BANGKOK: The Earthquake Observation Division of the Thai Meteorological Department reported a strong earthquake in Papua New Guinea on Tuesday night (May 20), with no direct impact on Thailand. According to the division, the earthquake occurred at 10:06pm (Thaitime) of Tuesday, with a magnitude of 6.5 and a depth of 10km. The epicentre was at latitude -3.56° and longitude 144.96°, near the North Coast of Papua New Guinea. The quake occurred approximately 5,268 kilometres from Bangkok, and does not directly impact Thailand, the division said. The earthquake occurred at 1:58pm Tuesday (May 20), with a magnitude of 2.1 and a depth of one kilometre. The epicentre was at latitude 19.134° North and longitude 98.6° East. There have been no reports of damage or injuries from the recent quake, the division said. BANGKOK: Nine mild earthquakes, with magnitudes ranging from 1.4 to 3.1, were recorded in Myanmar as well as in northern Thailand from Friday (May 9) night to Saturday morning, according to the Thai Meteorological Department. The Department's Earthquake Observation Division reported that two of the quakes occurred in Thailand. The first quake struck at 7.33pm of Friday in San Sali Subdistrict, Wiang Pa Pao District, Chiang Rai Province, with a magnitude of 1.4 and a depth of 10kms. The epicentre was located at latitude 19.384° North and longitude 99.507° East. The second quake occurred at 9.5pm of Friday in Pong Sa Subdistrict, Muang District, Mae Hong Son Province, with a magnitude of 1.5 and a depth of 3km. The epicentre was at latitude 19.246° North and longitude 98.462° East. As of the time of reporting, there have been no reports of property damage in Thailand, the department said. The epicentre was located at latitude 18.682° North and longitude 100.371° East. The second quake occurred at 4.52am, also in Yap Hua Na Subdistrict, with a magnitude of 1.5 and a depth of 1 kilometre. The epicentre was at latitude 18.679° North and longitude 100.369° East.
