Dean Evason Praises Dylan Garand After Impressive Showing At The World Championship

New York Rangers goalie prospect Dylan Grand finally got his moment in the spotlight. On Saturday afternoon in Stockholm, Sweden, Garand started for Team Canada's opening game of the World Championship and he recorded a shutout. Dylan Garand Likely To Serve As Marc-André Fleury's Backup For Team Canada At World Championship Dylan Garand will get the opportunity to display his skills on an international stage as he was named to Team Canada for the 2025 IIHF Men's World Championship. Garand's performance helped lead Team Canada to a decisive 4-0 victory over Slovenia. While the Canadiens heavily outshot the Slovenians 44-11, Garand was forced to make some difficult saves, especially early on in the contest when the game was still up for grabs. Team Canada coach Dean Evason made sure to praise Garand after the win. 'I'm very impressed,' Evason said about Garand. 'We gave up a couple opportunities, some three on ones, and he made some tremendous saves. They had good opportunities and Grand played really well for sure.' The 22-year-old recorded a 20-10-9 record, .913 save percentage, and 2.73 goals against average with the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League while also representing the Atlantic Division at the AHL All-Star Game this season. It's unclear how much Garand will play with both Marc-André Fleury and Jordan Binnington on the roster, but he certainly made a positive first impression.

Rangers Hold 12th Overall Pick After Draft Lottery With A Big Decision To Make

The New York Rangers will hold the 12th overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft on June 27. The Rangers were slotted to get the 11th overall pick but dropped one spot during the draft lottery. Dylan Garand Likely To Serve As Marc-André Fleury's Backup For Team Canada At World Championship Dylan Garand will get the opportunity to display his skills on an international stage as he was named to Team Canada for the 2025 IIHF Men's World Championship. Now that the organization knows where they stand in the lottery, there's a big decision they'll have to make. As part of the J.T. Miller trade, the Rangers have to give up either their 2025 or 2026 first-round pick. Despite missing the playoffs this season, the Blueshirts still seem to have championship aspirations going into the 2025-26 campaign, so there's a good chance they finish with a better record hence a pick later in the first round. However, if the Rangers decide to keep their pick in this year's draft and regress next season, that could be a costly decision that haunts the franchise. Meanwhile, the New York Islanders won the draft lottery and will hold the first overall pick.
