2026 Kia EV9 unveiled, gets enhanced range and a new edition

Kia has unveiled the 2026 iteration of its flagship electric SUV, EV9, in the United States, delivering improved range for select trims and introducing a new Nightfall Edition with distinctive styling. While India exclusively offers the top-spec GT-Line, the US market features four trims: Light SR, Light LR, Wind, and Land, alongside the GT-Line. advertisementThe 2026 Kia EV9 brings notable range improvements across its lineup. The GT-Line variant sees the most significant gain, adding an additional range of 16.1km for a total claimed range of 451km. The Wind and Land trims each gain 4.8km, reaching 455km, while the Light LR trim improves by 1.6km to 491km. The Light SR is equipped with a 76.1kWh battery, while the other trims feature a larger 99.8kWh battery pack. For comparison, Kia claims a 561km range for the EV9 GT-Line on India's ARAI test cycle. The new Nightfall Edition, exclusive to the Land trim, combines rugged aesthetics with enhanced performance. It features 20-inch blacked-out alloy wheels, gloss black skid plates, fascia accents, side rails, mirrors, roof rails, and exclusive Nightfall badging. Unlike typical 'Black Editions' in India, it introduces a unique Roadrider Brown exterior colour. Inside, the black theme continues with a sleek dashboard and Nightfall-specific stitching patterns available in both six- and seven-seater layouts. advertisement A key highlight of the Nightfall Edition is its Boost mode, which increases torque by 100Nm to 700Nm, matching the GT-Line's output for a more dynamic driving 2026 EV9 remains built on Kia's E-GMP platform, retaining its existing battery options: a 76.1kWh pack for the Light SR and a 99.8kWh pack for other trims. Power outputs range from 201bhp for the base model to 379hp for higher trims, ensuring robust performance for this three-row electric SUV. Kia has adjusted pricing to enhance the EV9's value in the US. The base Light SR remains unchanged at 54,900 USD. The Light LR is now priced at 59,900 USD (up from 57,900 USD), the Land trim at 69,900 USD, and the GT-Line at 73,900 USD (previously USD 71,900). The 2026 Kia EV9 is now available in the US, with no confirmed updates for the Indian market, where only the GT-Line is offered. The Nightfall Edition's unique styling and performance upgrades position the EV9 as a standout in the competitive electric SUV to Auto Today Magazine

Kia's 2026 EV9 Delivers More Miles for Less Money

The Kia EV9 debuted just a couple of years ago. It's a three-row, all-electric SUV in a small but blooming segment that only touts a handful of good options like the Rivian R1S, Volvo EX90, and the EV9 itself. For 2026, despite being half a market segment on its own, it doesn't get any pricier. What's more, Kia's juiced the model up a bit to make it an even more compelling value than it already was. The most impressive news for prospective shoppers will most likely be the range increases that many 2026 Kia EV9 trim levels see. The most substantial changes come to the GT-Line, which is, for now, the range-topping model. Kia massaged another ten miles of range from the battery, bringing the total range to 280 miles from 270 miles. The two models under the GT-Line see little bumps, too. Both the Land and Wind trim levels see three-mile gains, bringing total range up to 283 miles. The Light LR (Long Range) model sees a one-mile increase in range, bringing it up to a nice round 305 miles. In fact, the only model that didn't see any sort of changes is the standard EV9 Light SR, which presumably stays at 230 miles. The EV9 GT, a high-performance model that's confirmed to exist but lacks any real details, hasn't been assigned official range numbers or any sort of production schedule. Kia did introduce a new option package to the 2026 Kia EV9: the Nightfall Edition. Available on the Land AWD trim level only, it adds 20-inch gloss black wheels that you can't find elsewhere in the lineup. It also bundles black badging, gloss black trim, and other special interior bits. No pricing confirmed there yet, either. You may think that with more usability comes a higher price tag, but you would be wrong. The 2026 Kia EV9 actually becomes, on the whole, less expensive than the 2025 model. While the base model and EV9 Wind stay the same, every other trim level gets a sweet five-figure discount. The 2026 Kia EV9 Land is $1,000 less expensive than last year's model, now starting at $70,395, including delivery fees of $1,495. The 2026 Kia EV9 Light LR and top-dog GT-Line see double the savings: that's right, $2,000 off compared to last year's models. They start at $59,395 and $73,395, respectively. The 2026 Kia EV9 remains a big fish in a small pond. While competition exists from the likes of Volvo, Mercedes, Tesla, and Rivian, it's about $20,000 less expensive than the nearest competitor. Assuming, of course, you need usable back seats, as the Mercedes EQB/Model Y technically offers a third row, but usability is a bit suspect. Handsome styling, average range, and great interior space already separate the EV9 from the other guys, but Kia's pricing changes for the 2026 EV9 widen the gap even further. Kia Adjusts 2026 EV9 Prices to Attract Buyers

Kia has officially announced the updated 2026 EV9 prices, revealing a mix of stability and strategic cuts across its popular electric SUV lineup. These changes are designed to enhance the vehicle's competitiveness in global markets, including the U.S. and the Middle East, making the EV9 more appealing to a wider audience of EV buyers. Breakdown of 2026 EV9 Prices Across the Range For the 2026 model year, the EV9 continues to be offered in five trims, with the latest pricing as follows: EV9 Light SR (Standard Range) remains unchanged at $56,395 (approximately 211,481 SAR), maintaining its position as the entry-level option. EV9 Light LR (Long Range) sees a $2,000 drop to $59,395 (approx. 222,731 SAR), boosting its value for drivers focused on longer travel ranges. EV9 Wind holds steady at $65,395 (approx. 245,231 SAR), reflecting Kia's commitment to price consistency. EV9 Land is now priced at $70,396 (approx. 263,985 SAR), down slightly from last year. EV9 GT-Line receives the largest cut among the premium trims, now starting at $73,395 (approx. 275,231 SAR), $2,000 less than its previous tag. Nightfall Edition Adds Style and Performance In addition to revised 2026 EV9 prices, Kia has introduced a new Nightfall Edition for the EV9 Land trim. This variant integrates the GT-Line's Boost mode, raising torque from 601 Nm to 700 Nm without altering the 379 hp power output. Aesthetic upgrades include sleek black accents, 20-inch wheels, and a new Roadrider Brown exterior color. Subtle Range Improvements Across Trims Complementing the 2026 EV9 prices, several models have received minor range increases: GT-Line improves to 280 miles (approx. 451 km) Wind and Land now offer 283 miles (approx. 455 km) Light LR reaches 305 miles (approx. 491 km) These enhancements add further appeal without impacting the revised pricing. What the New 2026 EV9 Prices Mean for Buyers The updated 2026 EV9 prices represent a clear effort to deliver more value while keeping select trims accessible. With meaningful price cuts on the Long Range and GT-Line variants and new performance features, Kia is targeting both practical and performance-oriented buyers. At the same time, consistent pricing on the Light SR and Wind trims shields customers from inflation, reinforcing Kia's balanced pricing approach. In essence, the 2026 EV9 prices reflect a strategic alignment between affordability, technology upgrades, and customer expectations—positioning the EV9 as a standout electric SUV for drivers worldwide and across the Arab region.

10 EVs that aren't Tesla and still turn heads

Drivers can choose from many EVs that aren't Tesla – Photo courtesy of piranka / E+ The rise of the electric vehicle, or EV, has been a long time coming. While it may seem like a 21st century innovation, the first basic electrified vehicle dates back to the late 1820s. Over the past two centuries, car manufacturers have iterated and innovated upon the original concept. Today, EVs continue to make strides in popularity and market share. While one company has driven much of the widespread adoption, many electric cars that aren't Tesla are turning heads. 'There's been a big increase in the variety of models and brands to choose from, including several different body styles,' says Edmunds' senior consumer advice editor Ronald Montoya. Also, as the number of public car-charging stations grows, EVs have become more practical. "Several models allow you to either charge less in the week or pay fewer visits to charge stations on a road trip,' Montoya adds. Variety aside, 'Electric vehicles can be less expensive to own and operate because electricity costs less than gasoline most of the time, and because they have fewer moving parts, which means less maintenance,' says Sean Tucker, lead editor of Kelley Blue Book. 'They can also be more fun to drive than gas-powered cars, as a gasoline engine spools up power gradually over a few seconds, whereas an EV instantly has 100% of its power available.' Advertisement To help you pick the right EV, we asked Montoya and Tucker for their take on the best electric cars beyond Tesla. Whether you're looking for a sports EV, one for family, commuting, or just a cool one, these recommendations have you covered.
