EMPD arrests multiple drivers for reckless speeding in Ekurhuleni
Seven men have been arrested for excessive speeding during high-impact enforcement operations conducted by the EMPD in Brakpan and Edenvale. According to the EMPD, the arrests took place on July 23 and 26. Officers from the EMPD High Speed Unit monitored traffic along the R554, R23, and Sam Green Road, where speed limits vary between 60km/h and 120km/h. Several vehicles, including a white BMW sedan, a blue Volvo hatchback, two white Isuzu LDVs, a white BMW motorbike, a black Chery, and a white Mercedes-Benz, were clocked at dangerously high speeds. One driver was caught travelling at a staggering 210km/h. All seven drivers were arrested on the spot and detained at Brakpan and Bedfordview police stations. They face charges of reckless and negligent driving and are expected to appear in their respective magistrate's courts soon. The EMPD has reiterated its warning to motorists about the dangers of speeding. 'Speeding endangers not only the driver but everyone on the road,' the department said.
