SWAT team standoff at Houston Burger King ends with burglary suspect still at large
A SWAT team responded to a Burger King in Houston on Monday after a man allegedly barricaded himself inside.
In a July 14 press conference, police said that deputies responded to calls of a burglary inside the Burger King at around 3 a.m. local time. Police said the robbery was discovered by a restaurant employee who had just shown up for work.
When officials arrived at the restaurant, they said they found two men inside and believed that they had broken in through the restaurant's drive-through window.
One man was taken into custody. Police believed that the second man had barricaded himself inside the restaurant's attic, prompting a standoff with SWAT.
"We have heard movement since we've been out here and video footage - that's why we believe he's still inside, bunkered down,' HCSO Major Earl Dean said during the press conference.
Later in the morning, members of the SWAT team entered the restaurant to try to arrest the second suspect but were unable to find him inside. Police said the restaurant would be closed for the rest of the day, while sheriff's deputies monitor the restaurant.
