Notre Dame amp-up song reported to be included in major video game franchise
Notre Dame fans might be getting a little treat inside the Electronic Arts video game EA Sports College Football 26 when it launches on July 10. Fighting Irish fans who attend home games or watch them on NBC/Peacock know that the stadium operations crew plays The Dropkick Murphys' "I'm Shipping Up to Boston" to fire up the crowd just before kickoff. The song, which was also popularized in the 2006 movie The Departed and is a staple of rowdy bars every St. Patrick's Day, might be included in the game. Whether that will only be for when the player is playing as the Irish and it's a home game, or for every Notre Dame home game (i.e. if the player is playing as another school visiting a computer-controlled Irish squad), remains to be seen. Notre Dame won't be the only school getting this treatment -- Virginia Tech's use of the Metallica classic "Enter Sandman" might also be replicated in the virtual world, along with others. Apparently, when it comes to pump-up music, "it's in the game." EA Sports College Football 26 trailer showcases Michigan QB Bryce Underwood vs Ohio State It won't be long now, but if you're a Michigan football fan, you can fire up your PlayStation 5 or next-gen XBox and play as the new-look Wolverines. Even as the all-new EA Sports College Football 26 was officially revealed, they're all but telling you that you can be Bryce Underwood. At least figuratively -- in a video game. The reveal of the new iteration of the college football video game arrived on Thursday and while the maize and blue saw very little representation, what they did get was new quarterback, Bryce Underwood -- the former five-star and No. 1 overall player in the 2026 class -- wearing a winged helmet, scrambling around and slinging it against rival Ohio State. You can see for yourself right here: Underwood is also featured on the newly revealed deluxe cover, along with NCAA Football 14 cover model, former Wolverines quarterback Denard Robinson. The only other Michigan football player featured in the reveal is junior tight end Zack Marshall, who appears to be on the negative end of being covered by Ohio State safety Caleb Downs in the end zone. Every Michigan State player to reportedly be in this year's college football video game The entire Michigan State football roster is expected to be in this year's EA Sports College Football 26 video game. Justin Thind of 247Sports reported on Thursday that he has been told that every scholarship player on the Spartans' roster will opt to be in this year's game. That was not the case last year, with a number of players electing to not be included in the video game. Here's what Thind wrote on this subject: "A source tells Spartan Tailgate that no Michigan State football scholarship players are expected to opt out of their inclusion in the game. Last year, over a dozen MSU players were missing from the game upon its release, with some starters - like Cal Haladay - never making it in, not even after the midseason updates. This time, the game is set to launch with the full Spartan roster barring an unforeseen surprise." Thind additionally noted that the increased payout to players from $500 to $1,500 and improved opt-in process played a role in the increased numbers of "real" players in the game. EA Sports will officially release this year's version of its college football video game on July 10th (or on July 7th for deluxe edition preorders).
