B.C. mother ordered to pay over $4K for son's dirt bike thefts, tribunal finds

A mother has been ordered to fork out for her child's wrongdoing after a B.C. Civil Resolution Tribunal determined her to be responsible for her son's involvement in the theft and subsequent damage of three dirt bikes. A decision on the dispute posted July 10 outlines how three Honda dirt bikes belonging to the applicant, referred to as Mr. S, were 'intentionally taken and damaged' in September 2023. The bikes were later found at the home of the mother of one minor, referred to as B, and the home of his friend, EW, after the two had taken them in the night and removed their parts, the decision read. In B.C., a minor is defined as anyone under the age of 19. The tribunal member was tasked with determining whether B or his mother was financially responsible for the damage caused after the mother, named Ms. R, argued she had no financial responsibility for her child's actions. Tribunal member Alissa Reynolds referred to The Parental Liability Act, particularly section 3, which says that if a child intentionally takes, damages, or destroys another person's property their parent is liable for the loss of or damage to the property. Reynolds said Ms. R had a possible defence, however, if she could prove that she both 'exercised reasonable supervision' over her son at the time of the incident, and 'made reasonable efforts to prevent or discourage B's conduct.' Ultimately the defence collapsed after Reynolds noted how B had been 'behaving inappropriately' for several months before the bikes were taken, and that Ms. R hadn't been surprised by the latest actions of her son. Reynolds said Ms. R was unable to provide evidence 'about her house rules, whether B has a curfew, or steps she takes to ensure he is home during the night,' which implied she had not been carrying out a reasonable level of supervision when her son and his friend stole the bikes around 2 or 3 a.m. that morning. The mother also 'did not give any evidence of steps that she took to improve her parenting skills before this incident,' the decision read. Based on those factors, Reynolds found that Ms. R had not established she was reasonably supervising her son on the night of the incident, or 'that she made reasonable efforts to prevent or discourage' his conduct. 'I find that Ms. R is liable for B's actions in damaging the dirt bikes,' she said Ms. R and her son were ordered to pay a total of $4,106.63, in damages within 30 days of the decision being made.

Big Brother 27 Premiere: Vince Panaro named first HOH, mastermind twist threatens early eviction, return of Rachel Reilly

Big Brother 27 kicked off with the new 'Mystery of Summer' twist, where host Julie Chen Moonves was kidnapped by Mastermind, who also hid the HOH relic. In the first challenge, houseguests were split into two groups; one was sent to rescue Julie, the other to track down the relic. Zach Cornell found Julie and bagged $10,000. Jimmy Heagerty cracked the relic hunt and earned the power to decide who'd battle it out for the first Head of Household. Jimmy nominated himself, Vince Panaro, Adrian Rocha, and Ashley Hollis for the next challenge, which was a test of balancing weights on bars. Vince completed the challenge in one go and walked away with the win, becoming the first HOH of the season. But his power came with a major twist. Julie announced that the AI arena from earlier seasons is back, but now it's renamed BB Blockbuster. Now, Vince has to name three nominees, and those three will battle for safety before the eviction. Also read: Big Brother 2025 full contestant list: Date, time, episode schedule, and where to watch the 27th season of the reality series Meanwhile, the return of Rachel Reilly, Big Brother 13 winner, was the big mystery producers had been teasing. But she's not the 17th contestant. Not yet. One among the original 16 houseguests is the Mastermind's accomplice. If the others figure out who it is, that person gets instantly nominated. But if no one unmasks them, they stay and officially become the 17th houseguest. Vince might think he's calling the shots as HOH, deciding who stays and who walks. But if someone outs the Accomplice before eviction night, his nominees get spared (unless, of course, one of them is the Accomplice). That could blow up Vince's game early. Two of the three nominees are guaranteed to stay, and if someone plays the Power of Veto card, Vince will end up making more enemies. In his pre-show interviews, Vince said he'd rather play honest than cutthroat, but also hinted he'd change if the house vibe demands it. He walked in unemployed, eye on that $750K, and looks ready to play hard. She's reality TV royalty, having done projects like The Amazing Race to Worst Cooks in America. She is tough and knows the game inside out. Fans think Vince should play smart as an ally and not target her, because if he comes at her and she survives, he's got a big enemy with serious game. Speaking about Rachel's return, Julie, in an interview with EW, said, 'I loved the Rachel chant when they saw her, but these houseguests are shrewd. They know this is not good for their game. She defied all odds with the whole house against her, no allies left, and won the game. She is a BB legend!'

Trump White House lashes out at 'The View' cohost Ana Navarro over Alligator Alcatraz comments: 'Can't get any dumber'

