Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy and BJP state president BY Vijayendra on Friday pinned the blame for Wednesday's stampede deaths in Bengaluru on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Dy CM DK Shivakumar, while urging the AICC leadership to fire them, holding them to account. 'Both CM and DyCM are responsible due to their obsession with power and publicity,' Kumaraswamy said.Kumaraswamy and Vijayendra addressed a joint press conference along with Opposition leader in the assembly R Ashoka and Opposition leader in the Council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy.Though the police had clearly warned that giving security to two RCB celebration events would be difficult, the CM insisted on holding them. The city police were pressured to give in, Kumaraswamy said, adding that the CM and his office were directly responsible for the tragedy. The deaths of 11 were caused by the CM, DyCM, and the CM's political secretary Govindaraju, an MLC, the union minister said. In a swift development later, the CM removed Govindaraju from the post in continuation of his tough action against officials. The CM also transferred the intelligence chief, Hemant Nimbalkar.Vijayendra wondered how the event went despite the police refusing permission. The FIR states the event at Chinnaswamy stadium was illegal. 'Despite this, why did Shivakumar go there and take part in the celebration?.'Kumraswamy, who is also the state JDS president, said though it was the government that blundered, the CM made police officers including Commissioner B Dayananda, the scapegoat, thereby sending a terrible message to the public. The Commissioner has demonstrated his abilities by handling similar situations in the past, he added. The BJP filed a police complaint at the Cubbon Park Police Station against the CM, Dy CM and Home Minister G Parameshwara accusing them of causing deaths and injuries to several people on Wednesday by allowing the two RCB celebration events without prior planning and by their negligent attitude.

Centre has diverted funds due to Tamil Nadu to other states: TNCC chief

COIMBATORE: Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K Selvaperunthagai on Saturday accused the BJP-led central govt of collecting taxes from Tamil Nadu without releasing the corresponding funds to the state. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now He condemned the Centre's move to reduce Lok Sabha seats in south India under the guise of constituency delimitation. Speaking to reporters at the Coimbatore International Airport on Saturday, Selvaperunthagai alleged that funds due to Tamil Nadu were being withheld and diverted to other states. 'Why the BJP govt, which exploits the blood and sweat of the people of Tamil Nadu, has not released funds for school education or disaster relief,' he asked. He accused the Centre of showing a stepmotherly attitude towards the state. The TNCC chief said the proposed delimitation would adversely affect southern states and it could render southern votes and parliamentary representation insignificant if carried out as the BJP desired. He warned that northern MPs would dominate decision-making, leaving little or no voice for the south. Commenting on Union home minister Amit Shah's visit to Madurai, he alleged that it was an attempt to create confusion and gain a foothold in Tamil Nadu. However, he asserted that such efforts would fail, as the people clearly understood the BJP's intentions. He reiterated that there was no place for the BJP or the RSS in the state.

Tomorrow, will chair a meeting of the state core committee of the Tamil Nadu BJP, in Madurai. In the evening, will interact with state, district, and mandal-level office bearers of the BJP in forward to attending the programs.… — Amit Shah (@AmitShah) June 7, 2025 The BJP has allied with the principal opposition party, AIADMK, to challenge the ruling DMK-led alliance in the upcoming state elections, which are less than a year away. The AIADMK is poised to lead the alliance, which is expected to include several smaller parties. This comes as the DMK intensifies its campaign, portraying the BJP as a party acting against the state's interests, particularly accusing it of attempting to impose Hindi. The DMK has voiced concerns about the potential for southern states like Tamil Nadu to lose political influence due to a possible delimitation exercise. This exercise could adjust the number of parliamentary seats based on population. With southern states having successfully controlled population growth, there are fears this could result in fewer seats compared to northern states, where population growth has been more substantial. Meanwhile, the BJP has accused the DMK of raising these issues to deflect attention from what it alleges is widespread corruption and ineffective governance under Chief Minister MK Stalin. Shah has previously assured that the interests of southern states will be protected. First Published: June 07, 2025, 20:50 IST
