Sundowns walk away with bragging rights

SEDIBENG.- Local soccer fans packed the Isak Steyl Stadium in Vanderbijlpark to capacity on Sunday. They went home entertained after Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates clashed in the DSTV Diski Challenge match. Sundowns walked away with bragging rights when they beat Pirates babies 1-0. The score could have been worse if Sundowns had converted their chances in the opening minutes of the game. They were all over the home team, dominating the ball possession. The fans enjoyed every moment of this action-packed encounter. Even though Sundowns looked superior, Pirates regrouped as they also put together some exciting touches, much applauded by their supporters. It was a game of chess with both sides very cautious when in attack or ball possession; however, the game went to break with the score still 0-0. Sundowns came into the second half more purposefully, forcing Pirates to defend with their backs against the wall. The 1-0 final score was not a true reflection of the game. Both sides created clear scoring opportunities, but their forwards were wasteful in front of the goals. Meanwhile, Sekhukhune United and Cape Town City shared the soil when these two sides played to a goalless draw at the same venue on Sunday. Apart from these DDC games, there was action galore at different venues in the Vaal over the long weekend. The UK Easter Tournament was one of the tournaments that attracted a large crowd to the UK's dusty soccer ground in Zone 7. There was also an Easter Tournament at the Pepsi ground in Sharpeville. Both tournaments came to an end on Monday. At Caxton, we employ humans to generate daily fresh news, not AI intervention. Happy reading!