A White House spokesperson has reacted to Ana Navarro's criticism of Alligator Alcatraz. The incendiary statement comes after the View cohost called out people treating the detention center as a tourist destination. "No one who has any interest in facts or logic should pay attention to whatever Ana is spewing on TV," the statement Donald Trump's White House is speaking out against The View cohost Ana Navarro after the Republican commentator chastised people who have been treating Florida's Alligator Alcatraz migrant detention center as a tourist destination. On Friday's episode of The View, Navarro labeled those who sensationalize visits to the controversial locale — which has drawn intense criticism along with nationwide ICE raids — as "racist" and "horrible human" beings. Reached for comment by Entertainment Weekly, White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson issued a statement blasting Navarro's remarks. "Every time you think Ana Navaro [sic] can't get any dumber, she proves you wrong," the statement says. Jackson continues, "The real 'horrible human beings' are the violent illegal criminals being held at Alligator Alcatraz, including murderers like an illegal alien who slit the throat of an elderly woman in Florida and set her house on fire." (The statement also linked to a social media post outlining the alleged crimes, though EW could not immediately verify the validity of the allegations.) "No one who has any interest in facts or logic should pay attention to whatever Ana is spewing on TV because it's probably wrong or stupid or, most likely, both," Jackson's statement concludes. EW has reached out to a representative for Navarro at The View for a response. During an impassioned criticism of Alligator Alcatraz, Navarro told the View audience Friday morning that she believes the detention facility to be part of a bigger plot to whitewash the country. "If you're out there in the Everglades, driving out there and getting out of your car to take a picture as if it were the Eiffel Tower, you are a racist and you are a horrible human being," she said, while the studio audience applauded. "This is not just about undocumented immigrants," Navarro continued. "When you're taking away temporary protective status, when you're putting legal, permanent residents, detaining and deporting them, when you're threatening U.S. citizens that you don't like that you're going to take away their citizenship — naturalized ones — when you're talking about birthright citizenship and taking that away, this is not about going after the criminals and the gang members, this is about making America white again and otherizing everybody who's an immigrant." Navarro and her fellow panelists have long spoken out against Trump and his administration, though current View cohost Alyssa Farah Griffin previously worked under Trump during his first presidential term. The president has taken aim at The View cohosts in the past, even going as far as to call moderator Whoopi Goldberg's comedy "filthy dirty" and the rest of the panelists "really dumb people" in the run-up to the 2024 eventually resigned from Trump's first administration and subsequently spoke out against him, and even spoke to prosecutors in 2023 in a massive probe into the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. PT on ABC. Read the original article on Entertainment Weekly

Liam Neeson recalls his embarrassing audition to play the giant Fezzik in 'The Princess Bride'

Liam Neeson is known around the world for his starring role in the Taken franchise, and for playing Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn in Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace, and as Bruce Wayne's mentor/nemesis, Ra's al Ghul/Henri Ducard, in Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins and The Dark Knight Rises, and for his Oscar-nominated performance in Steven Spielberg's Schindler's List. But one movie you won't see him in: The Princess Bride. It's not for lack of trying, though. In Entertainment Weekly's Fact Checked video series (above), the Irish actor confirms that his audition for the 1987 classic is his most embarrassing acting moment. Neeson was auditioning to play the giant, Fezzik. Neeson, who stands 6-foot-4, says director Rob Reiner had a "look of disgust" on his face when he realized the actor's height. "It's very true," he tells his Naked Gun costar, Pamela Anderson, in the video. "He turned to the casting director and said, 'I asked for a giant.'... No 'Hello,' 'Thanks for coming.' Nothing like that." As disappointed as Neeson may have been, he says he was actually more embarrassed for the casting director. "I felt bad for her," he adds. "I really did." Reiner did end up getting his giant, in the form of 7-foot-4 professional wrestler André the Neeson broke into acting, racking up a résumé with more than 100 credits, he had some odd jobs, including being a forklift driver for beer company Guinness, "The best job I ever had, including acting," he says. "I'm semi-joking, but yeah, I loved the job. Driving, being in control of all these pallets of Guinness and stacking them, loading [semis] that were going out to various pubs in Northern Ireland." Neeson and Anderson, who are featured on EW's latest cover for their reboot of The Naked Gun (in theaters Aug. 1), check facts about their lives — or dispel rumors — in the video above: Anderson confirms whether she has run the New York City Marathon and details how she was discovered at a Vancouver football game, and Neeson also reveals how his Taken movies impacted international travel. Meet the cast of 'Big Brother 27'

Welcome, houseguests! That's right, we finally have names and photos for the latest batch of victims willing to lock themselves into a fake house on a studio lot for months on end for our amusement… well, that and a shot at $750,000. Which is to say, meet the cast of Big Brother season 27, everyone! The 16 new players entering the house on the 90-minute July 10 premiere include a professional bull rider, a dungeon master, a college sports podcaster, and an "aura painter." There is also an AI consultant… who probably would have come in handy last season dealing with the artificial intelligence nuisances that were Ainsley and Jankie. But the number of contestants competing for the $750,000 may not stop at 16. CBS has teased that a 'mystery houseguest' will be revealed on premiere night, and host Julie Chen Moonves told Entertainment Weekly that the individual will cause quite a splash. 'When I was told who this person is, I had to expect the unexpected!' Chen Moonves told EW. 'I never expected that person. And I was very excited because, in my opinion, getting that person is epic. And that person is also very polarizing. So there's going to be a strong reaction in both directions for this mystery houseguest.' Does that mean a former Big Brother player will be joining the new crop of contestants? Or perhaps it is a former reality TV contestant from another CBS franchise, like when Survivor star Cirie Fields showed up in the final minutes of the Big Brother 25 premiere in 2023. Or perhaps it is some other controversial figure entirely. But the mystery houseguest will not be all. The new players checking into Hotel Mystère will also be forced to contend with a 'masked visitor' and 'secret accomplice' that Chen Moonves promises will be 'very disruptive.' And the host also revealed in a video released by CBS that the three-nominee structure from last season will indeed be back. "Last year's BB AI Arena was so successful, we're bringing it back," says Chen Moonves in the video. "You'll never know who is going home because the houseguests will have a last minute chance to take themselves off the block with the BB Blockbuster." Check out the names, photos, and bios of the new cast before all hell breaks loose inside the house. And because we know you need more, we've also thrown in an introductory video from the Chenbot featuring the new players talking smack while also busting out some truly awkward chair dancing.
