Ex-Steelers QB Kenny Pickett named 'worst player' at Browns OTAs
Ex-Steelers QB Kenny Pickett named 'worst player' at Browns OTAs Former Steelers QB Kenny Pickett is struggling at Browns OTAs. Some have argued that the Browns' four-man QB room is the joke of the NFL — and if that's true, Pickett may be the punchline, as ESPN Cleveland host Aaron Goldhammer provides some disheartening news on the former Steelers QB. According to Goldhammer, Pickett was behind veteran Joe Flacco and rookie QBs Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel at Day 3 of Browns OTAs. Here is what the ESPN Cleveland host had to say on Pickett's less-than-spectacular performance: "Best quarterback at OTAs yesterday, from what I heard — and I talked to 20 people that were there — consensus best quarterback: Joe Flacco. Consensus second-best quarterback: Shedeur Sanders. Consensus third: Dillon Gabriel. Consensus worst player at OTAs: Kenny Pickett." Pickett previously claimed that he was thankful for his time with the Eagles — as he supposedly learned what success was supposed to look like. Well, he may need some of that Philly magic again, as he's currently losing the QB competition in Cleveland to a 40-year-old veteran QB and two rookies. Shedeur Sanders' training camp plan revealed by Cleveland Browns
The Cleveland Browns are coming up on their spring organized team activities, and the main storyline will be the quarterback battle featuring former Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders. Sanders joins third-round pick Dillon Gabriel and veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett as the four quarterbacks fighting for the top position. Former Pro Bowler Deshaun Watson is also on the roster but is recovering from an Achilles injury. Advertisement On Friday, Stefanski appeared on ESPN Cleveland to discuss his crowded quarterback room and explain how he will divide the offseason reps. "I told the players, 'Don't pay attention to where you are in line because where you are on Tuesday, it may be different than Wednesday," Stefanski told ESPN Cleveland. "So no, we don't pay close attention to that. Certainly, you have to decide what order the guys are gonna go out, and sometimes it may be player X, player Y, whatever it is." It certainly sounds like an open competition, and Stefanski went further, saying that reps will fluctuate throughout the offseason as the Browns continue evaluating the signal callers. "The big thing for us is making sure we give the guys enough reps that they need," Stefanski said. "It's two-fold. Both, they're learning the system, they're developing, and we're evaluating them and finding out more about them. That's why I said before, it's not going to be everybody gets 25% of these reps. It's not how it's gonna be. We want to give everybody enough reps where we can learn more about them and prepare them to get ready to play." The Browns' four-person quarterback competition is unique considering two of the four quarterbacks were not even on the roster a month ago. Drafting two rookie quarterbacks at similar points in the draft is uncommon, but the Browns hope it brings out the best in both Sanders and Gabriel. Advertisement Despite falling to the fifth round, Sanders seems to have every shot at the starting job this season, especially after impressing at rookie minicamp. Stefanski, when asked about Sanders specifically, praised the rookie quarterback for the work he has done so far. "He's in there early, he's getting his work done," Stefanski said. "He's working really, really hard. I like everything there is about Shedeur." Follow Charlie Strella on X, Threads, and Instagram. Shedeur Sanders' camp already involved in media rift in Cleveland
There's already some drama brewing for Shedeur Sanders and his camp in his new home of Cleveland. A member of Sanders' support staff who posted videos of the quarterback's recent trip to a Cleveland high school lashed out at an ESPN Cleveland radio host who questioned Sanders' intentions, labeling the host's opinion as 'spewed hate.' 'Shedeur did NOT post anything! I posted it,' a Sanders supporter, Hellion 'Boog' Knight posted Thursday on X in a quote tweet featuring the initial criticism. 'He didn't ask me, or anyone else to post anything. Nor did he ask for a hundred cameras to be on him upon his entrance into the school. This isn't his first school visit. He's done MANY, in various cities & is just spewed hate.' Advertisement Sanders' drop to the Browns in the fifth round at pick No. 144 served as the NFL draft's biggest storylines, with many wondering why a talented quarterback fell that far. Concerns about his off-the-field traits and his talent level have been discussed, but some pundits wondered about all the attention Sanders and his camp would bring to a team. Advertisement Sanders posts tons of content on social media dating back to his time at Jackson State, which his father, Deion, fully supported and even leaned into at different parts as his head coach also at Colorado. Sanders has a full video team as part of his massive support system. This drama came to light after Sanders did a good deed by visiting John Marshall High School in Cleveland, with the quarterback honoring his pledge to get involved with youths in his new home. Knight posted clips from the day on X, while commenting: 'We appreciate the love & passion from the Cleveland Brown fan base!!' Advertisement 3 Sanders during his visit to the Cleveland area high school. @Hboog32/X ESPN Cleveland's Aaron Goldhammer had an issue with the visit, though, 'I would have preferred that if he was gonna go talk to a bunch of high school kids, he didn't post it on social media five seconds after the thing was over,' Goldhammer said. Advertisement Co-host Tony Rizzo shot down the take, saying the Browns provide similar content during the season. 'I felt like it was him screaming, 'See, look how good a person I am. I went to a school, then I worked out. I'm doing all the right things,'' Goldhammer said. 3 Goldhammer (r) made the comments that Knight responded to. @ESPNCleveland/X Another member of the show, Chris Oldach, then said Goldhammer needs to bash any rookie who visits an ill child in the hospital. 'He's not any rookie,' Goldhammer said. 'And the Browns are the ones posting that stuff, not the individual players.' 3 Knight in a photo he posted to Instagram in January. @ym_boog32/Instagram Knight is cited by many outlets as the head of operations for Lil Wayne's Young Money APPA Sports, which represents fellow ex-Colorado star Travis Hunter, and his X timeline has been filled with retweets supporting Sanders, along with his take on the situation and why he defended him. He tagged Goldhammer while posting videos from other places where Sanders has paid it forward, including in Colorado and during the Shrine Bowl in Texas. Advertisement He further explained his logic in responding in a quote tweet of a post recapping the situation. 'Exactly. I just like to set the record straight. 'The media' at times, wants to bury your name in lies, and not be held accountable for doing so,' Knight wrote. 'And want you to be ok with it. I say, place the accountability in the right place. Don't attack the kid, come at me. I'm ok with it.'

Joe Flacco has "no expectation" over who the starting QB will be in Cleveland
Browns quarterback Kenny Pickett recently said he plans to win the starting job in Cleveland. Earlier today, Browns quarterback Joe Flacco opted not to express similar confidence. 'I don't think there's any expectation of exactly who's gonna be the starting quarterback,' Flacco said in an appearance on ESPN Cleveland. 'So, you know, I'm excited to get in that room and go show that I have a lot of football ahead of me and kind of become part of the team and do my best to prove all those things. Just like you always would when you kind of come into a new situation and wanna be the guy.' Why does he still want to be the guy, after all these years and everything he has accomplished in the NFL? 'I love football,' Flacco said. 'I still feel like I can do it at a high level. And . . . I don't have regrets in my life. This is one of those things, like if I still feel like I can do it and somebody else still feels like I can do it enough to be a chance, well, this probably would be something I would regret not doing. And then also, I have five kids at home and I've got to get away from them, you know, a little bit.' Flacco laughed at the end. And he has said it before. The reality is that Flacco truly loves football, enough to be a backup if that's how it shakes out. How will it shake out between Pickett and Flacco? We'll find out eventually. But Flacco has plenty of built-in equity with the fans, given his arrival and performance late in the 2023 — a performance strong enough to vault him past Damar Hamlin for the Comeback Player of the Year award.
