To really get into the party spirit, Dani decided to change out of her floor-length gown into something more dancefloor ready. In the lead up to the wedding, Danny said: 'I have met every single boyfriend that has walked through my door - and then she brings home the West Ham captain. "I have gone from the lying scum, and I hate them, to a man who I would not mind tonguing myself! A strong man. If he lent in I would put my lips on this geezer. 'He is just, as a father and joking aside, he took her on with a 14 month old son and that says a lot about a man I will tell you. He is amazing. I can't wait to give her away. What a touch. But if he was to make a move on me before… "I think I'm in love with him, slightly. He's an incredible person. I just want someone to love my daughters the way I do. I want them to worship them and look after them. Let me tell you that. I love him.'

Code of Silence review: ITV's new crime drama is a creaky old bus, but Rose Ayling-Ellis will persuade you to get on board

And like BBC's Reunion, this week's new ITV drama Code of Silence (ITV1, Sun/Mon, 9pm) also stars former EastEnder and Strictly champ Rose Ayling-Ellis. It's not her fault that her two starring roles have been scheduled together, but Code of Silence suffers in comparison with the harder-edged Reunion. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad In the new ITV show, Ayling-Ellis's Alison is a young woman in flux – her relationship has broken down, she's living at home with her mum and under threat from a new landlord and she has two dull jobs to help her pay the rent. Rose Ayling-Ellis takes the lead role of Alison, a canteen worker who uses her lip-reading skills to help the police, in the new ITV drama Code of SIlence (Picture: Mammoth Screen/ITV) One of those dull jobs is in a police station canteen, which brings her to the attention of coppers DI James Marsh (Andrew Buchan) and DS Ashleigh Francis (Charlotte Ritchie). They're tracking a gang of robbers planning its next job, and while they can get close enough to the group to get video surveillance, and they can track the text messages of the gang boss's driver, they can't apparently hear what they're saying. So they call upon Alison and her lip-reading skills to gain vital intelligence. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad This is where Code of Silence begins to strain credulity – the fact that they can get so close, find out so much, but basic levels of audio surveillance seem to be beyond them. Charlotte Ritchie stars as DS Ashleigh Francis in the new ITV drama Code of Silence (Picture: Mammoth Screen/ITV) Alison gets deeper into her crime-cracking role, despite the coppers repeatedly telling her to 'leave the detecting to us', and by episode two they are perfectly happy to embed her in the pub the gang uses as its HQ. This despite her lying to them about a burgeoning relationship with a new member of the gang, Liam (Kieron Moore), and nervously hanging about staring at the gang members in efforts to lip-read their nefarious plots. Meantime, the gang members are given codenames straight out of Gladiators – Hulk and Wolf – and seem to enjoy gathering for summit meetings in children's play parks, which would rouse the suspicions of even the most neglectful parent. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad The sub-plot surrounding the new landlord and their plans to redevelop the estate where Alison and her mum live is so hammered home that it must have some sort of relevance later on the series, but you spend the first two episodes wondering where the link is. Rose Ayling-Ellis stars as Alison Brooks in the new ITV drama Code of SIlence (Picture: Mammoth Screen/ITV) Where Code of Silence is largely down to its lead actress. Ayling-Ellis is great at showing how much she's been waiting for the thrill of her new life. After constantly being relegated to dead-end jobs, the stultifying, hard grind of doing so much and finding out it's only just enough to get by, she is clearly intoxicated by the idea that she might finally have found a role of value, which will also see her being valued. 'I don't want to be hearing,' she tells her mum, 'I just want them to be a bit deaf. I'm fed up trying to prove myself.' Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Despite the Keystone Cops vibe of DI Marsh and DS Francis, you buy completely Alison's determination to help, to show that she is more than the labels society has placed upon her. Meanwhile, however, the other characters are little more than cyphers – the villains all glowering looks, lowered eyebrows and raspy voices, newcomer Liam clearly a boy from the wrong side of the tracks in over his head, and the police officers dense and inept. Ultimately, it's Ayling-Ellis who persuades you to get on board this creaky old bus – let's just hope it makes it to the right destination.

Christine Keeler shared a cell with Labour minister's gran after Profumo scandal

Seymour Platt says he is hopefully a Labour government could pave the way for a Royal Pardon that would clear his mum of her 1963 perjury conviction - especially after she shared a cell with a minister's grandmother The defiant son of Profumo scandal icon Christine Keeler has spent nearly 10 years fighting to prove his mother's jail sentence was a desperate bid to discredit her. Seymour Platt now hopes the Labour Party could finally help clear her name – particularly as she shared a cell with Health Minister Wes Streeting's grandmother. Seymour said: 'I try not to be political but I'm bloody delighted that it's a Labour Party and not the Tory Party, to be blunt. I'd love Labour to look at this with fresh eyes and be humane to correct an inhumane decision.' ‌ In 2022 Mr Streeting told how his grandfather William Crowley was an armed robber who was 'in and out of prison' most of his life and had known the Krays. He said Crowley 'took down' his grandmother Elizabeth 'Libby' Crowley, who was jailed for possession of a stolen radio and sent to HMP Holloway. ‌ She shared a cell with Christine and they became friends, sharing the belief they were both victims of the men in their lives. On BBC podcast Political Thinking with Nick Robinson, Mr Streeting branded Libby's conviction a 'real injustice'. He said: 'The tragedy of that makes me really angry, even now.' Referring to his grandmother's friendship with Christine, Mr Streeting added: 'Talk about chalk and cheese, you had this working-class East Ender in my nan Libby and then you had Christine Keeler of high society. But I remember my nan talking about Christine Keeler and feeling very strongly that she had been a victim of injustice and what had happened to her had been wrong. They stayed in contact for many years after she left prison.' Christine was just 21 when she was jailed for perjury in 1963. She had been attacked by stalker Aloysius 'Lucky' Gordon in April that year. But he successfully appealed after it was found she had told jurors two witnesses were not there. Her family argue there was no doubt the assault took place and that Christine lived in fear of Gordon. ‌ She had also allegedly been put under pressure by the witnesses. But they have so far been unable to overturn the conviction. Earlier this year justice watchdogs rejected an application to send her case to the Court of Appeal. The Criminal Cases Review Commission accepted she could not have 'secured a fair trial, particularly in view of the unprecedented level of prejudicial media coverage of her at the time'. But it said: 'In quashing the perjury conviction, the Court of Appeal would have a very limited ability to correct the public record in relation to [her] part in the Profumo affair.' Her family's last hope is to ask the Justice Secretary to recommend a pardon under the royal prerogative of mercy, which is only used in incredibly rare circumstances. Now Seymour has lodged an application for a Royal Pardon, which must be signed off by the King. An application can be considered when all other judicial routes have been exhausted, or new evidence demonstrates no offence was committed or the defendant did not commit the offence. Most importantly, the pardon can be handed down if 'the person was morally and technically innocent of the crime'. ‌ Solicitor James Harbridge, who helped compile the application, said: 'It's truly amazing this whole chain of events remain ongoing, even though Lucky Gordon admitted at his own trial that he slapped Christine. The jury took less than 15 minutes to convict him in June 1963, but here we are in May 2025, still seeking justice for the victim and her family.' Dr Felicity Gerry, a human rights barrister who is supporting Seymour, said: 'Every woman you speak to says her conviction was a terrible miscarriage of justice. She was exploited and sent to prison. She was 'slut-shamed' her whole life for the Profumo affair.' The Ministry of Justice said: 'We take miscarriages of justice very seriously and the Justice Secretary considers all applications for pardons.'
