DENVER (KDVR) — A 21-year-old from Fort Collins is facing a federal charge of bank robbery with forced accompaniment after he was arrested outside of a credit union on May 27. Isaac Meraz, 21, was arrested Tuesday, May 27, after he allegedly robbed the ENT Credit Union on West Drake Road at about 2 p.m. Free on Your TV • New FOX31+ App for Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Colorado said Meraz was wearing a 'full rubber mask with attached fake hair,' and told bank employees 'he was there to 'audit' the bank.' Prosecutors said Meraz then produced what appeared to be a handgun and forced three employees to accompany him inside the bank's vault. Prosecutors said Meraz pointed the 'gun' at an employee, and 'out of fear and intimidation, that employee provided Meraz with money out of the vault.' The U.S. Attorney's Office said that while fleeing the credit union, Meraz dropped some of the stolen money and the apparent firearm. Later, officials determined it was a realistic-looking BB gun. While officials were investigating the incident, they placed Rocky Mountain High School on secure status for about 15 minutes. Fort Collins Police Services said it later served a search warrant at a residence in the 1200 block of City Park Avenue and recovered 'key evidentiary items.' Fort Collins police and the FBI worked jointly on the investigation. According to Cornell Law School, the charge of bank robbery carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, with no minimum sentence outlined in the law. Bank robbery with forced accompaniment carries an additional minimum sentence of 10 years in prison, and a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. Meraz made his initial court appearance on May 30. On May 27, around 2:03 p.m., Fort Collins police responded to a reported bank robbery at the ENT Credit Union at 1107 West Drake Road. The officers contacted a man in the area who matched the description given and took him into custody and booked him at the Larimer County Jail on charges, including: Felony menacing, three counts Felony aggravated robbery Felony theft over $20k The suspect was identified as Isaac Meraz. During the incident, Rocky Mountain High School was placed on secure status due to the close proximity to the incident. The bank was closed for nearly three hours during the investigation. Detectives said that while executing a search warrant at a residence in the area of the 1200 block of City Park Avenue, key evidence was recovered. 'As we remain committed to keeping our neighborhoods safe, we want to assure the public that swift action was taken following this armed bank robbery. The suspect was apprehended without further incident, and no injuries were reported. Police make arrest in bank robbery that put nearby high school on secure status

Fort Collins police announced the arrest of a suspect in a May 27 bank robbery that put nearby Rocky Mountain High School on secure status for 15 minutes. The suspect was arrested less than two hours after the robbery at ENT Credit Union, 1107 W. Drake Road, was reported, according to Larimer County Sheriff's Office arrest and jail records. The 21-year-old male was taken into custody on felony charges of aggravated robbery, theft of more than $20,000 and three counts of menacing, Fort Collins police said in a May 29 news release. Credit union staff reported a masked man with a firearm had robbed several employees for an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing on foot, the news release said. Officers responding to the call contacted a male near the credit union who matched the general description of the suspect and took him into custody. Detectives executed a search warrant at the suspect's residence, where they 'recovered key evidentiary items,' the news release said. Fort Collins police and the FBI are working jointly on the investigation. The suspect remained in the Larimer County Jail as of 3:30 p.m. May 29. His bond was set at $80,000. His next court appearance was scheduled for June 3. Police are asking anyone with information on the incident who they have not already spoken to contact Detective Al Wilson at 970-416-2923.
