one can easily guess what they would have done while in power. It is also surprising that these 'Shishupals' (cousin of Krishna) of the culture of arrogance, obscenity and anarchy even dare to take the name of Yogeshwar Krishna in their defence," he said. "O Yogeshwar Krishna, keep treating these Shishupals in the same way as the people of UP have been doing for the last 10 years. This will be their fate," Pathak posted. Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya also said, "Dynastic socialism has now completely turned into a stick-wielding one." President of BJP's Lucknow Mahanagar (city) unit Anand Dwivedi, on whose complaint the FIR was lodged, alleged that the X post contained "extremely objectionable things against the deceased mother of the deputy CM, which shows SP's anti-women mentality".
