UK police investigating after crops destroyed by quads

Police in the UK are looking to speak to a group of individuals after quad users gained access to a private field, before driving around and destroying crops. The incident occurred in Bassetlaw, Nottinghamshire, in the midlands of England. East Bassetlaw Police, which covers the area where the incident occurred, has released images of persons of interest via social media. The images show quads being driven around a field. In a post on Facebook, police said they wish to speak to a group of individuals after crops were destroyed on a farm. According to police, it was reported that unknown offenders gained access to private farmland at Gamston Road in the town of Bothamsall, before driving round and damaging a large quantity of crops. It is believed the incident happened on Friday, July 25, between 8.30p.m and 11.30p.m. The authorities are asking anyone who might recognise the individuals in the images to come forward with the information. The investigating police officer, Hollie Marsh said: "Damage like this can cause farmers to suffer thousands of pounds worth of loss, and we want the rural community to know that we treat incidents like this very seriously and are determined to catch those responsible." She called on anyone who knows any of the persons in the images, or anyone who appears in the images, to contact police or the crime prevention charity Crimestoppers. Back in Ireland, Gardaí confirmed last week that a number of items stolen from a farmyard in July have been recovered. It is understood that the theft took place on a farmyard in the Ballinamore area of the county, not far from the border with Co. Cavan in the early hours of July 15. The stolen items included a 2016 white Renault Master van, a motorbike, and a quad trailer holding a ride-on powerfloat (for use on fresh concrete). During the incident a concrete drill, a chainsaw, a manual powerfloat, a cement mixer and a power washer were also taken. In a statement, An Garda Síochána told Agriland: "Gardaí in Co. Leitrim continue to investigate the theft of number of items from the yard of a property at Ballinamore between 12:10a.m and 6:20a.m on Tuesday, July 15, 2025. "Following a search, some of the property was recovered," the statement added.
