Youth Horizons provides safe homes for Kansas foster youth

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – There are over 1,000 kids in the Kansas foster care system. For decades, Youth Horizons has offered up homes to help them heal. 'They're very scared at first. They don't know who to trust,' said Jennifer Isaacs, director at Wren House at Youth Horizons. Wren House is one of two residential programs offered by Youth Horizons for children in the foster care system. The other is the Kinloch Price Boys Ranch. 'It's definitely not your typical group home,' Isaacs said. Wichita nonprofit helps people get affordable medical equipment The homes have 24/7 support staff. 'Children who have been abandoned, who have been rejected, and who have suffered a multiplicity of trauma, maltreatment and abuse,' said Robert Gardner, CEO and president of Youth Horizons. Together, they tackle tough moments to build trust. 'Our goal is to share this, to share Christ with them, to show them the love of Christ, in hopes that they will find Christ,' Gardner said. Inside the homes, there is a family atmosphere. 'They get together, they sit down and eat, they have good, healthy conversations,' Isaacs said. The girls gain new responsibilities to help them grow. 'We get to know them, and we find out what life skills they want to work on, what life skills they need to work on, and we put together a plan for them,' Isaacs added. Planting seeds for success. 'We're not only changing their moment right now, I believe that it's changing their future,' Isaacs said. The Active Age delivers free copies to thousands of seniors Youth Horizons has helped over 100 teens, and it has more land to continue growing. Support the organizations at their Easter Sun Run on Saturday. There is a 10K and 2-mile run/walk. All the registration fees go back to its programs.
