UAE petrol prices to change for May 2025
The UAE is set to announce petrol prices for May 2025 this week. Petrol prices fell sharply in April, following a slight decline increase in March, making it cheaper for motorists filling up on Super 98, Special 95, E-Plus 91 and diesel. It is currently significantly cheaper to fill up a tank than year ago, with all categories becoming more affordable, despite prices fluctuating throughout the past 12 months. UAE petrol prices May 2025 In April 2024, E-Plus 91 was priced at AED2.96 a litre, while diesel was set at AED3.09 a litre. On current prices, E-Plus 91 is cheaper (at AED2.38 a litre) than at this time last year. Special 95 and Super 98 are also cheaper now than a year ago, falling from AED3.03 to AED2.46 a litre and AED3.15 to 2.57 a litre respectively. Since April 1, the cost of filling up vehicles in the UAE has been: E-Plus: AED2.38 a litre from AED2.54 in March Special 95: AED2.46 a litre from AED2.61 in March Super 98: AED2.57 a litre from AED2.73 in March Diesel: AED2.63 a litre from AED2.77 in March In response to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the Fuel Price Committee froze petrol prices in the UAE, preventing any changes. However, in March 2021, as global oil prices began to rise, the controls were lifted to allow market forces to determine petrol prices once again. Moreover, the fluctuation in petrol prices is also influenced by changes in crude oil prices worldwide. UAE Petrol Prices Expected to Fall Next Month
Petrol prices in the UAE continued their downward trend for a second consecutive month in April 2025, driven by global economic uncertainty and a steep drop in crude oil prices. Rates for Super 98, Special 95, and E-Plus 91 fell to Dh2.57, Dh2.46, and Dh2.38 per litre, respectively, with further reductions expected for May. The decline follows a sharp drop in Brent crude prices, which tumbled to as low as $62.8 per barrel in early April as the US tariff dispute intensified and recession fears weighed on global markets. Throughout April, Brent mostly traded within the $60s range, averaging $66.6 a barrel compared to nearly $71 the previous month. In the UAE, retail fuel prices are directly tied to international benchmarks, a policy introduced in 2015 to support market deregulation. Under this system, local petrol prices are adjusted monthly, typically announced on the last day of each month. The current slide in oil prices has been influenced not just by tariff tensions but also by the Opec+ decision to ramp up production at a faster pace than anticipated, adding further pressure on global crude markets. Investment firm Saxo Bank forecasted earlier this month that Brent would trade between $65 and $85 a barrel in the second quarter, highlighting continued volatility. Meanwhile, US sanctions targeting Iranian and Venezuelan oil exports have added a geopolitical layer to the market's movements, with Washington signalling a willingness to endure higher oil prices to achieve broader strategic goals. As May approaches, UAE consumers and businesses alike are watching for another potential drop in fuel costs, offering some relief amid an otherwise cautious global economic outlook. UAE: Why petrol prices are likely to drop next month
Petrol prices in the UAE are likely to drop for the month of May 2025 as prices plunged in April due to the US tariff row and concerns around a slowdown in the global economy and recessionary fears. Globally, Brent fell as low as $62.8 per barrel in early April as tariff war escalated. Brent mostly traded in the $60s a barrel range in April. Globally, Brent was trading at $66.9 and WTI at $63.13 on Monday morning. It averaged $66.6 a barrel in April compared to nearly $71 a barrel last month. In the UAE, petrol prices were reduced for the second consecutive month in April 2025 with Super 98, Special 95 and E-Plus 91 selling at Dh2.57, Dh2.46 and Dh2.38 per litre, respectively. Petrol prices for the upcoming month are usually revised on the last day of each passing month. The UAE linked its local retail petrol prices to international benchmarks in 2015 as part of its deregulation drive. In addition to the tariff, Opec+ decision to increase oil production much faster than expected also weighed on the crude oil prices. Saxo Bank said in its second-quarter outlook earlier this month that Brent crude to trade within a $65-$85 per barrel range. 'We have seen the US administration tighten sanctions on the Iranian oil trading network, and this was followed up when President Donald Trump declared that the US will enforce a 25 per cent tariff on any nation importing Venezuelan crude. "Although the immediate market impact might be minimal, apart from supporting additional short covering from underinvested hedge funds, this action indicates a definite change, potentially signalling the White House's willingness to sacrifice low oil prices to achieve wider strategic objectives—isolating Iran and Venezuela and increasing pressure on China,' the investment bank said in a note. Take a look at the monthly petrol prices from 2024 and 2025 below:
