Ana Navarro grills controversial politician Anthony Weiner about being a registered sex offender live on 'The View'

Controversial politician Anthony Weiner appeared on The View as he runs for office. Ana Navarro grilled him on being a sex offender after he transferred obscene material to a minor. In an email, Weiner tells EW Navarro asked "tough but totally fair questions" about his View cohost Ana Navarro turned up the heat on controversial politician and former congressman Anthony Weiner, as the Republican commentator grilled him about his status as a registered sex offender during his attempted comeback in New York City politics. After fielding a few other talking points at the top of his interview, Navarro dove into Weiner's numerous headline-making incidents over the years, which she laid out in full at the top of her question for the current New York City council candidate who was previously imprisoned over "illicit online contact with a 15-year-old girl," the Associated Press reported in 2019. "Let's talk about some of these giant scandals. You've had numerous of them," Navarro began. "You resigned from Congress in 2011 over a sexting scandal. Two years later, you stepped down from the mayoral race after sexting again under the alias Carlos Danger. Then, in 2016, you sent lewd texts to a minor and served 15 months in prison, in addition to becoming a registered sex offender." Navarro eventually got to her question, looking toward Weiner as she asked, "With all that said, why do you think, or why should New Yorkers give you a chance at a political comeback?" Weiner answered by acknowledging that "all of that happened," before saying, "I accept responsibility for it." He stressed that he wouldn't label himself as "a victim" of political persecution, but added, "I was dealing with very serious problems, I was dealing with what I now understand to be addiction." Weiner continued, "I accept it. I didn't ask for a trial, I pled guilty, served my time in prison, served in a halfway house, served probation, went to try to do good work for the formerly incarcerated. I guess what I'm saying to people is, maybe don't vote for me in spite of what they know about me, but maybe consider that journey, that idea that we all go through things and we come out the other side." The 60-year-old, who's classified as a low-tier offender, doesn't appear in public searches on New York City's sex offender registry as a result, also invoked a Catholic ideology. He summarized it as, "you suffer for a reason so you can be of service at the other end." Weiner also noted that he's "doing the opposite of what a lot of politicians do" in similar situations. "[They] ignore that problem, pretend it didn't happen, blame someone else," he observed. "I'm saying, yes, I did these things. I got into recovery, I tried to make my life better. Now, if I can be of service — and I'm a damn good politician — I come up with answers, I talk to people directly, I don't try to butter over things, I try to be direct. Why shouldn't I? If it's just because I have bad things in my past, that's not a good enough reason. All I can ever be is who I am right now, and that brought me to this space." The View audience applauded Weiner's words before the conversation shifted to other topics. In an email to Entertainment Weekly following the interview, Weiner says Navarro's inquiry included "tough but totally fair questions" on the air. "I was convicted of an obscenity crime that usually doesn't result in registry requirements. But, I accepted it as part of my guilty plea and as part of my commitment to acceptance of responsibility," Weiner continues of the legal development, which he says also involves "no restrictions of any sort on movements and not Later on The View, Joy Behar asked Weiner about sexism in politics. He then brought the topic back to his marriage to ex-wife Huma Abedin from 2010 to 2017, after he began a relationship with her while she worked for Hillary Clinton at the State Department and was later heavily involved in Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign."She's amazing" Weiner observed of Abedin, before highlighting what he felt were unfair expectations for women in politics. "I would watch the standard, we had our courtship during the 2008 campaign, so I was right there up close to watch. The standards that women have to live up to, everything from what they wear to how they talk to the intonation to the inflection. The number of times I heard someone comment about Hillary Clinton's laugh.... I think there is something to [your point]." As Navarro noted on The View, Weiner previously attempted a political comeback in a bid to become mayor of New York City in 2013 — a move camera crews documented for the 2016 documentary Weiner. The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. PT on ABC. Read the original article on Entertainment Weekly

Keanu Reeves Spreads His Comedy Wings as Aziz Ansari's 'Budget Guardian Angel' in 'Good' 'Fortune' Trailer

Keanu Reeves plays a guardian angel in the first teaser trailer for Aziz Ansari's Good Fortune The comedy also stars Seth Rogen, Keke Palmer and Sandra Oh Good Fortune is in theaters Oct. 17Keanu Reeves wants to help lost souls find Good Fortune. The John Wick action star, 60, plays a guardian angel in the first teaser trailer for the comedy, which is written and directed by Aziz Ansari. Good Fortune also stars Seth Rogen, Keke Palmer and Sandra Oh. A synopsis says the film follows a "well-meaning but rather inept angel named Gabriel" who "meddles in the lives of a struggling gig worker (Ansari) and a wealthy venture capitalist (Rogen)." Reeves previously recounted suffering an injury on the set of Good Fortune, telling The Late Show host Stephen Colbert that his knee "cracked like a potato chip" filming with Ansari, 42, and Rogen, 43, in a cold plunge. 'I was loving it, I was standing there, and we finish the scene, and you know when you're cold and you're [shuffling]? I had a bathing suit and a towel, and you put it over your head and you do the cold shuffle?" he recalled in July 2024. is now available in the Apple App Store! Reeves added, "I'm doing the cold shuffle in this room that had protective carpets down and then, just here, there was like a little pocket, and my foot got caught in the pocket in the shuffle, and then I went [down], but [my knee] didn't follow. And then, in slow motion, I went falling. My arms came out, but then my knee failed because it's got some stuff, and I spiked it. And my patella — kneecap — cracked like a potato chip.' Ansari told Entertainment Weekly that he hopes Good Fortune marks a return for R-rated comedies to be enjoyed in theaters. "I feel like people are like, 'Oh, no one goes to comedies and theaters anymore.' It's like, well, they haven't really been making a lot of them, you know what I mean?" he said. "So I hope this movie shows that people do want to see comedies at theaters and that it just leads to people making s---ty ripoffs of Good Fortune." Reeves told EW of working with the Parks and Recreation alum, 'Aziz is great. A great writer, director, actor. I had such a fantastic experience working with him." Get a first look at 'Bachelor in Paradise' season 10's chic new Costa Rica digs (exclusive)

Dating is hard. Dating in the heat of summer on a beach that's often overrun with crabs is even harder — but for nine seasons, contestants on Bachelor in Paradise did it anyway. This year, however, Paradise is getting an upgrade. Entertainment Weekly has an exclusive first look at Bachelor in Paradise's new summer home, the Azura Beach Resort in Costa Rica, and from what we can see, there isn't a rogue crab in sight. And rather than sweating it out in open-air hotel rooms, every contestant will enjoy a room with four walls, air conditioning, and a private pool. 'The hotel is more upscale and has a sexy chicness to it that feels more elevated than the traditional kind of Paradise world that we've been in,' explains new showrunner Scott Teti (Claim to Fame, Summer House). 'The cast can literally open the doors to their rooms and swim out into the pool under bridges, and then up to a beautiful bar that is touching the beach. It has amazing views. The beach itself is private and unique. There's a beautiful island right off it with a bunch of fishing boats that surround it every day, with a quaint little town right next door, but not a ton of foot traffic. It feels remote and upscale and sexy at the same time.' Season 10 contestants — including some single seniors from the Golden franchise — will each be paired with a roommate, though EW can confirm that they won't have to sleep in bunk beds. Teti reveals that a special 'VIP Suite' will also be available to contestants 'on certain occasions,' should they want to get some 'alone' time with a potential love interest. 'The VIP suite is a two-story private getaway with an amazing setup that exudes Paradise,' he says. 'It's got a private pool on the top floor and a jacuzzi on the second floor with a full-on kitchen. It's got huge balconies and elite views.' In other words, rose lovers, imagine the 'boom-boom room' of old, but a lot nicer. During the day, contestants can hit the beach — as you'll see below, the daybeds have been replaced by more civilized couches and chaise lounges — or visit one of two bars. Paradise bartender Wells Adams will be back offering mixed drinks and advice, while former Bachelorette Hannah Brown will be on hand 'handing out champagne before the rose ceremonies, checking in with people, seeing how they're doing,' explains Teti. So far, six contestants have been announced: Kat Izzo, from Zach's season of The Bachelor; Zoe McGrady, from Grant's season of The Bachelor; Hakeem Moulton and Jonathon Johnson, from Jenn's season of The Bachelorette; Leslie Fihma from The Golden Bachelor; and Gary Levingston from The Golden Bachelorette. "Everything about the style of the show, we're trying to elevate," continues Teti. "From new cameras and lenses to frame rates to the way it's shot — we're trying to implement an upgraded, sexy style across the board." Upgraded, sexy, and comfortable, that is. With men and women from The Golden Bachelor and Golden Bachelorette on hand this season, producers are creating an environment where the seniors can stay cool and sunstroke-free while looking for a love connection. "We're going to make sure that they have their perfect Paradise to keep them rested and hydrated," says Teti. "There's plenty of shade and comfortable water temperatures to be had." Teti is staying tight-lipped about how the Golden cast members will be integrated into Paradise. Still, when asked if producers would allow a love connection between a Golden single and a younger contestant, the showrunner doesn't shut it down. "I would say that this season is designed to encourage [people] to stay within their lanes," he notes. "But yes, anything can happen in Paradise." Bachelor in Paradise season 10 premieres Monday, July 7, on ABC. Read the original article on Entertainment Weekly

James Gunn Teases 'Superman' Cameo in 'Peacemaker'

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors "Superman" is on its way and with it comes the introduction of the DCU. A month after "Superman" premieres, fans will be able to finally watch the second season of the hit series "Peacemaker". If you're worried there won't be that many connections between the two projects, some words from DC Studios co-chief James Gunn should quell those concerns. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Gunn made it clear the connections are there, including a hint that one of the major characters from "Superman" will make an appearance... maybe the Man of Steel himself? Read More: Marvel Star Says He's Done With The MCU "We see a lot of different characters from 'Superman' in the [season], [including] Isabela and Nathan and Sean, and then we see a bunch of other characters later on in the season from other parts of the DCU and from 'Superman'," Gunn told EW. "There might even be one really, really, really big cameo near the end of the show." John Cena as Peacemaker in "Peacemaker" Episode 7, which landed on HBO Max on Thursday, February 10. John Cena as Peacemaker in "Peacemaker" Episode 7, which landed on HBO Max on Thursday, February 10. Katie Yu/HBO Max We already knew Frank Grillo would be appearing in both "Superman" and "Peacemaker" as the new head of A.R.G.U.S., Rick Flag Sr. And if you've had the chance to see the first full trailer for "Peacemaker" then you've seen Peacemaker's disastrous interview with Maxwell Lord, Hawkgirl, and Guy Gardner. But from what Gunn says, it seems like we'll be getting even more "Superman" characters in the season, and it's tempting to speculate about the "really, really, really big cameo." If David Corenswet's Superman does show up at the end of "Peacemaker" Season 2, it might not be that different from the end of the very first season. The inaugural season ends with Peacemaker and his allies saving the world and the Justice League showing up afterwards. While Superman and Wonder Woman are both kept shrouded, John Cena's antihero actually does interact a bit with Jason Momoa's Aquaman and Ezra Miller's The Flash. Cameos won't be the only connections between "Superman" and "Peacemaker" either. Gunn told EW, "You've seen what we call the QUC, the Quantum Unfolding Chamber, in the first season of Peacemaker, and we see more about that technology in Superman. The QUC is the center of the story in Peacemaker season 2." "Peacemaker" Season 2 premieres on HBO Max on August 21. 'Criminal Minds'' A.J. Cook on Will's death and that brief but 'impactful' Matthew Gray Gubler reunion: 'It was a fine line'

JJ (A.J. Cook) and the rest of the BAU gather for Will's funeral in the latest episode of Criminal Minds: Evolution. The episode also features the return of fan-favorite Spencer Reid, played by Matthew Gray Gubler. Cook speaks to EW about her longtime TV husband's big death, the reunion between JJ and Reid, that slap from the late Linda Lavin, and hard to say goodbye. In the newest episode of Criminal Minds: Evolution, a grieving JJ (A.J. Cook) grapples with the funeral of her longtime husband Will (Josh Stewart), a staple since season 2 of the original CBS drama. The detective and father of her two boys (played by Cook's sons Mekhai and Phoenix) suffered an aneurysm after a thyroid artery rupture following a health scare. Will's kitchen collapse, it turns out, was filmed several seasons ago, long before Stewart's decision to exit the show. 'We pulled it because it felt so wrong,' Cook tells Entertainment Weekly of the scene. 'We didn't want to put Will in that position.' But in the wake of Stewart's surprise departure, showrunner Erica Messer salvaged the scene for Thursday's emotional sendoff. 'We remembered, 'Oh my gosh, we have this footage that we never used because we did not want to use it.'' Though Stewart's exit took the crew by surprise, there's nothing but love there. 'I truly have such admiration and respect for Josh,' Cook says. 'We've known each other forever. We've done movies together. He and my husband are friends. He is so missed. But again, the show has to go on. We just had to do it.' Also in the episode: Matthew Gray Gubler's grand — albeit brief — return as Spencer Reid. Cook talks about calling up her old pal to ask him to return, the 'fine line' of reuniting JJ and Reid, getting slapped by the late Linda Lavin, and more. ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: What was your initial reaction when you found out about Will's fate? A.J. COOK: It took all of us by surprise when we found out that he wasn't going to be coming back. It took a while for us to process that and to figure out what was next. I think if we were still on CBS with our original format, we wouldn't have taken this route because we've gone seasons without seeing him. It was more procedural back then. But with this new format, a huge part of the show is the personal lives of these characters that we love so much. After much deliberation, we do what we always do on this show: we write to life. You don't get to choose when someone dies. Life happens and it blindsides you. And I think that's why this hurts so badly. We were all so against it, but we didn't have a say. So how do we move forward without feeling like we are in a prison of how we can write for JJ? We wanted this family safe and protected so badly that when we originally wrote in that cancer storyline, we hated it so much ... believe me, if we had Josh coming back, we wouldn't have shot such a short little thing like that. We would've milked it. Not only does the late and great Linda Lavin appear as Will's grieving mother, but she slaps you squarely across the face. What was it like sparring with her? And were those slaps real? What an honor to be slapped by Linda Lavin. I had to swear at that woman, OK? Twice! She is so full of life and giving as an actress. And case in point — one second you're doing a scene with a person, the next you find out that they've passed away. You'd do anything to go back in time to make it not so. But she was such a force. It's one of the great honors of my life that I got to act with her before she passed. There was such an ease between the two of us. We were on the same wavelength as far as how we approach scenes. She did not slap me. We just made it look real good. Matthew Gray Gubler makes his long-awaited return. What was the atmosphere like on set that day? It felt like a homecoming. It was really wonderful. I was so happy that he came back to do this with us. When we were in the conception of this episode, Erica and I kept going back to the idea of Spence having to be there. It would feel like a huge piece of the puzzle is missing if he couldn't be there. I called him up and I was like, 'Hey, bud, what are you doing? Do you want to come do this?' And being the gracious human that he is, he agreed. When I told him what was happening [with] Will, he was like, "Are you kidding me? I will absolutely be there." It was a short appearance, but so impactful. It meant the world to me and to our cast and I know it meant a lot to him, too. I did want to touch on that. I already know some folks will be unhappy with the minimal screen time between JJ and Reid. What are your thoughts on people still riding that ship so many years later? You've spoken about feeling weird about that because they're besties. That's what I was going to say. And having him come back at her husband's funeral where these characters have said that they love each other? It was a fine line. We did not want to give off that vibe at all. We wanted it to be like, this is your best friend showing up for you in your time of need. So that's why it was a sensitive thing. It was like, do we hug? Do we not hug? What are the people going to think? It's so polarized when it comes to [the JJ and Reid shippers]. Everyone is allowed to have a fantasy and think what they want. We were very careful about that. And Erica did let the public know that yes, he's coming back, but I think her quote was, "He's a small part in a really big episode," which is true. But you can't please everybody. We do our best. A lot of folks don't realize that your sons play your TV sons. This was a very heavy episode. What kind of conversations did you have prior to filming? Was it difficult to shoot? This was a huge part of the decision making in all of this, too. My boys are highly intelligent, very emotionally stable, well-grounded humans who grew up on this set. They know it's acting. But I can see how those lines would look blurry to the outsider looking in. What people don't see is that when they call 'cut,' Matthew Gray Gubler is flipping my youngest son around his head. It was so joyful. It was such a juxtaposition. We were all celebrating being together and having fun. Also, as a mother, I'm not opposed to children feeling big emotions. They should. You can't protect your child from big emotions and the what-ifs of life. I think that's a disservice to them in a way. My kids, they get it. We had some of the most beautiful memories I'll have in my lifetime [during] that two week stretch of shooting that episode. There was so much joy involved in making this episode even though it came across as so sad. But they know Josh really well, and my husband is friends with Josh. But yeah, it was absolutely something that I had to think about and talked to the kids about. And they were like, 'Mom, are you serious? We're good.'What will the rest of JJ's arc look like this season as she navigates this grief? It's going to be messy. Grief is not pretty. There's so many layers to grief and we're going to touch on a lot of them. And I will say that she will find healing and comfort in the most unexpected places with the most unexpected people. How's that for a carrot dangling? Or a Cheeto dangling. A Cheeto, yeah. This interview has been edited for length and clarity. New episodes of Criminal Minds: Evolution drop Thursdays on Paramount+.
